Initial Expectations: Roy Karch always brings to mind words like nap, dud, wasted potential, and boring, so I’m not expecting much here.

Initial Reaction: There’s some decent moments, but most of it’s a dud.

Audio /Video Quality: The audio is clear and well balanced without any background noises for the most part. There are a few areas where somebody tried adding artistic effects to the audio which makes it interfere with the movie in a big way. The video has a slightly soft feel, and a hint of grain. It’s normally well lit, but there are a few areas where some artistic effects are once again attempted, and instead interfere with the video.

Music: The music is normally very well balanced with the rest of the audio, but has a soft jazz feel that borders on elevator music and brings down virtually every scene.

Disc Problems / Complaints: There’s no time stamp throughout the DVD, which always ticks me off. Without a time stamp you’re limited to jumping to chapter breaks rather than to any individual spot in the movie. From what I understand, except for certain circumstances, a time stamp takes next to zero cost or effort. Due to this belief, a DVD almost always feels shoddy without a time stamp.

Menus: The main menu is nicely animated, while the chapter menu is very typical and lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and a scene number.

The Feature: Shayla LaVeaux and Joel Lawrence go to a resort they used to frequent on their second honeymoon. While on their own, Shayla bumps into Mike Horner and Joel bumps into Lezley Zen, a couple they both used to know very well. They bumble around trying to find each other so the four of them can catch up. Meanwhile, other couples around them fuck. If it doesn’t sound like much of a plot, you’re right.

Unlike almost every other Roy Karch movie I’ve watched, this one doesn’t start out with a slow motion softcore sex scene. Instead, it starts with Steve Hatcher licking Brittney Skye’s pussy in a hot tub beneath Shayla LaVeaux and Joel Lawrence’s deck. Brittney reciprocates with some very nice head before turning around for Steve to nail her doggie style. They move out of the tub for some missionary work before he blows his ball butter across her big fat titties. I want to think of this as an above average scene, since Steve puts in some great energy and Brittney looks like she’s really into it, but I just couldn’t get into it that much. The camera frequently went to close-ups I didn’t care for, such as getting so close during the blowjob that you couldn’t even see all of Brittney’s head. This ended up being a pretty average scene for me.

Shayla LaVeaux flashes back to a time when she and Lezley Zen were very close. The girls passionately kiss, explore each other’s body, and undress, before sixty-nining. They take turns eating each other before breaking out a couple dildos so Shayla can fuck Lezley’s pussy and then get it in the ass. It finally ends by apparently running out of video, which seemed to be the final insult for this mangled scene. It seemed to be going for a slow and artistic feel, but this time rather than just holding the scene back it ruined it. Lezley and Shayla seemed to be into each other very well, but the smoke, candles, and camera work that was attempting to be artistic all held it back for me. This time, there was even a fair amount of obvious slow motion, which always holds back scenes for me, as well as some deliberate echoing with the audio. By the time it got through the sixty-nining I was bored stiff, and went for the fast forward button out of self defense. Hopefully if Shayla and Lezley see how Roy Karch ruined this scene they find the toys, hunt down Roy Karch, and turn them on him.

Michelle St. James and Johnny Saint, who some might recognize from Real Deal Amateurs: Real Naughty Wives and Girlfriends, get busy after Joel Lawrence walks by them. Johnny and Michelle energetically exchange oral favors before fucking missionary style. Surprisingly, missionary is the only position used in the scene, but Michelle does take it both in her pussy and ass before getting her facial. This is a much better scene than its predecessor. It’s pretty straightforward, and although Michelle isn’t the easiest on the eyes, she does seem to really like sex.

Mickey G. tries to satisfy nymphomaniac Autumn Haze on a fake fur rug in front of a fireplace next. They take time working each other over orally before Autumn climbs on Mickey’s cock for a little cowgirl action and then rolls onto her back for some missionary work. Finally, Autumn takes Mickey’s nutty goodness across her tongue and cheek. As usual, although Mickey and Autumn seemed to be into each other pretty good, the camera work didn’t let me enjoy it nearly as much as they did.

Lezley Zen and Mike Horner get busy on their bed after the two couples give up on trying to find each other and go back to their respective cabins. This is easily one of the best scenes in the feature, as Lezley and Mike both really seem to be having a lot of fun. They put some nice energy into it as well, and if not for the limited positions for the length of the scene, this would have ended up as a very good scene.

Finally, Joel Lawrence and Shayla LaVeaux get busy after an unseen dinner with Mike and Lezley. They exchange oral favor while looking like they’re really enjoying themselves before going at it doggie style and missionary, and finish things up with a pop on Shayla’s stomach. This one comes close to Mike and Lezley’s scene due to some nice chemistry, but the camera work held it back once again.

Once again, Roy Karch swings and doesn’t quite hit the ball with Pillow Talk. Much of the blame here is the plot. It’s kinda cute, but is stretched so far beyond where it should go that before the movie was even half over it became so annoying that I started to hate the movie. Daytime soap operas know when to abandon a bad plot line better than Roy Karch does here! The sex also isn’t the best. There’s some very good chemistry, but so much holds it back that most of it doesn’t stand a chance. To begin with, the positions are so limited here that it often becomes boring due to the length of the scenes. The camera work also leaves a bit to be desired by seeming a little off during close-ups, and is further hurt by some artistic attempts, and I use the word “attempts” very, very loosely. Pillow Talk should be lucky to get an ear’s attention, as it probably won’t capture the interest of many other body parts.

Extras: Adam & Eve has put together a nice selection of extras here. Trailers are included for Emerald Rain, The Fiesta, Sex Spell, and Taboo of Tarot. Bios are included for Shayla LaVeaux, Lezley Zen, Autumn Haze, Brittney Skye, Joel Lawrence, Mike Horner, Mickey G., and Steve Hatcher, each of which has a little personal information and a photo of the star. The photo gallery features about twenty very nice looking snapshots. There’s also weblinks, a bonus scene, and a behind the scenes featurette.

The bonus scene comes from The Edge and features Ava Vincent, John Decker, Chloe, and Ian Daniels. After greeting Ava and Chloe at the door, butlers John and Ian start to take care of some of the girls needs. Ian licks Chloe’s feet and plays with her pussy a bit while Ava sucks John’s cock. The behind the scenes featurette is shot by Sindee Coxx and lasts about twenty minutes. There’s some nice interviews with the female cast, including Autumn Haze as she checks out an oil leak on Sindee’s car. You also get a bit of the still photos being shot and the cast preparing for their scenes with Roy Karch. It’s a pretty average behind the scenes featurette that nicely brings in a bit of Sindee’s personality while also letting you see a bunch of the personality of the performers and the movie being made.

Overall: Currently, most of Adam & Eve’s regular DVDs can be found online for between $10 and $22, with many stores offering them for under $15. Rent this one before you buy it, as I can’t see it getting much replay value. The movie misses much more than it hits, although the DVD does have decent technical aspects and extras.

Note to Adam & Eve: It’s nice to see you trying to make a well rounded DVD.
