Synopsis:
An apartment building filled with prudish residents is being exterminated to remove pests. When the residents of the building have a reaction to the pest spray being used, the effected residents enter a sexual fantasy world where all of their dreams come true.

Video/Audio:
The Sexterminators is presented in a widescreen format of 1.85:1, which I expect is the original aspect ratio for the film. The picture is relatively clear and sharp but does exhibit some fine grain. Not enough to bother owners of a standard consumer sized television set, but those of you with larger sized televisions may find the grain large enough to be distracting. There are no artifacts present on this print and only an occasional video glitch or two. The colors are vibrant and true.

The original audio track, a 2.0 French Stereo track, is included on the disc along with an assortment of dubbed tracks. All of the dubbed tracks, as well as the original track, sound roughly the same, except for the Italian track which seems to be missing some of the music and sounds flat. The dubbed tracks are much better here than what I have heard from Private in the past. Instead of leaving in the original dialog and adding a voice over narration to tell you what is going on, Private has removed the original dialog and created a true dubbed track. I hope this is a trend they continue. There are 2.0 Stereo dubbed tracks for English, German, Spanish, and Italian and subtitles available for Dutch, Swedish, Danish, Portuguese, and Polish.

Chapters/Time Code:
There are four chapters available from the main menu for The Sexterminators, one going to the beginning of each of the sex scenes. The chapters are identified by a video clip from the scene and a name for the scene. There is a time code for the feature film, so time searching is available.

Special Features:
Private has included several extras on the disc and most of them relate to the feature film. By far the best extra is the report, which is a making of the film feature in English. They have also included the English language trailer for The Sexterminators in 1.85:1 widescreen format. There is the photobook, which is a collection of 63 stills from the film that you flip through. The production notes seem to be a general press release regarding the film. The cast profiles, on Alice, Britnee, Dina Pearl, Mandy Bright, Melinda, Michelle Wild, Myli, and Patricia Diamond, offer info plus a Private magazine, VHS only and DVD filmography for each star. The only extra that doesn't relate to the feature film are the previews for Private Lust Treasures 5, Center of Sex, Private Goddesses, Lost in Sex, and Bacchanal.

DVD-ROM Special Features:
The DVD-ROM extras on the disc are the DVD Catalog which includes the Private DVD releases through July of 2002 and has information and screen shots of all past Private DVD releases, and the PC Bonus which is The Sexterminators style wallpaper for your personal computer.

Review:
The Sexterminators is a plot-based film from Private that shows the high caliber films that Kovi is capable of making. The plot itself is lacking and by itself doesn't carry the film too far. There is enough to sustain viewers who like a little plot with their sex, but not enough that it will disturb viewers who hate plot based adult entertainment.

Kovi and the director of photography, Karel C., have created a visually stunning film. A lot of thought went into this film and it shows in the final product. From the well designed sets to the excellent tracking shots, The Sexterminators is a visual treat. To begin with, each scene was obviously thought out long before it was shot. The outlandish set design is both excellent and surreal at the same time. Due to the style of the film, the fanciful set design works in the favor of the film instead of against it.

There is great use of color in the sex scenes to enhance them. The non-sex portions are styled in placid colors but the sex scenes make use of unrealistic vibrant colors to bring the fantasies to life. For instance, in the first scene, which has the dungeon look to it, the set is dressed in reds and blacks. In the hospital scene, everything is in bright colors, reds, blues, whites, and purples.

The make up jobs in the film are great. At first I wasn't too taken with them, I thought it looked odd. But once I started getting into the film, I found the make up enhanced the scenes, the color schemes and the mood created. The cast is made up to match their outfits and the outfits are made to match the sets.

There is great use of lighting and backlighting in the film to enhance the scenes. For instance, the metal shop scene is bathed in green light, which when on the smoke gives the whole set a warm green glow. In the hospital scene, the white wall panels are backlit with cast members behind having sex so their shadows show through.

The music used in the film is excellent. The rich robust soundtrack is not your typical porn music track. The music pumps you up for the upcoming scene. My only complaint about it was the score cries out for a 5.1 mix, the rest of the audio in the film could have been in a standard 2.0 Stereo mix, maybe Private will start doing this at some time in the future. Some decent, but brief, computer animation in the very beginning of the film works well when the bugs on the extermination sign run off.

After all this, we haven't even gotten into the sex yet. The sex, as is the case with most of Private's films, is nasty and definitely isn't for viewers who like tame sex. There is also a heavy emphasis on anal sex, as Private is known for. Viewers who like a nice long sex scene will be pleased as the sex scenes presented here are long. The cast is good looking, not as good as I have seen in some Private films, but nothing to complain about either. Viewers with an affinity for leather, latex and nasty sex will be in utter bliss with this film. The sexual themes in the film are oral, vaginal and anal sex with leather, latex, DP, anal and vaginal fingering, anilingus, lesbianism, strap-ons, and female masturbation. For viewers who care about such things, there are no condoms used in the film.

The end result is a film that is as much an art film as it is an adult film. Nothing in the film detracts from the finished product and much of it adds to the final product although this is definitely not a film for all tastes. If you like something a little less than normal, this is the film for you.

The Money Shot:
The Sexterminators succeeds on many different levels resulting in a well-made adult film. This film is a visual and audio treat to the more adventurous adult film viewer. Viewers who require a complex plot or tamer sex will definitely want to pass on this title. Viewers who like nastier sex and enjoy strange films will find this film to be a gem. If the film sounds good but you are worried about not liking it, definitely rent it, if it sounds good and you aren't worried then this is a definite item for purchase.
