Initial Expectations: Private’s Pirate Video DeLuxe line has been extremely good from what I’ve seen, so I’m expecting more of the same here.

Audio /Video Quality: The audio and video are both great. The video is very clear and presented in a widescreen format. It’s nice to see a studio support this format, but sadly it doesn’t go all the way to anamorphic and instead is a matted letterbox. As usual from Private, much of the audio is dubbed, but that’s to be expected in a foreign movie. The dubbing is very clear and nicely balanced, as is the original audio.

Music: The music is a little eerie and different, but this is a different type of feature. Typical porn music would not work here! The music fits the feature and is well balanced, which helps out the scenes quite a bit. Unlike most features, the music is not there throughout the entire scene, and frequently disappears.

The Feature: During a very lucky day on the job, shoe salesman Steve Holmes is invited to a party by Vivi and Wanda Steel. Surprisingly for today’s porn, Fetish Obsession only has four scenes, which makes the average scene last almost a half hour. This is good and bad. If you like what’s in the scene, you’re going to have a lot of it to watch. This can turn into a bad thing, because some of it can go on a little too long. I admit that there were several times I started looking for the remove because things seemed to be in kind of a rut. I have nothing against scenes this long, it’s just that I think things have to change a little more often. Most of the scenes are very good, especially the third scene which some consider two scenes, and lasts almost an hour. There’s a reason Private’s Pirate Video DeLuxe series is well regarded by fetish sex fans, and although it’s not the best I’ve seen from the line, it still shows why quite well.

Extras: Trailers are included for this feature as well as Heaven on Earth, Bitches, Day Dreams, The Best Russians, and Triple X Files 2. The photo book offers thirty extremely nice looking full screen shots, all of which appear to have been taken directly from the feature. The cast listing gives a nice little bio for Dorothy Match, Melody Kord (Brita), Mercedes, Michelle Wild, Sophie Angel, Vivi, and Wanda Steel. Each bio includes a little bit of information about the star as well as a listing of their other Private offerings. The film notes gives a fairly nice run down of the movie, as well as a little technical information about it. It adds a little to the package, and is something I’m surprised other studios haven’t ripped off. Finally, The Report runs just over five minutes and acts as a short behind the scenes featurette as well as a nice intro to the feature. It doesn’t add too much, but does show some of the behind the scenes action as well as identifying some of the stars. Unfortunately, none of the guys from the feature are ever identified on the DVD.

Overall: Currently, Fetish Obsession can be found online for between $17 (on sale) and $27 with most stores offering it for about $23. If you’re a fan of fetish sex or shoes, this one is definitely worth checking out. It has some very good sex, a great transfer (although there is a little dubbing), and some nice extras.

Note to Private: I’m thrilled that you’re making adult movies in widescreen, but please take it all the way and make it anamorphic. For those with widescreen TVs it makes a lot of difference! Also, please list the feature running time rather than the entire DVD. You’re about the only one out there who lists the times this way and it’s deceiving to most customers.
