Sex On The Rocks (Pixies Emporium) Review

NOTE: This is an amateur video. Amateur and homemade movies don’t have the budget nor the resources of studio porn, and therefore rarely get close to the same quality technically. I’m rating this DVD on the same scale, but most homemade or amateur features would rarely make it above a 3 on the standard scale I use for studio porn for their technical aspects. The performers also aren’t normally the ‘glamour stars’ one expects from studio porn, and instead use people who look like somebody you might encounter in your day to day life. Finally, the camera work has a different feel, as it’s often shot from a tripod or with somebody who doesn’t have the technical training or experience of professional cameramen. That said, amateur and homemade features have a great charm to them, simple because the people in them are doing what they’re doing to have fun and because they enjoy it. All the things that separate them from studio porn contribute to that charm, I hope people will keep that in mind when checking out this review and not just look at the ratings as the ultimate word on this release. Since the technical aspects are normally lacking and there normally isn’t much for extras in amateur features, I’ve weighted my overall rating more heavily towards the sex than I do in most studio porn.

If you pick up this DVD, it might be slightly different than what I review here.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are pretty good for the movie and where it was shot. The audio comes and goes, mostly due to some of the movie being shot underwater. This poses plenty of different problems, but for the most part the audio is well balanced and free of background noises. The video is also pretty good. There’s a few places where the underwater sequences have problems, but the night shooting seemed to cause many more problems. There’s plenty of soft focus adjustments, which I’m guessing were due to the camera’s auto-focus. There’s also a fair amount of camera shake and other minor problems. I know this is an amateur movie, but it seems to have a few more problems than normal here.

Music: As usual, there’s a little music at the start and end of the movie, but none during the movie itself.

Disc Complaints: There’s a watermark in the lower right corner. I know some people don’t care for them, but it’s done right here. It’s very light and stays in one place so it’s easy to phase out. On a better note, Pixie’s Emporium has recently announced that they’re redoing their DVDs to get rid of the watermarks since people have let them know how much they dislike them.

Menus: The menus are pretty good. The main menu is unanimated, but gives a pretty good first impression. The chapter menu is also pretty good, and lets you choose a scene based on a title and still for each scene.

The Feature

Sex on the Rocks goes with a simple approach. There’s no plot to the movie, and it all revolves around rocks and water. Each scene features Pixie’s Emporium superstar Mandi*, who gradually works up to her first anal scene.

Scene 1 - Mandi* and Alex

Things start out next to the pool with Mandi* and Alex in bathrobes. They shed the robes before Mandi* gives him a little head and they head into the pool so she can continue. They trade places so Mandi* can get a little tongue action, and keep trading back and forth once they’re both in the pool including a bit of underwater action. They move on to fuck in a few positions in the water, including trying to do it in the deep end with the help of a water noodle. They finish things up with a little doggie style on the edge of the pool before Alex drops a nice creamy load on Mandi*’s ass.

This scene leaves more than a little to be desired. Alex and Mandi* look like they’re having a lot of fun, but the scene doesn’t quite work. It has a very experimental feel to it, and there’s a lot of underwater footage and footage that’s way too dark to see too much. I like how Pixie’s decided to try something new here rather than going with the same old thing, but it just didn’t work for me even though there was some obvious fun being had.

Scene 2 - Mandi*

After crawling around on a few rocks, Mandi* decides to take a little break. She strips down, dips herself in the stream running by, and sits on the rocks and diddles herself. Since she brought a vibe with in her backpack, she breaks it and her lube out for a little more play before she sucks it clean and lets the scene fade out.

This is a nice little scene. Mandi looks like she’s having fun, and as usual looks cute as can be. It’s a simple scene in a nice setting, but it works.

Scene 3 - Mandi*

Mandi* heads back to the pool at night for a little more solo action. She plays with herself underwater before bringing a toy into play. The slides it in and out of her pussy underwater, and brings another in to work on her clit while she fucks herself. She breaks to finger her twat before fucking herself a bit more with another toy and playing underwater.

This is another scene that just didn’t quite do it for me. The camera work is a little better here, but there’s plenty of times when I wasn’t sure which of Mandi*’s holes she was working on. It also goes on a bit long for what it is, and left me fairly bored by the end of it.

Scene 4 - Mandi*

Things move back to Mandi* on the rocks. She continues to work herself over with her little pink vibe, and then breaks out a small glass buttplug that looks to be about the same diameter as one of her fingers. She fucks her ass with the toy, and even has a few problems keeping it in. It pops out into the water a few times and she finally moves back to working on her pussy with another vibe. When enough is enough, Mandi* moves over to hop in a pool and diddles herself with her fingers a bit. She plays in the water a little more before finally hiking back out.

This is an okay scene. Once again Mandi* turns in a nice masturbation sequence, and the scenery helps things out even more. It isn’t hard to believe that this is Mandi*’s first anal, as she has plenty of amusing facial expressions to let you know if she’s comfortable with the toy up her ass or not. She’s a good trooper through the scene and makes it fun, but it never makes it much past the average mark. I think this one mostly made it to the average mark due to how realistic some of the anal is rather than making it look easy as can be.

Every now and then I’m reminded that there are two kinds of great ideas. First, there’s great ideas in reality. These are obviously the best kind of great ideas because they actually work. Second, there’s great ideas on paper. These aren’t normally so good as they don’t quite work in reality, and sadly Sex on the Rocks falls into this camp. Maybe I had too high of expectations here after the great luck I’ve had with Pixie’s Emporium so far, but this one didn’t come close for me. It’s too bad, because it does have some nice things. To start with, there’s the very cute Mandi*, who always looks like she’s having fun and who turns in her first anal scene here. She tries to make it work, but it just doesn’t go so well. I liked how it wasn’t covered up too much, but you can tell that things aren’t going so well there. The main thing to hold it back, unfortunately, is the technical aspects. The low lighting didn’t work well for me and there was plenty of camera shake. The scenes are also a bit long and a couple of them felt like they could have used another good edit. I know there’s plenty of people out there who wanted to see Mandi* take it up the keister, and although Sex on the Rocks lets you have that, don’t get your hopes up too much for it.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many DVDs from Pixie’s Emporium can be found online for around $13. Unless you’re a major anal fan, skip this one. There’s a lot of fun being had in the sex, but the technical aspects really hold it back. There’s also not a lot for extras.

Note to Pixie’s Emporium: I guess everybody stumbles now and then. Thank you for putting in your usual amount of effort into the DVD to make it worthy of standing next to your other titles.
