Initial Expectations: I know a lot of people love Jim Powers’ movies, but so far he hasn’t done much for me. Supposedly this is a good one, but I just can’t get too excited for it.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are pretty good. The audio is very nicely balanced and clear. I don’t think I heard a single thing that detracted from the movie. The video is a bit weaker. It’s pretty well lit but does have a few inconsistencies. It also comes off a bit soft and fuzzy at times if you look at details such as the outfits on the girls.

Music: There’s a bit of music during the tease segments, but that’s about all. It has a standard porn feel to it, but works pretty good for the movie.

Menus: The main menu is pretty good, and blends a nice style with a style of one of the girls and several clips from the movie. The chapter menu keeps the style, but then generically lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and a scene number. After you choose a scene, you’re allowed to choose where in the scene you want to go sexually, but still not told who’s in it.

The Feature

New Whores 2 is a nicely impressive “fresh talent” feature. I know this one’s been out a bit, but at the same time I don’t think many of the girls here were too much of fresh talent at the time. Jim Powers does do a good job with the opening setups for each scene, and I really like how he interviewed them through the makeup chair as well as the humor in picking up the girls and some of the questions. The photo shoot was also a nice touch that gave each scene a nice bit of tease. As for the sex, I don’t think there was an average scene in the bunch. Each scene had some very nice energy and chemistry, but Delilah and Myah’s scene was probably my favorite. If there’s a complaint to be made here, I think one could argue that Jim Powers’ style can be as much a curse as a blessing. It’s a nice relief to see somebody want to just capture the sex nice and straightforward, but there were quite a few times when the camera seemed to focus on the penetration a bit much for my tastes and where I wanted a few different angles. New Whores 2 keeps things simple and with a bit of humor, and it works with very good results here.

Currently, many of Mayhem’s DVDs can be found for between about $13 and $25 with many stores offering them under $20. This is a pretty good price for what you get here. The sex is straightforward but nicely done and the technical aspects aren’t too bad. There’s even a fair amount of effort put into the extras. This is a well put together DVD.

Note to Mayhem: A little effort towards your video quality could be a nice thing.
