Initial Expectations: The scenes I’ve seen from this so far have been great, which gives me a lot of hope for this feature.

Initial Reaction: It’s every bit as good as the scenes I’ve previously seen.

Who Should Watch It : Anybody who likes artistic sex

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody who wants to watch sex in real time rather than slow motion.

Audio /Video Quality: The video has a little bit of grain that gives it almost a film-like quality. The lighting is well done, and leaves shadows in places that only seem natural and that don’t detract from the action. There’s a fair amount of slow motion throughout the feature, which means much of the audio is dubbed. The dubbing comes across well, and there’s quite a bit of voice overs as well. The audio is all clear, and most of it is well balanced.

Music: Saint provides the music, which is always a plus for me. Saint’s new age style works great with the variety and style of the scenes, and raises them up a notch from where they might be with other music.

False Advertising: The cover states that there’s 7 multiple angle areas, trailers, and behind the scenes footage, but none were on the DVD. Due to this sloppiness, I’m deducting a full point from the overall rating.

Menus: The main menu is fairly simple but shows some bad pixelation. The chapter menu is also very pixelated, and lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of the scene as well as letting you jump directly to the pop shot.

The Feature: It’s amazing the things that get people horny. Foods, movies (most of which don’t include a naked Ed Powers), music, and in some really scary cases, people dressed up like hot dogs. In Sex Spell, it’s a statue that does it. Of course, what might seem like a gift at first, might turn into a curse for others. No, it’s not much of a plot, but it’s good enough to bring together a good variety of scenes.

Joey Ray starts things out exploring some primal urges in the jungle with natives Lola and Nikki Fairchild. Joey appears delusional as the scene starts, which the editing shows very well by mixing things up in a very non-linear fashion. After giving us a taste of what’s to come, it moves back into the typical linear style with the girls warming Joey up with their oral skills. Joey returns the favor a bit before fucking Nikki as he and Lola hold her suspended between them. Lola gets her turn next, as Nikki plays with her a little, before the girls suck and stroke Joey onto Nikki’s very nice tits. It’s a pretty hot scene with some very good chemistry and energy. It’s definitely artistic, and the art seems to work here.

Sex Spell is a dang impressive porno, and perhaps the best I’ve seen from director Nicholas Steele. The scenes have very nice art direction that enhances most of the scenes rather than interfering with them, and remind me a lot of Nick Orleans’ style. The scenes are further helped out by a cast that had great chemistry together and put some very nice energy into the scenes. It’d be hard to pick out a best scene, and next to impossible to pick out the worst. Sex Spell is a great adult film that’s worth checking out. Unfortunately, whoever made the DVD didn’t talk to whoever did the cover, so I have a hard time recommending buying this one right away. At the very least, however, Sex Spell deserves a rental.

Extras: The photo gallery contains around a hundred good looking snapshots and full screen photos. There’s also a trailer for the feature, a group of photos to let you identify the female cast, and the ability to watch the just the sex scenes without the fast forward fodder.

Overall: Currently, Sex Spell can be found online for between $13 and $24 with quite a few stores offering it for around $15. Normally I’d recommend this one right away, but due to the discrepancies between the cover and what’s on the DVD (such as almost no extras) I’d suggest you rent this first. The sex is still extremely hot, and the transfer is pretty good too. If you’re a fan of Nicholas Steele’s other works, or Nick Orleans’ style, you’ll still want to buy it.

Note to Adam & Eve: Please pay a little more attention to your covers. This looks to be a very well put together DVD from what you claim you’re giving, and shorting customers will not make you look good.
