Initial Expectations: I'm not sure if I've ever checked out a Mercenary Pictures release, and if so it's been a heck of a long time ago. I'm going into this one with a bit of hope due to it having a fantastic cast as well as it being nominated for the Best POV Release of 2009 by the XRCO.

Initial Reaction: It's a great POV release that makes it very easy to see how it earned its nomination.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are pretty good. The audio is clear and well balanced, but there are a few minor background noises. The video is presented in anamorphic widescreen and looks very good. There's a touch of pixelation and a few lighting imbalances, but Lex has a steady hand capturing the action.

Music: The music rests very quietly in the background and has a sexy feel that helps the scenes out.

Menus: The main menu is pretty basic, and mixes a bit of the boxcover with a few clips from the movie. Pole Position 9 is a great POV release. That said, I know there's two types of POV porn out there with each style having its own fans. Lex comes off as being extremely personable and as somebody who cares what his fans think, which is a very good thing. On the other hand, this featurette seems more like an infomercial for other Lex products than it does being about the behind the scenes of the movie. Lex comes off as a nice guy here, but there isn't really anything beyond that to make this featurette worth paying attention to.

The action is nicely captured and filled with chemistry. The technical aspects show some decent care and there's a touch of effort put into the extras. This is a great movie on a DVD that shows some good care.

Note to Mercenary Pictures: It's great to see you bringing out such nice personality in your behind the scenes featurettes, but you might want to drop the infomercial mentality and talk a bit about the stars or the making of the movie instead of trying to plug so many of your other products.
