| Prologue I do not usually view features. Even though I cut my porn teeth on the classics of the 70's, I've felt for the longest time that their day was done, and they weren't being made with the filmmaking craft of their predecessors, or the raw sexuality available in "gonzo". As we approached the last quarter of 2006, there was a trio of films being released that I found compelling by virtue of subject matter and/or boundaries being pushed, or impeccable pedigree. This video is a re-imagination of "The Story of O", an erotic classic novel that delves into the S&M scene. The producers, Nina Hartley and Ernest Greene, are sex advocates that live the lifestyle, and as we all know, Nina is a hall of fame performer. I feel like this will be an honest attempt at capturing the feel of the original story, even if comprimises have to be made due to finances and government interference. The fact that Adam and Eve are the distributors also makes the casting decisions a little tricky, ergo Carmen Luvana as O. It remains to be seen if she can pull this off, but from what I've seen of her, she's an articulate spokesperson for the company and very aware of her sexiness and ability to broadcast it. This all remains to be seen, but I'm very hopeful. |

are introduced to O (Carmen Luvana), an erotic photographer,

| Epilogue While this video didn't turn out to be everything I anticipated, it was both entertainingly erotic and compelling. There was a lot of ambition and affinity for the subject matter on the part of director Greene, but I think it came out a little glossier than he might have intended or realized. He played it safe with his casting decision of Carmen Luvana in the lead, and again in the depictions of her flogging. And as we all knoe, Carmen requires condoms in her scenes. Still, she brought some glamor and an extreme sexiness to the role that sufficiently offset the negatives for me. I think that the production desperately needed a foundation scene between Carmen and Tommie Gunn to rationalize her alleged obsession with him, because, to be honest, he came off like a drug dealing pimp in his portrayal of Ray. He just doesn't have the look or articulation for me to accept him as a magnetic personality just because it was written that way. Seemed like we got Tony Montana when we needed James Bond. It Greene really wanted to take this to the edge a little more, the casting of someone like Melissa Lauren as O, and Manuel Ferrara as Ray, would probably have hit the sweet spot. It also could have brought them to France where the original tome was set. And since this was a re-imagining of the novel, as opposed to a faithful rendition, I would have liked to have seen more variation in the fetish. Nipple clamps and hot was come immediately to mind.
