Shane's World 20: Ragin' Rapids Review

Initial Expectations: I saw some of one of the early Shane’s World features and have heard great things about the rest of the series. I’m expecting some great gonzo.

Initial Reaction: It’s a lot of fun with some great sex.

Who Should Watch It : Gonzo fans, couples, people looking for something different than the average porno.

Who Should Avoid It: Fans of extreme silicone and anybody who likes their sex to appear staged.

Audio /Video Quality: Both are amazing, especially when you consider some of the conditions they were filmed under. The audio is very clear and well balanced with hardly any outdoor obtrusive noises (such as wind). The video is also very clear with almost no signs of pixelation.

Music: There’s a little music but none during the sex scenes.

The Feature: For anybody who hasn’t seen a Shane’s World feature yet, imagine MTV’s Real World done as a porno. Yeah, I know. That’s kind of the general idea behind almost the entire gonzo genre but none of them do it nearly as good as Shane’s World has for over twenty volumes. Sadly, Shane isn’t present here. She is listed as the director, but we never hear her and the only time we see her is in the opening montage.

Shane’s World starts with a cast that most people already recognize. At least half of the cast are recognizable porn stars. They’re put into different situations such as cross country trips and exciting sports, in this case river rafting, and in between, they fuck. They’re people you’ve seen fuck many times before and they don’t pretend to be other than porn stars having fun and a little down time. And up time. And down time. And up time. And, well, you can see where this is going. In the case of Shane’s World 20: Ragin’ Rapids it might be better to compare it to Survivor instead of The Real World since at some point, almost everybody gets off.

Shane’s World 20: Ragin’ Rapids gets your attention right away with a giant group orgy. It’s the perfect way to get to know everybody. The orgy takes place in Team Shane’s World’s hotel room and it appears that quite a bit of alcohol has already disappeared. Most of the action takes place between two couples with a little intermingling and the others helping both sides. The first couple focused on is Billy Glide and Blair Segal. Blair’s a cute little redhead and almost everybody has seen Billy. He really seems cocky which didn’t help me in liking him, but he did a pretty good job. When it appears Blair has given all she’s got, things switch over to real life married couple Cheyne Collins and Chenin Blanc. As it should be, the chemistry between Chennin and Cheyne is great. You can tell they’re having a lot of fun and really enjoy fucking in front of everybody having the others join in some. At the end, things cut back to Billy and a group effort to get him to cum. It’s a fun opening and a great orgy scene. This might be the best chemistry I’ve seen in an overall group for an orgy and it really gave me a great feeling for what was yet to cum.

The next day everybody gets ready to head to the river as they fight against the hangovers from the night before. There isn’t much sex for a while, but there is a few peeps for those of you who are watching this for the nekkid people. Instead, the next bit shows the crew as they get ready to go rafting, as they go rafting, and as they set up camp. It lets you see them as people, which I think is one of the things that really makes the Shane’s World series so strong.

That night, Cheyne and Blair break off to get a little action by lantern light. I hadn’t seen much of Blair before this, but I’m really starting to like her. She puts her all and then some into this scene just as she did in the orgy scene with Billy. It’s a very comfortable scene and one that anybody who’s went camping can relate to on a very primal level. It helps a little more when the people are as comfortable together as Blair and Cheyne are and the scene is this hot. At the end, Cheyne blows his load on Blair’s real tits.

Afterwards, Shelby notices that Billy’s a little lonely so she gives him a little head. Before long, Salena joins in. When Salena starts fucking Billy, Shelby goes behind him to play with his nipples a little bit before Billy and Salena head back to Salena’s tent. Luckily the camera follows along. The camera angle is pretty limited here since Billy and Salena are in her tent, but it still works very well. I really wish that Shelby would have been along for the ride, but Billy and Salena really work well together. Billy finishes it off by cumming on her ass.

The next morning while everybody’s getting ready, Cheyne passes on breakfast to have a little bit of Chennin on the raft instead. It’s a fun scene as Cheyne uses Chennin’s braids as reigns while she’s going down on him, which she doesn’t really care for. I always enjoy watching Chennin and Cheyne work together. They just seem so natural together. At the end of the scene, Cheyne makes his deposit on Chennin’s back.

After heading down river, Rayna feels the need to let go with a little squirt. I really don’t think she meant for Billy to go along to help her, and I really don’t think she meant they should stop for her to squirt from Billy fucking her. Rayna squirts several times and really surprises everybody since she was the shy, quiet one so far on this trip. Billy and Rayna fuck by a small waterfall that makes it a more romantic scene. Of course, since she squirts, Rayna is really into it. Afterwards she cleans herself up with a little waterfall action. Unfortunately, she didn’t quite realize the strength of the waterfall or how slippery the rocks can get in a waterfall as she takes a little more of a shower than what she planned on. Afterwards the crew continues on it’s way home with a little more excitement, but none of it’s sexual.

Shane’s World 20: Ragin’ Rapids is a great movie for anybody looking for something a little different, and especially couples. The sex is all very couples friendly (well, maybe with the exception of the orgy) but it isn’t by any means boring. There isn’t any anal sex and barely any lesbian interaction. What lesbian interaction there is isn’t caught too much. The cast comes off as being real people and it makes for a nice change from the people you see portrayed in porn. The only warning I have about Shane’s World 20: Ragin’ Rapids is that your credit card better be ready to get more of them!

Extras: OGV has really packed Shane’s World 20: Ragin’ Rapids full of extras. Of course, some of the usual extras are here. There’s trailers for Shane’s World 25 and Shane’s Slumber Party 13 as well as Pick-up Lines 1-11, 12-24, Peeping Tom, and Rodney Moore movies. There’s also a link to shanesworld.com.

The photo gallery lasts about two minutes with five seconds per photo. The pictures are all good quality, framed, and full screen. There’s also a nice song going in the background with a little something that’s almost unheard of in adult films - lyrics. It’s a nice added touch that sets the photo gallery apart from the rest and makes it feel a little nicer than most.

The bios section has the same feeling of extra care that the photo gallery does. Rather than having a list of the cast (and normally only some of the cast), this one shows a group picture and you select the cast member off of the photo. There isn’t much information for each person, but you do get their birthday, zodiac sign (as if you can’t figure that out from the birthday), what Shane films they’re in, any other OGV films they’re in, and a fun fact which is often quite interesting. In another of my favorite things on a bio screen, there’s a link to one of the person’s scenes so you can jump right to some of their action.

Shane’s World 20: Ragin’ Rapids includes two commentaries. The first is with the producer who talks about how some of the people were chosen and the locations. She also talks some about the website. She gives quite a bit of information about the river ride such as not wanting to tell the guides too much and how well the guides treated them. There’s a lot of dead air in this commentary and I think it would have worked a lot better if it was combined with the second commentary, which features Billy Glide and Salena Del Ray. Billy and Salena talk mostly about the sex scenes, many of which feature Billy. If neither of them are in it they make fun a little about the scene. It’s a fun commentary and doesn’t have a lot of dead air. Billy and Salena interact very well in it which also helps out a lot.

The music video lasts about two and a half minutes and uses the Shane’s World theme song. It’s a nice addition to the movie as it has a lot of clips from this movie as well as several out takes. I actually wish it had lasted a little longer.

The six minute interview is with real life couple Cheyne and Chennin as they talk about a lot of the cast. The only person left out, besides them, is Shelby, which is too bad. It’s very real and there’s some funny short stories that you wouldn’t know otherwise. Cheyne also talks about watching his wife have sex on film and they both talk about what they’ve learned in the adult film industry that applies to real life and the importance of sex in relationships.

The bonus scene with Salena Del Ray lasts eight minutes. She’s looking extremely hot in a white cowboy hat which thankfully stays on the entire scene. She starts out talking about what she wants for Christmas and then starts to lick her tits and finger her ass. You can tell she’s having a lot of fun doing the tease as she starts spanking her ass and then fucking her pussy with a dildo. Finally, she compares having sex with running the rapids in the movie. It’s a fun little bonus that I just might have to watch again.

The Behind the Scenes featurette lasts about eight and a quarter minutes and has about the same quality as the movie. It covers the entire movie from the hotel scene to the final rapids and you get a lot of additional footage that wasn’t in the actual movie. There’s a few quotes from Salena and Blair as well as Billy talking about the women whining about the bugs. You also get a lot more of Shelby, which I really like as I wanted to see more of her in the movie. It’s a very nice addition to the movie and will probably be watched again a lot more than other behind the scenes featurettes.

Finally, there’s The Happy Prostitute . I have to admit that when I first checked out this DVD I watched the first three seconds, screamed, and shut it off. As a warning, I’m guessing the so-called Happy Prostitute is around seventy years old and she’s hanging out. I’m sure whoever made this clip is one twisted bastard who really enjoys the thought of most people’s initial reaction. I know I would be if I made it. She goes over many of the new uses she’s found for male sperm. Make sure you watch this! It’s hilarious!!!

Overall: Currently, Shane’s World 20: Ragin’ Rapids can be found online for between $17 (on sale) and $28 with most stores offering it for around $23. If you’re looking for great gonzo or just something different, make sure to pick this one up. It’s a lot of fun with great extras and an amazing transfer.

Note to OGV: I really hope to see more Shane’s World episodes make their way onto DVD. If they all get the great treatment you’ve given this episode you’ve got one heck of a winning series.
