The First Word: One of the better X-rated magazine publishers in the U.S., Puritan may not be as good as Private, but Puritan Video Magazine 24 is definitely good quality porn with well-known stars at an affordable price.

What's It About?: This all-sex, plot-free volume contains six scenes, each following the same format: several minutes of solo girl teasing and masturbation, followed by a boy-girl or girl-girl sex scene lasting about 15 minutes.   Thankfully, there's no lame attempt at a setup or even dialogue in these encounters, just the sex.  Here's the scene list:

Hot Spanish Night - Adriana Sage is a pretty, thin Latina with smooth brown skin, nice, natural breasts, and a great ass.  Although the scene is entitled "Hot Spanish Night," the set is dressed in an Asian theme, obviously shot in someone's upscale home, with a set of Japanese armor and swords, a giant Oriental fan above the fireplace mantle, and a tiger-skin rug on the floor.  After rolling around seductively on the rug and playing with herself, Adriana is joined by one of my more favorite studs, Nacho Vidal.  They start whispering to each other passionately in Spanish throughout the scene, which definitely increases the heat.  So does her obvious enthusiasm, frequent smiles, and playful approach to sex.  But this is hardly a cuddly, romantic rendezvous -- Nacho fucks her pussy, mouth, and ass hard.  Finally, it's always nice to see some post pop-shot sucking and this scene has a good amount of that.

Bad Girl - I think Jessica Drake is a cutie, but I don't care at all for her fake knockers and excessively skinny frame.  I mention that because those are the thoughts that keep running through my head as this scene with her and Evan Stone plays out.  Speaking of Evan, he's clad in all black and has a 5 o'clock shadow to give him a "bad boy" image, probably not his best look though.  The first penetration shot isn't anything to write home about, but the second one is as Jessica straddles above Evan as he pistons his massive dick into her petite body.  It's worthy of a scene in Size Matters and you're left scratching your head how everything fits.  A decent scene, but gravity defying boobs and visible ribs temper enjoyment.

Naughty School Girls - This girl-girl scene pairs gorgeous blonde Bunny Luv (dressed in a yummy pink stretchy bikini) with Chandler, who does her best to look like Britney Spears in her school girl outfit.  After a mild start, there's one of the most memorable girl-girl shots I've seen in a long time as Chandler pushes aside Bunny's bikini bottoms and uses her thumb to rub her shaved pussy -- wow!  Fortunately, the heat continues through the rest of the scene as panties are removed and stuffed into mouths and pussies, both hands are used to vigorously rub and penetrate, and dildos and lots of fingers are used to stretch boxes open.  It's a nasty and intense scene, but not vulgar.  It's missing the customary earth-shattering climaxes, but maybe it's better that way since we're spared from watching fake ones.

Day Dreaming - Real life couple Vivi Anne and J.J. Michaels have an outdoor blanket bang.  I like the sultry redhead, who has perfect natural boobs, and J.J., despite his "Opie" looks is one of the better young woodsmen today.  After a long solo masturbation scene and an all-too-short blowjob, the couple engage in non-stop fucking in four positions before a quick oral popshot.  It's a nice "quickie" that's pretty satisfying for what it is.

Restless Spirits - I mentioned the comparison between Private and Puritan at the beginning of the review.  Well, this scene borrows two stars from the Private stable, Sophie Evans, a leggy blonde who's normally seen in the Pirate fetish line, and Eurohunk Tony Ribas.  Shot on a long spiraling staircase, the scene is too acrobatic for my taste -- having sex on a staircase is hard enough, but it looks really contrived to fuck whilst straddling a spiral banister!  It's pretty much a Private-style scene, except in two respects:  no anal and no slow motion cumshot.

Dark Fantasy - Whoop! Whoop! Whoop!  Stripper Alert!  Lita's huge knockers betray her dancing day job and set up the expectation that this is going to be a weak scene (since most strippers-turned-porn-stars are disappointing performers in my view).  And my rule-of-thumb is right in this case:  despite Steve's attempt to fuck her hard, her responses are as fake as her tits.  This is easily the weakest scene of the whole volume, and I have to admit that my fast forward button was exercised during this scene.  As a note, fans of watersports will like a brief bit of peeing, a total of maybe three seconds during Lita's introduction -- not my thing at all, but maybe it's yours.

What I liked: Don't Say a Word:  Except for things whispered or shouted during lovemaking, there's absolutely no dialogue at all on this DVD.  No minutes wasted in trying to set up the scene.  It was pretty clever that Michael Raven is classy enough to know that simply a scene title and the costumes of the performers is enough for most porn viewers to figure out the themes without needing any scripted lines.  While I like all-sex/gonzo porn with plot or setups, I prefer to dispense with the bullshit if it can't be done well, so I'm quite happy with the result here.

Pretty Girls, Nice Action: This video rises above the crowd because it features pretty girls (and guys, for the most part) in above average action.  The performers have some genuine chemistry together and that shows in the results.  While we're not talking about "award winning sex," it does peak my jaded interest, so it's definitely better than the run-of-the-mill porn churned out every day.  It's good stroke material and probably would be acceptable for couples viewing since it isn't that extreme and since you get the impression that the couples are into each other and not just going through the motions.

What I didn't like: Fake stripper tits: Right up there with snaggletooths, acne, and tattoos of boyfriends' names, bolt-on breasts are among the biggest turn-offs for me.  I'm sure Lita and Jessica Drake are great people, but I can't help looking at their boobs throughout the whole scene and thinking about how unnatural and unflattering they are.  Seeing implants sagging and tits that defy gravity and Newton's Laws are distracting, and in some cases, just gross.  Thankfully, there's only two scenes in Puritan Video Magazine 24 that have this problem, and one of them is a throwaway in my book.  So you're still left with over an hour of silicone free, near perfect breasts to ogle over.

DVD Extras: Other than a large gallery of magazine quality still photos, there's nothing else of value on the disc.  There are four ads that are selectable from the main menu but that's hardly a value-add.  I suppose we're lucky that Puritan wasn't shitty and made the ads mandatory viewing (like some other low-rent DVD companies).  Still, considering the other discs in this price range, it's a little cheap not to include trailers or something.

A/V Quality: The video quality is good, though not as sharp as the very best transfers.  The indoor scenes are not lit as well as they should have been, but it's hardly noticeable. Overall, the video is certainly serviceable for this genre -- it wasn't meant to be a reference quality DVD, nor was it done on the budget of one.  The audio is clear and well-mixed; the production sound is balanced with the musical track in a way that neither overwhelms the other.  I didn't notice any glaring problems with the A/V mastering, so I doubt that anyone will have a problem with the presentation.

The Last Word: This is a surprisingly good all-sex video and a lot better than I had expected.  With one outstanding scene (Adriana and Nacho), four solid ones, and only one mediocre pairing, it's a good value if you can get it for a reasonable price.  I wish it had more extras, but this volume has a lot going for it in terms of format and performances.  Plus, any video with Bunny Luv gets at least a conditional thumbs up in my book.  While I recommend this DVD, don't take that as a blanket recommendation for the Puritan Video Magazine line, since it really depends on who directs each volume or scene as to what you're going to get.
