The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects leave a bit to be desired. The audio is okay through Nina’s portions of the movie, but there’s a hiss in the background the entire time. Also, during Violet’s scenes there’s a lot of background noises, including the stars being given direction and responding to it verbally. The video is more than a little soft through all of the movie, and the lighting gives both shadows and bleached out colors.

Music: None

Menus: The main menu is nicely done, and works together a nice shot of Nina with some good animation. The chapter menu also shows some nice effort, and lets you choose a scene based on a small clip from each scene, a cast listing from the scene, and a word or two to let you know what’s going on in the scene.

The Feature

Nina starts out with Nicole Sheridan in black fetishwear on a black couch. They talk about threesomes with two guys, starting with threesomes with two guys being more common. They talk about things such as an unwilling partner as well as being open with your desires. They also talk about some fears relating to threeways and how to avoid some common problems. Finally, they give a few things to keep in mind as you experiment with threesomes.

Scene 1 - Nina Hartley, Randy Spears, and Chris Cannon

Nina talks about some of what one might expect with a threeway as Randy and Chris play with her tits and pussy. They work the oral love all around , with Chris starting out on Nina and Randy taking over to make sure that no hole goes untouched. Nina turns things around to pleasure both of them orally, and move on with the classic doggie position with a cock in each end. This is a pretty good scene. Nina and the guys have great chemistry, and Nina does a nice job stopping things to add a little instructional insight. There’s just two things that held the scene back for me. First, stopping the scene to add the instructional insight just didn’t work that well for me because it had the scene end halfway between enjoyable and instructional. I know that those two shouldn’t be mutually exclusive, but they did interfere with each other quite a bit here. The second is that the scene felt overly tame. Yes, some of this is probably due to the instructional insight, but it also felt like it was being held back at times. This is an okay scene, but it just didn’t work too well for me in any particular way.

Scene 2 - Violet Blue, Julian, and Evan Stone

After starting with a friendly pool game, Violet, Evan, and Julian, who are all decked out in black, get a little friendlier over the pool table. Violet and Evan kiss on her upper lips while Julian goes for the lower set from behind. Evan moves down to suck her tits, and soon after Violet’s lying back on the table with him tonging and fingering her pussy while she sucks Julian’s joystick. Evan joins in for a little knob gobbling, and keeps getting it polished as Violet rides Julian cowgirl style. This is a slightly above average scene. There’s nice chemistry between Violet and the guys, and they all seem like they’re having a great time throughout the entire scene. There’s plenty of energy through the scene, and Violet never seems the least bit uncomfortable. Unfortunately, the feel of the scene varied a little, and it started out a little rough for me with the generic pool table scene. Pool tables are a wonderful thing, but I think I’ve seen ten times more pool table scenes than pizza boy type scenes. This is a pretty good scene, but nothing overly special.

Nina Hartley’s Guide to Threesomes: Two Guys and a Girl is an okay instructional feature. Nina and Nicole go over things pretty well at the start, and do a nice job of covering the bases. Nina also does a nice job through her instructional scene demonstrating things. She’s nicely met by Violet Blue, who turns out a very nice scene without the instructional nature. That said, this one just didn’t make it too much part the average mark for me. Part of this is the technical aspects, which were more than a little weak. The other part was that it had such a soft and cliched feel that nothing about it really felt special. Yes, Nina does have a couple good tips at the start of the movie, but at the same time they seemed like they could have been wrapped up in under five minutes. Wrapping an entire movie, albeit a short one, around five minutes of tips seems to stretch things way too far for my tastes, and I was more than a little distracted throughout the entire movie. Is

Nina Hartley’s Guide to Threesomes: Two Guys and a Girl a bad movie? No, because if you’re interested in this sort of thing and extremely nervous I think it’s a great movie to watch. If you’re at ease with the idea, however, I think you might be more than a little disappointed with it.

The Extra Stuff

The photo gallery lasts nearly seven minutes with about five seconds per very nice looking snapshot. An interview is included with Nina Hartley as well as a behind the scenes featurette. Trailers are included for At Your Service, Sex Across America 12, 2 of a Kind, Dirty Girlz Vol. 1, Kung Pow!, and Racer X. Finally, there’s also a bonus scene and weblinks.

The interview with Nina lasts about fifteen minutes. Nina talks about her first experiences with two guys at the same time and her most memorable threesomes with two guys. She also talks about what she thinks makes a really successful threesome with two guys and what the guys should say to make her more comfortable for a threesome. She also talks about pornography and its effect on threesomes in real life. It’s a nice interview, and my only complaint about it is that you can barely hear Ernest Greene asking Nina the questions.

The behind the scenes featurette lasts a whopping thirty six minutes, and is shared between both of Nina Hartley’s Threesome features. Nina starts things out talking about how long she’s been doing instructional movies as well as being a little disheartened that so many people still need her guides thirty years after the sexual revolution. Randy talks about some of the things that can go wrong between guys on a threeway shoot before Julian talks about not caring for threeway scenes. Violet is next, who talks about Burning Man and having both a husband and boyfriend. Evan Stone follows up Violet with a few wardrobe problems before Nicole Sheridan talks about how picky she is with guys and threesomes. Nicole and Mike Tan get a little wardrobe help next, before Shy tries to end a little wardrobe confusion and talks about her role in the movie. Finally, Nina talks about Ernest, the movie, and her regrets. It’s a nice behind the scenes featurette, and goes far beyond most behind the scenes featurettes. If you enjoyed the movie, this one’s well worth checking out.

Bonus Scene - Julia Ann and Julian

The bonus scene comes from Sex Magician. Julian kisses his way up Julia’s great leg (not that the other one is that bad), before giving her pussy a few quick licks. Currently, many of Nina Hartley’s educational DVDs can be found online for between about $8 and $25 with several stores offering them for around $15. At the low end this one might be a decent buy. The action is okay, but there’s nothing too special about it. There’s some nice effort put into the extras, but the technical aspects leave a bit to be desired. This is an okay movie on a pretty well done DVD.

Note to Adam & Eve / Nina Hartley: A little more attention to the technical aspects would be very nice on your instructional releases.
