Initial Expectations: Smash and Jordan have been doing great things lately, and I’ve really been looking forward to this release. I’m going in with very high expectations and just hope they’re not too high to be met!

Initial Reaction: There’s some decent sex here, but the internal pop shots don’t always work the best.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are pretty good. The audio is clear and well balanced, but there are a few minor background noises. Most importantly, the music and movie are nicely mixed so that they both come out of both speakers rather than having the music come out of one speaker and the rest of the audio come out the other speaker like so many of Smash’s other releases. The video is also pretty good. It has a soft feeling with a hint of grain, but that helps to give it a slightly artistic feeling rather than making it feel cheap. It’s also nicely lit and rarely has a shadow interfere with anything. The biggest problem with the video is that there’s a decent sized black bar across the bottom of the screen, but there’s also a few flashes of remnants. Oddly, there’s also a couple very faint pink dots which also pop into view during the fourth scene.

Music: The music is pretty decent. It’s the same style used for Smash’s Legal Skin series, and it’s nicely balanced with the rest of the audio.

Menus: The menus are very nicely done, and show some nice improvements from Smash’s past releases. The main menu is simple, but works in a little animation and a clip from the movie to help give a good first impression. The chapter menu shows quite a bit of care. It first lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and the names of the girls in each scene, and then lets you jump to a specific sex act in the scene.

The Feature

Planting Seeds goes with a vignette style. Each scene has a small opening, and always moves quickly past it to make it to the main event. The scenes are never connected by the openings, but are instead connected by an internal ‘cream pie’ finish.

Scene 1 - Simony and Nick Lang

Knockout brunette Simony starts things out laying out in the sun and watching Nick as he waters her bushes. I would have probably accepted it if they’d been fucking a bit before the pop, but there’s an edit a few seconds before Nick supposedly pops and you never see any motion from his cock or balls. This scene reminds me of those UFO posters. I want to believe. After hearing from Jordan Heart, I guess we’re both right. It’s both real and fake, and best explained in Jordan’s own words which I’ve included at the end of the review.

Scene 2 - Vanda, Liz Honey, and Frank Major

They all put in nice energy, but this just threw the scene a little. The bigger problem was the pop shot. When it flowed out of her pussy, it looked like somebody had injected most of a carton of whipping cream up Liz’s cunt. I don’t think there could have been that kind of volume flowing out of Liz if she was being gangbanged by Peter North and twenty of his clones. The pop really brought this scene down for me, and because of it, I can’t even consider Vanda’s eating it up as cum eating. Once again, there’s an explanation that I’ve left to be explained by Jordan at the end of this review.

Scene 3 - Silvy and Mike Foster

Scene 4 - Melanie and Mairo

Scene 5 - Lora Croft, Mya Diamond, Lauro Giotto, and Choky Ice

This is a very hot scene, and easily the best in the movie. There’s great chemistry between Lora, Mya, and the guys, and they mix things up nicely. With the way the scene started I was afraid this was going to be one of those group scenes where the two couple go at it and never interact. Instead, the interaction between the couples and partner swapping in the middle increases the heat in the scene nicely. There’s great energy, and Lora shows a nice bit of nastiness with her double penetration. Best of all, the pop shots at the end are both nice and real, which helps make this an excellent scene to end the movie with.

Planting Seeds has a consistently nice start to each scene, but the cumshot ending to the first two scenes held back the entire movie for me as a cream pie fan. According to Jordan they’re real pops with a little extra added, and that just didn’t work for me. Several years ago when virtual sex DVDs were first released, there was a heck of a backlash at most of them due to fake pop shots. It didn’t matter if they were computerized or some wet concoction that was rejected from an eighth grade science class on the day where the kids were wondering why the teacher seemed so unusually happy. At the same time, I’m reminded of some of the comments which were made in the commentary track for B&D Pleasure’s Undead Bondage Master. They commented on the importance of finding girls who were really into bondage because many of their hardcore fans could tell the difference. It’s the same kind of thing here, with the addition of a little more goo ruining the real thing for me. For a cream pie fan to watch a finish like is in the first couple scenes is kind of like an interracial fan watching a white chick taking on a guy smeared with black shoe polish! It’s not a minor difference that only the fetishists can tell, and the shoe polish also ruins whatever skin color the guy might have originally had. This is really too bad because I had a lot of hope here. Smash and Jordan Heart have really been putting together great casts lately, and this one looks just as good as I expected. There’s some nice chemistry and energy in the scenes and the camera work mixes things up nicely. The rest of the movie, and especially the last two scenes, is very nicely done and comes close to helping the movie work past the rough opening endings. If the enhancement of the pops don’t really matter to you and you’re just looking for something other than the usual facial, you can probably add at least a point if not a point and a half to both the sexual and overall scores. Planting Seeds has a good start, but the addition of a little too much fertilizer held back some of the action from growing into what it promises.

The Extra Stuff

The behind the scenes featurette lasts over twenty minutes. It also mixes in a bit of Jordan working with the cast and the cast having a little fun on the set. It’s a nice featurette, but some of it will be lost on those of us who don’t speak Hungarian as there’s a fair amount of the dialogue which isn’t in English (and I’m assuming it’s in Hungarian knowing full well what happens when one assumes). You can still get a good feel for the personality of everybody involved, and it looks like a fun and loose set.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many Smash DVDs can be found online for between $14 and $24 with most stores offering them in the $20 range. Rent this one first. There’s some good sex and hot women here, but the enhancements of some of the pop shots is going to hold it back for a lot of people. On the plus side, the overall DVD is showing quite a bit of care including a time stamp, a good audio mix, and some very nice care put into the little details. The technical aspects are pretty good and there’s a bit of effort put into the extras.

Note to Smash Pictures: Thank you for the improvements you made to the overall DVD such as finally adding a time stamp and mixing your audio better! You have a great start here, and I hope you continue it in the future with real pop shots!

Extra Note 08Nov04: Due to the question on the reality of the cumshots, Smash was good enough to put me in touch with director Jordan Heart out of Budapest, Hungary. Jordan was nice enough to explain what happened on the first few scenes, and it only seems fair that I pass it on. I’ve corrected a few of the minor spelling errors that always occur with a minor language barrier, but other than that, everything’s exactly as it came from Jordan:
