Initial Expectations: Nick Orleans is one of my favorite directors, and Inari Vachs is one of the most underrated actresses out there. The combination should make for a great fuck flick.

Initial Reaction: The feature’s pretty good, but the overall DVD feels like it was done by somebody who probably had ten years to go until they could legally watch the feature.

Audio /Video Quality: The audio varies a bit. As usual with Adam & Eve’s recent releases it’s on the quiet side, but at least this time it doesn’t have the distortion problems. The audio normally synchs pretty well with the video, but there’s also enough dubbing that much of the movie reminded me of watching Godzilla and Rodan. The video also varies quite a bit. Most of it is clear and barely shows any grain, but there’s also several areas with some highly inconsistence lighting and a few areas with some fairly bad pixelation that appears like it might be on purpose.

Music: The music is pretty typical porn music, and a little loud.

Disc Problems / Complaints: There’s no time code at all during the DVD. This is something that always makes a DVD seem shoddy to me, and when I checked out the chapter menu, I felt my feelings grow. The link to the main menu didn’t work, which might have something to do with the DVD being mastered so that there is only a root menu and not a main menu. If all this isn’t bad enough, the feature is divided into two separate titles, with the break occurring at almost one hour exactly, and you can’t go from one section to the other. If you want to get back to the first hour, you have to go back through the main menu. Most companies rose above this kind of crappy production well over a year ago, but Adam & Eve seems to be liking a “retro” feel to their DVDs by bringing the technical quality of many of their DVDs back to the early days of DVD, back when they were avoided due to DVDs such as The Dinner Party. These problems are bad enough that I felt it brought the overall DVD down a full point from what it would have been if it was done right.

Menus: The main menu looks very nice and has some decent animation. The chapter menu is pretty standard, and lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of the scene and a scene number. As usual, Adam & Eve has also given the ability to jump to the pop shot.

The Feature: When Evan Stone starts preferring to trade stocks online rather than fuck Taylor St. Clair, she sends him to The Love Foundation, where he’s supposed to learn how to be a better lover. Evan’s put in a workshop with comic lover Dale DaBone and sports fanatic Ian Daniels, and is put through both physical and mental tests. As many of us have learned, most anything related to the internet is not an easy addiction to cure, and as Evan finds out, love can make people do some strange things.

Taylor St. Clair starts things out trying to get boyfriend Evan Stone away from the computer screen. The Power of Love has an almost laughable plot, but the sex is hot and has great chemistry. Nick Orleans has shown repeatedly in the past that he knows how to make a great fuck flick, and this one is no different. He even brings in some nice artistic touches without dragging things down. Inari Vachs and Mia Smiles both smoke in their scenes, but there’s not really a bad scene here. The closest thing to a bad scene is the opener with Taylor St. Clair and Monica Mayhem, but I think that was more of a stylistic problem for me. There are a few problems, but almost all of them either have to do with the transfer or are bad dubbing. They brought things down a bit, but The Power of Love is still well worth watching.

Due to the poor overall DVD creation I’d suggest waiting until you can pick it up for under $10. If you’re a fan of Nick Orleans, you’ll probably be very happy with the feature. It shows his talent for making a very good adult film without much plot very well. The transfer is kind of a mixed bag, as are the extras (which include a decent bonus scene).

Note to Adam & Eve: Although it’s nice at first to see you coming out with more DVDs lately, but I think everybody would be a lot happier if you’d put twice the effort into half the DVDs. With the quality many of your recent DVDs have shown, such as this one, you’re starting to risk your DVDs being seen as about one step above Leisure Time and Zane rather than competing against VCA and Wicked like you were appearing a year ago.
