The Short Story

Initial Expectations: I haven’t heard too much good about this one, and since Carmen Luvana and Nicholas Steele didn’t overly impress me with Dinner Party 3 I can’t get my hopes too high here.

Initial Reaction: It’s all over the place sexually, but the story worked well for me and there were a couple scenes I really liked.

Who Should Watch It : Anybody looking for something on the softer style who values style over substance

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody wanting things to get a little nasty or extremely passionate

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are pretty good. The audio is clear, very nicely balanced, and didn’t have a single background noise that I noticed. The video leaves me torn. The cover has a large note on it about the movie being ”Shot in High Definition Wide Screen Format”, yet the movie isn’t given the anamorphic transfer that would give the high definition format the care it deserves. Instead, it goes the Mal-Wart cheap route of a non-anamorphic widescreen presentation, which nicely screws people who own the widescreen TVs that seem like they’d be drawn to a movie with a ”Shot in High Definition Wide Screen Format” claim on its cover. Beyond that, there’s just a hint of grain, which I think is there on purpose to give the movie a little more of a film-like look, and the lighting is nicely done.

Music: The music is very nicely done. It’s sometimes a little on the loud side, but it varies in style very nicely from scene to scene.

Disc Complaints: To start with, there’s the ”Shot in High Definition Wide Screen Format” complaint I mentioned earlier. The DVD also annoys me because there’s no time stamp on the movie, which means that you’re completely limited to the chapter breaks for disc navigation. Thankfully, this is not something I’m still seeing out of Adam & Eve.

Menus: The main menu is nicely animated and works into a nice look at the movie to give a very good first impression. The chapter menu is very basic, and lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene.

The Feature

For one of her college classes, Carmen decides to investigate the rumored paranormal activities at a local mausoleum. She’s pleased to find that her past lover and friend Evan works there as the caretaker, who drops some hints of what might be inside for her. Inside, she meets another caretaker, Steven St. Croix, who helps her as she finds herself drawn into some of the happiest parts of the lives of those who are put to rest there.

Scene 1 - Neveah Ashton and Cheyne Collins

Neveah, a cute brunette showgirl, and Cheyne, a famous chef, enjoy a little food outside before he proposes to her. After a few bites he proposes to her, and they celebrate her acceptance with a boink. They kiss passionately before Cheyne moves down to lick her pussy. This is a nice scene with a few minor problems. For the good part, Nicholas Steele does a nice job setting things up romantically and keeps the camera work beautiful without ruining much of the heat. Unfortunately, there’s a few minor details that hold it back. First, Cheyne seems to be struggling with his accent and the dialogue so much that his head could explode at any moment. The second problem was that Neveah’s tattoos were a little too noticeable for a turn of the century piece when it would have been all too easy to have left on a little something to cover it. Although I had a couple problems with this scene, I also found it nicely romantic.

Scene 2 - Natalia Wood and Julian

In 1922, cute brunette Natalia gets it on with Julian, her husband and a famous piano player for the Chicago Orchestra. He’s getting frustrated with a piece he can’t play the night before the concert, but can play it when she’s there. When he stops playing, they head to the staircase and kiss passionately as he plays with her pussy. Julian moves down to tongue her pussy before she reciprocates with a blowjob. This is a pretty average scene. Yes, her being the inspiration that makes him play it is cute, but extremely dumb for anybody who’s ever performed. The staircase scene also seemed extremely generic and the slow motion interfered with the scene pretty badly as well. Julian and Natalia put in some okay effort, but the scene just couldn’t grab me.

Scene 3 - Carmen Luvana, Olivia del Rio, and Joey Ray

There’s great chemistry between Carmen and Olivia, and they work Joey in very well too. The main thing that held this scene back is that each girl only had one positions before it ended. This is a pretty good scene that would have been a little better if it had been lengthened out.

Scene 4 - Amber Rain and Evan Stone

Things move back to the Civil War era as Confederate soldier Evan returns home to his blonde love Amber to wake her with an almost Snow White or Sleeping Beauty-like opening. Although she volunteers to take care of him, Evan moves down to tongue her twat instead without even waiting for her to take off her gown. It stays on as she has him lay back so she can suck his cock, but comes off before she starts riding him cowgirl style. Amber goes back to her back for a little missionary work before Evan pops on her stomach.

This is an average at best scene. It’s definitely concerned with having things look pretty, but sadly nothing else about the scene impressed me much. It throws in way too many close-ups, and the two positions to fuck and then a pop got extremely noticeable here. This is a fairly forgettable scene.

Scene 5 - Dominica Leoni and Steven St. Croix

After explaining how he solved a murder to brunette Dominica while they shoot some pool, Steven lets her have the prize in his pants for making the winning shot. This is hands down my favorite scene in the movie, and one of the few that worked almost completely for me from start to finish.

Scene 6 - Carmen Luvana and Evan Stone

Carmen and Evan return to hook up at a beach bar. They kiss before sixty-nining, and Carmen follows it up with a cowgirl ride. She rolls back so Evan can fuck her missionary style before getting down so he can fuck her from behind. Finally, Even pops on Carmen’s ass.

This is a pretty good final scene. Evan and Carmen seem to be into each other well, and they make good use of the location. The camera work didn’t impress me here as much as it did in the last scene, and there was something that seemed a little off that I can’t quite put my finger on. This is a decent end to the movie, and does so in a nicely romantic way.

Possession is a pretty good couples movie. Yes, the story is fairly generic, but it worked nicely for me. I think much of this is due to Steven’s performance as the caretaker inside with Carmen helping a little as the inquisitive student. It sets up the scenes very nicely, and having Steven as the guide gives a nice bit of background for each scene rather than taking a lot of time for it or leaving the scene a little shorter and not quite as deep. The sex seemed all over the place for me. Steven St. Croix and Dominica Leoni easily had the best scene in the movie for me, with Cheyne Collins and Neveah Ashton coming in a fairly distant second and Amber Rain and Evan Stone bringing up the rear. Nicholas Steele pays a lot of attention to making sure that all of the action is beautiful, but it also comes off as being fairly restrictive by having most of the scenes being oral for each, two positions, and a pop. Several of the scenes also felt fairly generic in their setup. Possession shows both the strength and weakness of Nicholas Steele. He puts some nice effort into making the scenes romantic, but at the same time often sacrifices the heat of the scene to do so. As I write this review, it’s getting close to Halloween, and Possession seems to fit the time of year nicely. It has a mysterious feel that goes through much of the non-sex portion of the movie along with some beautiful sex that makes it a good choice to watch with that special someone. It’s also romantic enough to work the rest of the year as well. Possession comes off a little too cliched at times and often loses some of the passion of the sex, but it still worked pretty well for me.

The Extra Stuff

Trailers are included for Code Blue, Rawhide, and Lover’s Choice. The photo gallery includes about thirty very nice looking framed snapshots which advance roughly every six seconds unless you move forward before that. There’s also weblink, bonus scenes, and a behind the scenes featurette.

The behind the scenes featurette lasts almost twenty five minutes. After starting with a photo shoot montage, things move through Amber and Evan’s scene with Evan, of course, making plenty of wisecracks. Natalia Wood gives a short interview next, followed by Carmen posing for photos and talking about being in the industry and where she is in her life. Through it all, there’s clips of the movie being shot set to music. This is a pretty good behind the scenes featurette, but would have been helped out by including Steven St. Croix as well as interviewing a few other performers.

Bonus Scene 1 - Ava Vincent and Kurt Lockwood

The first bonus scene comes from Dirty Dancers: The Movie. Blonde Ava starts things out kissing Kurt on the couch before Luc interviews them about them hooking up. As soon as they’re done, Ava works her magic around the poll wearing a little pink and black lingerie. This is an okay scene. There’s nice chemistry between Ava and Kurt, but that wasn’t quite enough to make this a really good scene for me. As usual, Luc has a kind of guerilla style of filming that is kind of hit or miss with me, and here it missed. It also missed because the dancing is such a small part of the scene. I’m really not sure if it lasted longer than the interview or not, but it definitely wasn’t enough and it could have been captured better. This isn’t a bad scene, but there’s also nothing too memorable about it.

Bonus Scene 2 - Venus and Tyler Wood

The second bonus scene comes from Under the Influence. Venus starts things out sucking a large green dildo while rubbing her pussy. This is a pretty good scene for Roy Karch, and as usual, doesn’t come close to capturing the full potential of the scene.

Currently, many of Adam & Eve’s DVDs can be found online for between about $8 and $25 with several stores offering them for around $15. At the low end this isn’t a bad buy. The movie’s fairly generic, but at least looks nice. The movie looks and sounds nice, although it isn’t given the anamorphic transfer it deserves. Finally, there’s some good effort put into the extras. This is a decently put together DVD.

Note to Adam & Eve: If you’re going to use the widescreen format, please give it the anamorphic transfer it deserves.
