Plot Synopsis: If you don't know who Seymore Butts is, he's probably the most famous gonzo producers ever.
He shoots 95% of his video from a first-person perspective, and he does it quite well (no "Blair Witch Project" shaking camera shots and no unwatchable camera angles).
Over the years, Seymore has had three on-camera significant others: Shane, Taylor Hayes, and Alisha Klass. Shane was the first, and arguably the best--I think any guy would be in heaven to have such a sex-positive girlfriend! She and Seymore had a falling out a few years back, and since then she's become a successful producer with a few of her own video series. This movie is the first time that Seymore and Shane met in person (she was a fan who sent him videotapes and letters).
As is typical with Seymore's tape, it begins with a clip from the previous video in the series: Seymore gets an overnight letter with a tape from Shane in which she masturbates with a dildo and vibrator. Seymore ends up jerking off, and after they both cum, she tells him that she's surprising him by coming to LA to visit him. Realizing that the flight is due to arrive in 10 minutes, he rushes out, bringing us to the beginning of In Paradise.
Seymore meets Shane at LAX (she's wearing only a trenchcoat with nothing underneath). They decide on the drive back to go to Puerto Vallarta and hop on a plane for the getaway. There's quite a bit of "home video vacation footage" showing the scenery, both of them parasailing, etc. (in fact about half of the entire movie is non-sex, but it adds a lot of realism to the situation).
After they finally have sex on the balcony of their hotel room, they go to a strip club where they meet an American dancer (Nina), who they convince to go back to their hotel. There are two threesomes and then the trip comes to an end.
Upon returning to LA, Seymore's friend, Ron Jeremy (yeah, I know, I know) brings over Devon Shire (the same porn star that was involved with O.J. Simpson). She plays the part of a innocent young woman (though she had been in the business for a while when this was shot) who wanted to be in one of Seymore's videos. Seymore obliges and provides a pretty good record of the festivities for us. Finally, old Ronny takes his turn and ends up taking her in the ass (ouch!). A pretty hot set of scenes!
The video closes with a forgettable tryout by Paree, who I swore was going to pull a "Crying Game" thing on Seymore. Didn't seem to bother Seymore as he got Yet Another Blowjob, and that's where it ends.
Notable Performances: Shane kicks ass! She's not the most beautiful girl out there, but she's absolutely fearless and completely enthusiastic when it comes to sex. She'll go out of her way to do it with anyone at the drop of a hat with a smile on her face. Wow!
DVD Notes: This is one of Seymore's earlier films, so his video camera wasn't the greatest, and it shows on DVD. If this were a mainstream DVD, people would be going nuts proclaiming that it was the worst video transfer ever. I won't go that far, but there's quite a bit of graininess and pixelization. Again, I think it's because of the master quality compounded by the high resolution format.
No extra features to speak of, except for an full-motion chapter selection menu. Unfortunately, there's no way to tell where you are in the menus, since the selections are not highlighted when you move around--that's a terrible design error.
Bottom Line: Don't get me wrong, this is a pretty good movie and one of the pioneering gonzo films of the day, but DVD might as well be a VCD with its quality and lack of features. Rent it for Shane & Seymore's first weekend getaway, but it's not a keeper.
