The Movie

Seed Money: The Chuck Holmes Story is a well-done documentary on Chuck Holmes, that actually performs a triple duty, by writer and director Michael Stabile, who has served as editor of The Sword, which is owned by NakedSword, and as media director and media consultant for NakedSword. While the obvious purpose of Seed Money: The Chuck Holmes Story is to tell about the life of Chuck Holmes, in addition, Seed Money: The Chuck Holmes Story also tells the story about the beginning of gay powerhouse Falcon Studios and the history of gay adult film. This makes Seed Money: The Chuck Holmes Story a worthy watch for anyone with an interest on any of these topics.

Seed Money: The Chuck Holmes Story gives a good all-around picture of Chuck Holmes. The beginning of the documentary focuses mostly on the story of how Holmes, John Travis, and John Summers formed Falcon Studios and Falcon Studios itself. The documentary then covers the AIDS epidemic and how it ravaged the gay adult film industry. The end of the documentary focuses on Holmes and his philanthropy and activism followed by his passing in 2000.

Seed Money: The Chuck Holmes Story uses a combination of new interviews and archival footage in the course of telling the story of Holmes and Falcon Studios. The archival footage used is a combination of photos, film, and video all illustrating different points within Chuck Holmes life. The use of Falcon Studios footage is used as well to highlight what the person being interviewed is talking about at the time. There is plentiful nudity but the Falcon Studios footage shies away from any actual hardcore footage.

Honestly, since Seed Money: The Chuck Holmes Story does such a good job not only on Chuck Holmes but also of Falcon Studios and a slice of time within the gay adult movie industry, this documentary should be of interest to any fan of classic adult movies.

The Edition

The edition of Seed Money: The Chuck Holmes Story screened is the streaming-only edition available on NakedSword. NakedSword has done an excellent job with their streaming-only edition. Seed Money: The Chuck Holmes Story was shot digitally and features archive footage that was shot on film and archival footage that was shot on video. Seed Money: The Chuck Holmes Story is presented in the anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1 in 1080p. The new footage looks beautiful without any issues and beautiful color. The archival footage that was shot on film is decent with grain and print damage. The archival footage that was shot on video looks poor with glitches and problematic colors. Overall, the documentary looks great.

Seed Money: The Chuck Holmes Story is presented with an English Stereo audio track. The movie relies mostly on interview footage which sounds excellent and at no time are the interviews hard to hear or understand.

NakedSword Film Works hasn't included any extras for their streaming-only release of Seed Money: The Chuck Holmes Story.

Final Thoughts

Seed Money: The Chuck Holmes Story has been released by NakedSword through their NakedSword Film Works (NSFW) division that was launched in 2016 to exhibit gay independent movies that aren't exactly pornographic yet aren't exactly mainstream. Seed Money: The Chuck Holmes Story is a documentary that tells about the life of Falcon Studios co-founder Chuck Holmes and of Falcon Studios as well. The documentary is excellent and gives the viewer a great picture on the rise of the gay adult movie industry as well as Chuck Holmes and the movie is a must-see for any fan of adult movies, gay or straight. NakedSword Film Works has done an excellent job with their streaming-only edition of Seed Money: The Chuck Holmes Story with nice audio and video quality.
