The Movie |
Palm Springs Girls is an absolute mess of a movie that appears at one point in time to have been destined to be a feature movie. What exactly ended up happening to the production to turn it into this mess isn't exactly known but likely an inexperienced director and producer with no budget and no knowledge of adult movie making were at fault.
As previously stated, at one point this movie appears to have been scripted and within the movie are segments of that concept. Masters student Chip Overland is doing video interviews in Palm Springs for his thesis on whether sorority girls are aggressive. His subject du jour is the Gamma Gamma Head house. This is mixed in with footage of what I am assuming is supposed to be the Gamma Gamma Head house, a sparsely decorated house, where the female cast members are randomly dancing and sexually engaging with each other. The majority of this footage has no live audio, just a horrifically annoying 80s style adult movie music that plays. Within this house they also sexually engage with Chip and at one point apparently his father. Most of this footage is also devoid of any dialog or anything besides bad music. The almost random seeming house footage, which comes and goes throughout the movie, takes up most of the run time and often features cast members attempting to dance to a different song then the audience is being subjected to.
It doesn't appear that anyone involved in the production actually knew how to make an adult movie, nor had they thought anything out ahead of time from all appearances. Sex scene footage is liberally reused to lengthen the run time of the movie, even though the exact same footage had already been used earlier in the production. There is one point where a towel is thrown at a female cast member to use as a pillow during a sex scene. The movie is horrifically shot and abysmally edited. The sex scenes fail to generate any interest. Honestly, this movie isn't worth watching at all for any reason.
The Edition |
Classic X Collection has done a horrible job with this release. Palm Springs Girls is presented in the academy ratio of 1.33:1 in 480i. Palm Springs Girls appears to have been shot on video and appears to have been mastered off of an old, and in very poor shape, VHS tape, making the actual resolution most likely 250i. The transfer is a mess sporting a horrible picture with glitches in the video, a lack of resolution, and haloing. Colors are a complete mess, never do they appear natural. The colors shift in bands on the screen and the colors are often very off in places (For instance grass looks neon green and there are times that flesh colors are a bright pink.). The screen is way too dark in many places and way to bright in others. There are several points where the whole screen turns purple and green. The presentation is essentially unwatchable.
Palm Springs Girls is presented with an English Dolby Digital 2.0 monaural audio track. The track is not horrible and not great. It sounds poor but that is most likely the way the film has always sounded. The dialog isn't always clear but you get the gist of what is being said.
Classic X Collection hasn't included any extras on this release.
Final Thoughts |
Honestly, I can think of no reason why anybody should subject themselves to the atrocity that is called Palm Springs Girls. This mid-80s movie was clearly made by people who had no experience in adult movie making and no real plan on how they were going to tie what they shot together. This movie quickly becomes a torturous task to watch. Classic X Collection has done a horrible job with the release of Palm Springs Girls as well with a transfer that fights to be worse than the original production was. Don't waste your money or time on this.
