Pin-Ups 2 (Studio A) Review

Initial Expectations: From what I’ve seen, Andrew Blake makes some of the most artistic porn out there. I’ve got high expectations.

Initial Reaction: Wow. It’s beautiful, artistic, and very erotic.

Audio /Video Quality: The picture is so clear that I wasn’t sure if it was even shot on film. To my knowledge, Blake always shoots on film, so this DVD shows that porn shot on film doesn’t have to look grainy. There are almost no sex sounds in the audio. There is a voice over in some parts of the movie which is very clear.

Music: The music varies from the Ave Maria to techno. It fits the scenes and, like everything else, is very well done.

Review: As with most of Andrew Blake’s films, there isn’t much plot. Even saying that much might be stretching the amount of plot in Pin-Ups 2 . Instead there’s more of a general theme. Yes. Pin Up girls. The movie follows that theme quite good and is edited to match. The opening montage is three scenes spliced together. One scene has Temptress masturbating with a vibrator, one with Dita and Anita, and one with Inari and Dale. It moves fairly quickly between the scenes and splices them all together pretty well. By the end of the scene you know exactly what you’re going to be watching. The rest of the movie doesn’t change as often as the opening scene, but it’s still not going to be what most people expect.

As with most of Mr. Blake’s films, there’s not much male / female sex. In this case, Inari is the only lady to take a cock. Needless to say, there’s a lot of lesbian and solo sex. The lesbian sex is split pretty evenly between couple and group sex. There’s also very few scenes that don’t have any masturbation in them. Although this can get boring, Mr. Blake is creative enough with his scenarios that it doesn’t seem redundant. He does this some by altering the style of the scene and some by altering the format of the scene. Both black and white and color scenes are used as well as full and wide screen formats for the scenes.

A lot of the eroticism in Pin-Ups 2 is due to the costumes, sets, and props. Corsets are frequently worn by the ladies in many different colors. The corsets often match the feel of the scene. The bedrooms in several of the scenes have a 1950s or film noir feeling to them. I couldn’t help but be reminded of L. A. Confidential when thinking about it. The toys also aren’t your standard shapes. Temptress’s vibrator in the opening scene is the only standard shaped toy. There’s fairly frequent use of a transparent butt-plug shaped dildo as well as a curved dildo which is very unique. All of these are perfectly normal compared to the pair of dildo shoes. Yes. You read that right. It’s a black platform shoe with a dildo for a heel. Anybody who has a foot fetish and likes toys is sure to love it. Everybody else will at least have their curiosity piqued.

Dita and Anita Blonde are the true stars of the feature and both appear in almost every scene. Anita has been around for quite a while, both in European and American porn. She is a gorgeous blonde (who’d a thunk it?) who holds very little back. She seems to have an uncanny ability to know exactly where the camera is at almost every moment.

Dita was new to me. The cover states she’s an international fetish supermodel, so others might recognize her. She has dark hair and a light complexion. Every time I saw her I couldn’t help but think of her as a Tina Tyler wannabe. As with Tina, Dita seems to be a very good actress. It’s hard to tell anybody’s acting abilities with a feature like this, but her performance in the B&D scene with really stood out. When it was time for her punishment from Anita and Nina she looked genuinely scared. The scene was done very tastefully, but the fear in her eyes made me a little uncomfortable.

Fans of Temptress and Inari might be disappointed if they’re looking for a feature which gives either of these lovely ladies the spotlight. Temptress is great in the scenes she’s in, but the scenes are extremely short. The opening scene with her masturbating with the a vibrator is very good. The other has her as one of Anita’s captors who doesn’t have any real sexual contact with her.

Inari is advertised as being in two female / male scenes, but they’re not much more than Temptress’s scenes. The first is in the opening montage and the second is part of the upskirt scene (which focuses mostly on Anita) where Inari and Dale have sex in front of a TV. They’re both good scenes but suffer from the editing. In neither scene do you ever really get a good shot of Dale. Sadly, this is all Inari is used in Pin-Ups 2 . It would have been great to see her with Anita.

Finally, there’s Nina and Regina, who seem like matches to Anita and Dita. Nina is a new blonde and Regina is a dark haired beauty. They’re frequently paired with Anita and Dita in a supporting fashion. Both do a great job and I expect that we’ll see much more from them in the future.

The premise of Pin-Ups 2 is a double edged sword. It’s a great idea, as you can do almost anything and most people would rather watch extremely beautiful women rather than clowns and people dressed up as hot dogs. The problem comes in when the premise is followed a little too closely. We never get to follow a scene all the way through. Any time a scene starts to build some steam, we’re switched to another scene or maybe even two scenes before we return to the original scene we were getting into. It’s kind of like looking at a porno magazine in a strong wind. You see a lot of beautiful pictures, but before you can fully appreciate it the wind blows the pages so you see something else. Luckily there’s a lot of beautiful pictures.

Extras: A photo gallery. It contains about twenty pictures and they’re done well. The extras are very lacking and is the biggest problem with this DVD. There isn’t even a bio section, which would have been very nice as almost anybody who watches an Andrew Blake movie will want to see more.

Overall: Currently, Pin-Ups 2 can be found online for between $23 and $32 with many retailers offering it for under $25. If you’re looking for something a little different or at all interested in it for any other reason, pick it up! Although it’s shy on extras, and the total DVD lasts maybe 90 minutes, it’s better than most other releases out there.

Note to Studio A: As great of movies as you appear to release, your DVDs lack a little by your absence of extras. Trailers for other Studio A Releases and bios of some of the stars would be really nice on your DVDs and raise them up to the average extra quantity on adult DVDs.
