Initial Expectations: Sarah Jane Hamilton is one of my favorite adult film stars, so I have some fairly high expectations here. My expectations are somewhat help in check because this is a Vivid release.

Initial Reaction: Prison World seems pretty tasteful for a bondage movie, but the technical aspects weren’t the best.

Audio /Video Quality: Both leave some to be desired. The audio is okay, but the music drowns out the dialogue. The picture may have been better when this was originally released on video. It’s kind of fuzzy throughout a lot of the movie.

Music: The music had more variety than I thought it would. Unfortunately, it seemed to be more balanced with the slap of the whips than with the dialogue.

Review: I got as far as seeing that there was a new Sarah Jane Hamilton DVD out before ordering this one. Fans of Sarah Jane know that we only get to see her here in older releases, so I was excited to see another one of her movies released. Little did I know when I ordered it that it was a bondage movie. Vivid has a tendency to water things down enough that I expected it to be a fairly mainstream friendly bondage movie. In a lot of ways, it is. There’s no heavy whipping or ball gags or other things that tend to make a lot of people scared of bondage. Most of it is handled quite well.

Surprisingly, Vivid also has a little bit of a plot to go with the sex. Prison World is kind of a retreat for those who enjoy domination and bondage. It is run by Warden Lola (Porsche Lynn) with the help of assistant warden Denise (Diva). As Prison World starts, Rebecca (Sarah Jane Hamilton) is checking herself into Prison World, effectively surrendering her rights to Lola and Denise. After the papers are signed, she is ordered to strip and her legs, wrists, and thumbs are cuffed as she is led to be examined. Later she meets Nicole (Misty Rain) as she scrubs the floor outside Rebecca’s cell and learns that Nicole was sent to Prison World by her master as a present. Warden Lola keeps a sharp eye on the girls and keeps them in line constantly. Unfortunately, the attention Nicole and Rebecca need leaves Denise feeling neglected. She only gets one spanking after the girls arrive with all the attention Lola needs to give them. Knowing how hard good help is to find, Lola gives Denise a little ‘loving’ attention. Finally, Rebecca decides to stay at Prison World indefinitely, much to Lola’s enjoyment.

Unlike most adult films, the scenes in Prison World were much shorter. It was rare for a scene to get close to ten minutes long, and many scenes were under five minutes. Also, the scenes weren’t nearly as graphic. There were almost no closeups of the girls as they were penetrated, instead the focus was on the girls being spanked or otherwise controlled (which I guess is the idea here). Thankfully, through most of the scenes, you could tell that the people were enjoying themselves. As dominatrix, Porsche was fairly gentle with the punishment. The whips left very little marks and were little more than slaps a lot of the time. The lightness made the movie a lot more enjoyable.

The main fault I have with Prison World is a completely personal, subjective problem that many people might not have. I don’t really care for Porsche Lynn. She does an excellent job in her role as warden / dominatrix, but she just didn’t do anything for me. This wouldn’t have been a big deal if she wasn’t in every scene. Denise (Diva) played the assistant warden and could have easily been used instead of Porsche’s character in several places. In Diva’s one scene, she did a great job. I would have really liked to have seen her work with Sarah Jane and Misty.

Extras: The movie side contains a slide show with about nineteen stills. It’s an average quality photo gallery. The bonus side contains 9 trailers, 10 ‘hot spot’ scenes, and another photo gallery. It’s set up a lot like the Vivid ‘interactive sex’ that’s on many of Vivid’s higher priced DVDs. You move between stupid looking icons and click on them to find out what the heck they do. The bonus photo gallery is automated lasting about three minutes twenty seconds with about five seconds per picture. Most of the people in this photo gallery I didn’t even recognize. The ‘hot spot’ scenes leave much to be desired. As usual with Vivid, they don’t give any reference for the scenes so that you can watch the entire scene in a movie. Even worse, in this case the scene takes place in a little box on the screen (it takes up about 10% of the screen) while you hunt around the screen with your remote control for a little icon to lead to another scene or a way out. Save yourself the time and skip the bonus side unless you’re interested in Raw trailers.

Raincoat Factor: If you’re into bondage and domination, very high. If not, medium.

Overall: Currently, Prison World can be found online for between $10 and $20 with several stores offering it for under $15. If you’re curious about bondage or a fan of Porsche Lynn’s, it’s worth the money. If you’re nervous about the subject or not a fan of Porsche Lynn, you’ll probably want to rent this one first.

Note to Vivid: Please cut the ‘Full 4 Hours’ crap on your covers. The first time buyer gets ticked off when they find that it isn’t a full four hours, and after that it just makes you look bad. Also, I know that this is one of your low budget titles, but please give a little more care to your transfer and other technical aspects.
