Sex Rituals Of the Occult, presented by Video-X-Pix is an odd duck. It purports to show “ritualistic orgies that strain the bounds of the imagination … a voyage into the erotic land of the occult.” Mostly it managed to strain my eyes. The DVD is a mastering of the 1971 release and appears to have been mastered from a VHS copy. The copy is ok, but the picture is very dark throughout. The movie runs 80 minutes and is presented in full screen, with Video X-Pix’s logo appearing periodically in the lower right corner. Sex Rituals is directed by Robert Caramico, who has an interesting mainstream career as a cinematographer.

The movie is narrated by Vincent Stevens, but other than him none of the cast is credited or listed. I couldn’t recognize any of them. He has a good voice for the narration, and reads the information from cue cards in front of his desk.

Chapter stops are truly bad. They aren’t at the beginnings of the 7 scenes but somewhere in each scene. The picture is dark, badly lit, with strange effects like colored lighting, kaleidoscope and bug vision, and the music is awful. Most of the sex is implied more than shown.

I wouldn’t recommend this if you are looking for porn to get off to. However, if you like the 70s exploitation/sexploitation films, this may be right up your alley.

Vincent starts each scene by sitting at his desk reading from cue cards. He talks about voodoo masks and the occult, setting up each scene as if it’s part of a documentary.

Scene 1 – A Black Mass

This scene takes place in a dark room with an open coffin. Fog rolls around from fog machines A girl lies naked in the coffin. Participants come in in robes and candles, and each kisses the coffin girl on the face, breasts, and pussy before going by. The leader in red sits her up and they kiss before he gets head from a robed girl in front of the coffin. He undresses her and she steps aside so another of his followers can flog him while he suckles the coffin girl. The participants have sex in a group in front of the coffin while the leader climbs in the coffin to fuck it’s occupant. Sex on top of the coffin as well.

Scene 2 - Fellatio Club Initiation

Still at the coffin, but a table in front of it now, containing a dildo. The girls all pick it up and run their tongues up and down before the men lay the initiate on the table and undress her. They take turns running the dildo down her body and kissing her pussy before pulling her head to hang over the table and fucking her mouth or rubbing their pussies into it. Shown from the feet end of the table, so you don’t really see it. They spread her legs and take turns fucking her with the dildo, and then the naked girls line up in front of the table so the guys can eat them out. Weird kaleidoscope effects here.

Scene 3 - Ritual Animal Play

No, not with an actual animal (that might have been interesting). Here it’s ritual play with an animal taking the form of a man. The girl undresses and lies down. A man kisses her all over – interspersed with shots of a German Shepherd’s head. They have sex with the other naked people standing around before another couple joins them on the platform. Group sex ensues.

Scene 4 – Witches

This scene is about a witch. If a maiden is possessed, she sublimates herself to the lesbian witch. The two are naked and have some real/simulated lesbian love in the dark. Above them on the podium/bed two other girl/girl couples grope and fondle.

Scene 5 – Bound Sex

Some cannot perform a sex act unless they were bound. This relieves them of shame, and they probably come from a home where sex education was taboo. The scene starts with a naked man and 2 women. He’s bound with his arms above his head and hooded. One of the women gives him a blowjob. Above them on the platform two women kiss and fondle. The man is released but still with his feet and arms bound, and he lays on the floor where the two women lavish attention on him. Strange lighting accompanies this scene. He seems pretty limp throughout the uninspired blowjob.

Scene 6 – Homosexuality

Surprising to see, especially considering the date of the film. Dating back to ancient times, today the ritual is still performed. Here a young man sits on a park bench and is joined by another man. They share a cigarette before they kiss. Both look young. They remove their pants and underwear in the fog, and then one lays down on the bench. They kiss some more before the other goes down on him. Mostly he nuzzles the other’s cock with his face, and the other guy never gets hard. Some dry humping before they trade places for some more nuzzling

Scene 7 – Voodoo

A young warrior hasn’t been able to have sex with his woman, and is given a potion which makes fertility spring from his loins. Here a black woman does her voodoo dance, and then he dances before having sex with her. Other naked women join n in the background to grope and fondle, and a coffin stands open. They all end up in a pile on the floor. More funky kaleidoscope effect here to finish out the scene.

At the end, our narrator states that actors were used to recreate the rites.

Again, this isn’t jack off material, but you may find it interesting if you’re a fan of bad 70s film.
