Audio /Video Quality: As usual with compilations, the audio and video vary from scene to scene. Thankfully, they’re both pretty consistent here. The audio is almost always clear and well balanced. There is a little dubbing, but it’s normally where it has to be due to the video being slowed slightly for a romantic affect. The video has a little grain in places, but is normally very clear. There’s a bit of shadow and over-lighting in a couple places, but it never takes over the scene.

Music: Since it’s a compilation it’s no surprise that there’s a wide variety of styles and balances. For the most part, they’re very well balanced and the music fits the scenes nicely. It’s very rare for the music to be the only audio, but there are a couple spots where it does and works well.

Menus: The main menu has a nice bit of animation and is well organized. The chapter menu is excellent. Each scene is listed by the stars in it, both male and female, and the movie where it comes from. This is one of those little details that are why I have thought so highly of many of Adam & Eve’s compilations.

The Feature: Shades of Sex collects many of Adam & Eve’s inter-racial scenes. The scenes cut from one to the next without interrupting the action for a cast listing or to identify the movie. This isn’t a big deal since the chapter menu does such an excellent job of it.

Joel Lawrence and Nefertiti start things out in a scene from Sex Across America Third Stop: San Francisco in Nefertiti’s loft. It’s a really different group scene, which isn’t such a good thing here. The entire scene has the foursome broke into two couples which never interact with the exception of switching partners. It’s nice to see everybody get busy with everybody, but with the way it’s handled, it doesn’t seem like everybody really gets along. There are barely even any looks between the two couples. The only time everybody gets together is when the three girls work Herschel to a pretty good pop, which goes onto Dee’s face, but mostly into the air. I’d barely even call this scene warm, since it barely even seemed to have any chemistry. I really like Elizabeth X, and hope to see much more of her, but this scene was a real disappointment. There is some very nice direction here, and it has a nice artistic feel, but I still don’t really like the end result.

Extras: A cast listing lets you know everybody that appears in the feature. There’s also some website information. The main extra, however, is the three bonus scenes, none of which have any inter-racial sex.

You always want to see more of at least a couple of the couples and don’t get to because you have to catch some of the other couples as well. This one is balanced pretty well, but I would have liked to have seen more of Anastasia and Heaven.

The second bonus scene comes from A Midsummer Night’s Cream and features the amazing Nina Hartley and Evan Stone. Overall: Currently, Shades of Sex can be found online for between $15 and $22 with a nice spread between stores. If you’re a fan of romantic inter-racial sex, this is a great buy at the low end. There are a few scenes that I was a little disappointed in, but overall it’s very good and well organized. The transfers are very good, and there’s a few extra scenes in the extras.

Note to Adam & Eve: It’s great to see that somebody knows how to make a decent compilation. Your listing the stars and the features the scenes come from in the chapter menu show a lot of care and help this one to be a winner rather than just the standard collection of unrelated scenes that nobody knows the origin of. It might be nice in the future to also include trailers for the movies in the compilation to further create interest in the titles included in the compilation.
