Initial Expectations: I’m not sure why, but I have a bit of hope here.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are pretty good. The audio is pretty clear, but the balance is sometimes off a little, there’s a slight hiss in the background, and there’s sometimes a bit of a hollow sound to the audio. The video is pretty good. It’s nicely lit, but there is a little grain and a slightly soft feel.

Music: None

Menus: The menus are okay. The main menu looks nice and has a little animation to help it out. The chapter menu also shows a little extra care by letting you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and the name of the participants in each scene.

The Feature

Nina Hartley’s back with more information for the sexually curious. This time she’s going to cover erotic spanking. Of course she’s brought a few friends along, so Kylie Ireland, Audrey Hollander, and Otto Bauer do what they can to help with a few demonstrations.

Scene 1 - Nina Hartley and Kylie Ireland

Nina and Kylie start with a long talk about erotic spanking, how it differs from other types of spanking, and their personal spanking likes and dislikes. Nina reminds that spanking is just a lead-in to sex, and slowly caresses Kylie before taking her over her knee. She demonstrates some of the techniques while reminding the viewer to mix in caressing, different intensities, and different textures. This is an excellent scene! The educational part of the scene is done very well. Kylie and Nina show great chemistry throughout the scene, and both look like they’re having a lot of fun with it. The fun feeling and chemistry keeps going through the rest of the scene, and Nina and Kylie do a great job of mixing it up. The spanking is a big part of the scene, but it never feels like the only thing in the scene. Just as Nina talked in the educational part, it’s a type of foreplay and it’s treated as such very well here. This is an extremely hot scene, and definitely does a great job of demonstrating spanking.

Scene 2 - Audrey Hollander and Otto Bauer

They both put quite a bit into the scene, looking like they’re having a lot of fun as well as putting some very nice energy into the scene. Everything about the scene works well, and I couldn’t help but love it.

Nina Hartley’s Guide to Spanking is an excellent feature for anybody interested in erotic spanking. Nina does a great job starting things out informatively, and then nicely mixes in a few demonstrations with Kylie as they talk about it. The scenes are done just as well, and do a great job showing what Nina talks about. I had some problems with the sex in Nina’s earlier educational features because the scenes didn’t really have anything to do with the subject. That’s all changed here. There’s several types of paddles used, and the spanking is used as part of the foreplay as well as the actual sex. Just as impressive is that the scenes show some extraordinary chemistry. Although there’s only two scenes in the movie, I think the sex here is more satisfying than what I’ve seen in some movies lasting over two hours. It’s good enough that I think experienced spankers and spankees will enjoy it just as much as those who are curious and who’ve just started looking for a clue on spanking. The only complaint I can really have about the entire movie is some of the camera work. The editing is a bit rough at a couple spots in the movie, and there’s occasionally a hollow spot that makes it a little difficult to hear the dialogue. Thankfully, those are very minor complaints and they shouldn’t hold anybody back from checking out Nina Hartley’s Guide to Spanking. Nina Hartley’s Guide to Spanking is easily one of the best educational features I’ve seen, and something I’d highly recommend to anybody interested in erotic spanking be they a beginner or an expert.

The Extra Stuff

The photo gallery lasts nearly three and a half minutes with about five seconds per very nice looking snapshot or full screen photo. There’s also an interview with Nina Hartley, a behind the scenes featurette, and a bonus scene.

The interview lasts nearly fifteen minutes, and features Ernest Greene asking Nina the questions. They talk about why Nina decided to do this subject now, her spanking experiences, and that she had a spanking related nickname for many years. Nina also talks about Kylie Ireland, what she looks for in a spanking partner, and Audrey and Otto’s scene. She even talks a little about politics and spanking. It’s a nice interview, and my only complaint is that Ernest is really hard to hear most of the time, and very hollow sounding.

The behind the scenes footage lasts about seventeen minutes and includes bonus footage from Nina Hartley’s Guide to Double Penetration. You get to see quite a bit of the scene preparation for each of the movies, as well as some of the fun and screwing around between scenes. Each of the cast members get some nice screen time, as does director Ernest Greene. Audrey Hollander and Otto Bauer are easily the standouts here, and their story of getting into the business makes the entire feature (which is enjoyable anyway) worthwhile. This is a very nice behind the scenes featurette.

Bonus Scene - Allysin Chaynes and Joey Ray

At that price this one’s well worth checking out if you’re interested in spanking. There’s some nice scenes as well as a nice talk on spanking. The technical aspects are pretty good, and there’s some nice effort put into the extras. This is a very nice DVD.
