The Short Story

Initial Expectations: Michael Raven is my favorite feature director, and Violet Blue, Ashley Long, and DoLorian have all been amazing me lately. I’m going into this one with what’s probably a lot higher hopes than I should have.

Initial Reaction: It’s not anything mind-blowing, but it is a nice little diversion.

Who Should Watch It : Couples wanting something fairly light

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody wanting a wide range of sex acts or anything with a bit of nastiness

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are pretty darn good, just as I’ve come to expect from Wicked. The audio is clear and well balanced, and I don’t think I noticed a single background noise. The video is also very nicely done. It almost has a hint of grain, which I don’t mind because I think it works well with Raven’s artistic eye, and the lighting varies nicely through the movie. It is a bit inconsistent between some shots, but it isn’t overly noticeable. My only real complaint with the video is that it’s presented in the non-anamorphic widescreen format. I love that studios are giving the widescreen format a lot of use lately, but a non-anamorphic transfer cheapens it quite a bit as well as making it worse for people who own a widescreen TV.

Music: The music is a lot of fun. It sounds like it could be in a screwball comedy and helps to keep things nice and light. It varies in balance throughout the movie, and ranges from resting nicely in the background to dominating the audio.

Menus: The menus have a fun and artistic feel which made a great first impression with me. The biggest problem with them is that the chapter menu lets you choose a scene just based on a small clip of each scene and a chapter number.

The Feature

When Violet Blue looks to move off campus, she ends up renting part of a house from Talon. He seems like a nice guy at first, but ends up being a pig. For some reason, she can’t resist him, however, and here Violet, Talon, and Violet’s best friend Brooke look back on their time together to try to figure things out.

Scene 1 - Violet Blue and Talon

Violet starts things out collapsing on the bed with Talon. He tries questioning her about it, but Violet lets him know that her mouth could be doing better things than trying to figure it out before sliding down to suck his cock. Talon returns the favor before giving it to Violet both in doggie and missionary style. Finally, Talon comes up to deposit his dick droppings on Violet’s nicely natural tits before Violet sucks out the last few drops.

This is a pretty good opening scene. Violet and Talon have nice chemistry and energy, and the entire scene has a fun feeling. It moves along nicely with a good blend of camera angles, and all works together to give the movie a very nice start.

Scene 2 - Ashley Long and Evan Stone

After winning a coin toss with Talon, Evan gets to take on Ashley on Talon’s couch. Evan plays the gentleman by tonguing Ashley’s twat before they move around for a little sixty-nining. This is a pretty good scene. Ashley and Evan really look to be into each other well. Evan gets fairly rough with Ashley, but it never seems out of line. Scene 3 - DoLorian and Chris Cannon

As soon as they get rid of DoLorian’s roommate Brooke, she and Chris get down and dirty. She even handles the non-sex portion of the scene well and shows that she has some acting talent. I have yet to be disappointed by one of DoLorian’s performances, and this one is no different. This is a girl to keep your eye on.

Scene 4 - Brooke and Talon

When Violet chooses sleeping over fucking Talon, Brooke decides to take care of his needs. Talon shows his immediate appreciation by tonguing her twat before Brooke reciprocates nicely. Brooke lets Talon take her doggie style before climbing up to ride him cowgirl style. I don’t know why, but this scene didn’t do a lot for me. Maybe it was Brooke’s sluttiness or Talon’s looking like he was upset he wasn’t playing for the other team. There’s some nice energy and all, but something about the scene just didn’t work for me.

Scene 5 - Violet Blue and Brooke

Finally, Violet and Brooke realize that they really want to be with each other. Brooke kisses her way across Violet’s body, starting with her tits and then moving down to work on her pussy. Brooke works Violet over, but never gets anything in return. Finally, they finish things up with a kiss.

This is probably the weakest scene in the movie. Brooke does a good job of working on Violet, but Violet not reciprocating really holds it back. It’s too bad because there is some nice chemistry between the girls and the camera work keeps things pretty well balanced. It has a few more close-ups than I’d like, but still works well to look at.

Post Modern Love is a nice piece of fluff. It stays light and fun, and the he said - she said format of the plot lets it stand apart from so many other adult movies which are very similar. Violet and Brooke do a great job in their roles, but Talon had be wondering why he was in a leading role most of the time. He seemed to struggle with the non-sex portions of the movie, looking almost like he was having trouble reading the cue cards, and his face looked so tight that I wondered if it’s had as much attention from plastic surgeons as most porn star’s racks. That said, I liked Post Modern Love. It’s not anything fantastic, but the sex is pretty consistent and nicely couples oriented. Almost all of the scenes have very nice chemistry and it looks like the cast is enjoying themselves through the scenes. I also like that Michael Raven has a very good artistic eye and mixes the camera work up nicely. There’s a few points when I wanted a different camera angle, but for the most part I was happy with the camera work and editing. Post Modern Love succeed where so many other couples movies don’t because it concentrates on chemistry and doesn’t try to be something more than what it is.

The Extra Stuff

Star stats are included for Violet Blue, DoLorian, Chris Cannon, and Evan Stone, each of which includes a few photos of the star, a little personal information, a filmography, and a small clip of the star in action. Trailers are included for Angel X, Beautiful, My Father’s Wife, The Bride of Double Feature, and Space Nuts. There’s also a bonus scene, a company profile, promotional materials, web links, and the Wicked Casino. There’s also plenty of photos, a behind the scenes featurette, and an interview.

There are several photo galleries included on this DVD. The feature gallery lasts about four and a half minutes while the behind the scenes gallery lasts nearly two minutes. There’s also star galleries for Violet Blue, DoLorian, Ashley Long, and Brooke which last about three minutes each. In each case you get about nine seconds per full screen photo, but rather than letting you just look at the photo they zoom in and out almost like the horrible style that Vivid uses. It’s not a good thing, and I hope Wicked quickly dumps this style.

The interview with Violet Blue lasts a little over five minutes. She talks about what she was like growing up, being AVN’s Starlet of the Year, and how she got into the evil, evil industry. It’s a nicely done interview and gives you a nice feel for Violet as a person as well as letting you know about her.

All Access: The Making of Post Modern Love lasts about thirteen minutes. As usual, everybody in the movie is nicely identified so you know who’s who in the movie. Michael Raven gives a nice little introduction to the movie, and you get to see plenty of him working with the cast. He tries to teach Talon how to act, later has a very fun discussion with DoLorian. There’s also a bit of the scenes and still photos being shot. It’s not as elaborate a behind the scenes featurette as I’m used to from Wicked, but still works quite nicely.

Bonus Scene - Dolorian and Eric Masterson

DoLorian and Eric’s scene from Without You is also included. DoLorian starts things out kissing her way down Eric’s body in bed until she gets to his cock. She takes into her throat happily before climbing up to bounce on Eric cowgirl style. DoLorian also lets Eric spoon her smoothly shaven slit and mount it missionary style. Finally, DoLorian gets down to take an impressive facial to bring things to a hot and wet close.

This is a very hot scene. DoLorian really looks to be into the entire scene very well, and doesn’t hold back at all on the vocals or her energy. Eric seemed a bit restrained, but with the energy DoLorian was putting out I’m not sure how he couldn’t without having to pay for wrecking the bed. This is a very nice scene that shows why DoLorian should be getting a lot more attention.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many of Wicked’s DVDs can be found online for between $15 and $30 with many stores offering them for around $21. This one’s light, fun, and fairly simple with some nicely done sex. If that’s what you like, this one should be very well worth your money. The technical aspects are nicely done, and there’s even a bit of effort put into the extras. This isn’t a mind-blowing DVD, but it is nicely done.

Note to Wicked: It’s nice to see you putting a little style in your movies and the overall DVDs and stepping away from the contract girls a little.
