Prison Girls (Gourmet Video) Review

Review:
A two day furlough on the outside isn't necessarily a good thing for a handful of rowdy (...and randy...) female inmates, as is clearly the case in "Prison Girls", a decent, 1972, softcore release from GVC and director Tom DeSimone. At first, the ladies are enthusiastic about getting their chance to lead a normal life, if only for a couple of days, as part of the prison psychologist's "rehabilitation" experiment. From there, however, things quickly devolve for them. Indeed, one of them finds herself re-abused by her pimp who's moved on to handle a harem of other girls. Another is brutally raped by her initially-reluctant brother-in-law and a gang of his biker "friends". A third reunites with a former lover, only to have her cellmate/girlfriend rain on their parade. And, finally, a fourth--the stunningly beautiful and big-breasted Scandinavian, Uschi Digart--finds herself as an unwitting pawn in a sting operation targeting her wanted boyfriend...to a tragic end. So sad...

Despite this overall downer of a theme, this film does have one (...or several, in fact...) high point(s): Titties.... lots and lots of titties... and asses... and pussies, as well. As a softcore release, the emphasis is heavy on action and fighting...and even heavier on nudity. There are faked sex scenes, too, of course, but the centerpiece is the natural, 1970's female form...and there's plenty of it on display. In many ways, this flick can thus serve as a refreshing break from the constant cock-sucking and penetration shots of more-hardcore releases...if a "break" from such is actually ever truly needed. ;)

In terms of the print and transfer quality, this one could be better, as well. While its various technical shortcomings (scratches, out-of-sync sound, etc.) are distinctly nostalgic and even charming in a way, they're likely to put off at least some of the potential audience. Indeed, many people accustomed to a high-gloss, high-definition, digital world will probably find it difficult to acclimate to such poor, old-school quality.

So, in all, fans of the softcore genre, big and plentiful boobs, and/or Ms. Digart...especially those who aren't expecting the pinnacle of production values...will find something joyous in this one. For everyone else, it's probably going to be an easy pass.
