Initial Expectations: The only other of Plum’s early 1990s European releases I’ve seen has been Dracula , which pretty much sucked. I’m hoping that with Zara Whites and Sunny McKay this one is better.

Initial Reaction: If I didn’t know better, I would have thought that it was an Andrew Blake feature.

Who Should Watch It : Anybody who loves the natural form of a woman, fans of Andrew Blake’s style or Zara Whites, and anybody interested in B&D but is a little afraid of it

Who Should Avoid It: Extreme bondage fans and people who want straight hardcore fucking without any eroticism

Audio /Video Quality: Surprisingly, both the audio and video are very good. The audio is a little uneven, but it appears to have been done on purpose. The video also varies a little, and uses a few different styles for artistic effect.

Music: Strangely, the music comes and goes almost completely at random through some of the scenes. The style also ranges from typical porn music to early 1990s style rock to sexy jazz. It’s a very nice mix that ranges from a nice balance with the rest of the audio to being the only audio in the scene.

Menus: The menus are about as basic as you can get. The chapter menu shows a small cut of the chapter.

The Feature: When Zara Whites takes a quick breather on a park bench, she finds the man that left the bench left behind a videotape. She brings the tape home, unwraps it through many layers of wrapping, and pops it into her VCR to find that it’s a bondage tape. She’s very interested in it and it brings many fantasies to both her and her maid (Deborah Wells).

Reves de Cuir starts off artistic and sexy from the opening scene as a girl gets fucked by a guy. It’s hard to tell who either of them are since the entire scene has a strobe light effect. The audio is also a little different for the scene, with the only audio being a fairly driving early 1990s rock even though the woman appears quite vocal. In the middle, two guys in leather hoods come in and take her away and chase the guy off. It lets you know right away that this isn’t going to be your regular porno.

Deborah Wells dreams of becoming a more active participant in Zara White’s shower in the next scene, rather than just holding a robe for when she finishes. It’s a natural shower scene, with the shower head being the only thing close to a toy that’s used. There’s some good heat between the ladies, and there’s a tenderness between them that very few scenes seem to capture any more.

Zara dreams about taking part in the video she picked up. The blonde has some nice fetishwear and is hung from her wrists as Zara walks around her with a crop and eats her pussy. As Zara’s watching scene ends, it turns into the scene with her taking on the three guys, one of whom is Christophe Clark. The camera pans around to show that she isn’t restrained, as her feet are loose and she uses her hands to rub her pussy. In many ways, Reves de Cuir reminded me a lot of some of Andrew Blake’s early works, especially House of Dreams . There are a few different video styles used, and the female form is captured extremely well, which very few people do as well as Mr. Blake. It also has a very artistic feel through most of the scenes with things such as the colors in a room being used to enhance the scenes. It also handles the dream feel of the movie in a style very similar to Mr. Blake’s, where you’re not really sure what’s real and what’s a dream. If you enjoy hot, artistically done sex, you need to watch Reves de Cuir .

Extras: Internet information and a behind the scenes featurette that lasts almost twenty minutes. The behind the scenes can be watched either in the original French or with English dubbing. The dubbing is okay at best, and doesn’t translate most of the conversations. Thankfully, the interviews with Zara Whites, where she talks about why she’s in the adult film industry, and Francis Leroi, where he talks about making adult movies are translated. The featurette starts with the sequence where Zara watches the group as she’s gagged in the wheelchair. The scene where Zara is taken by the three guys is also included, showing nicely how some of it was done. There are little clips showing many of the other scenes as well, such as the final scene where Zara is tied up and the scene where Zara sucks off the three cocks from the TV. It’s a pretty average behind the scenes that lacks a little because most of the dialogue is in French and not translated.

Overall: Currently, Reves de Cuir can be found online for between $19 and $23 with a few stores offering it for under $20. It’s a very well done movie that’s very hot and reminds me a lot of Andrew Blake’s style. The transfer is very well done and the behind the scenes featurette isn’t too bad. It you can understand French, the featurette is probably a lot better.

Note to Plum: you did a very good job with this transfer. The behind the scenes is also a nice addition, but lacks quite a bit for those of us who don’t speak French. Normally I would have given this at least a 3 for extras, but since I couldn’t understand most of the dialogue I only have it an average rating.
