Initial Expectations: Mike Metropolis has been making some great movies for Smash. I look forward to everything he puts out.

Initial Reaction: There’s some very hot sex, but the style didn’t work too well for me.

Who Should Watch It : Anybody who wonders if editing is really needed for porn or who wants to see behind the curtain

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody who wants their scenes clear, clean, and to the point.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are pretty good. The audio is a bit problematic due to the style of the movie. Much of the action is well balanced, but there is also a fair amount of hollow audio, a few background noises such as noises from the still cameras and things being bumped, and a few comments which are easily heard from Mike Metropolis behind the camera. The technical aspects are pretty well done. There’s a hint of pixelation, but the action is nicely lit.

Music: None

Menus: The main menu is pretty well done, and combines a bit of the boxcover, a little of the movie, and a nice “road” animation that goes well with the title. The chapter menu is very nicely done as well, and lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and the name of the girl in it. There’s also a positions menu which lets you go directly to specific sex acts such as blow jobs, doggy style, or cumshots.

No cuts, no edits, and no plot. Once the scene starts, it’s not supposed to stop for anything including editing out the crew.

Scene 1 - Ava Rose and Sascha

The cuts stood out like a sore thumb here, and with Mike being much quieter here than in the other scenes it just didn’t fit with the rest of the movie as well. Joey turns out a great DP, but this scene had a few stylistic problems.

The nonstop nature of Moving Violations had me curious going in, and although there was plenty of hot sex here, the style of the movie just didn’t work too well for me due to the unedited nature of it. I’ll readily admit that I like to watch sex that flows nicely and is clean and focused on the performers. I really don’t want to hear the director tell the performers what to do or to hear the discussion between them about what they should do next. I don’t need to see anal accidents, guys jerking off to stay hard, or to hear girls crying out in pain when a cock doesn’t hit her right. Those things are what sets Moving Violations apart from the typical porno, and it’s not a style that I care to see much of again. There are times I don’t want to get a peek behind the curtain at the Great and Powerful Oz. That said, the style didn’t seem completely fixed as almost every scene had cuts. I think Mia’s scene was cut-free, but hers was the only one. Most of the others only had a cut or two in them, but Joey’s DP had so many cuts that it started to lose the feel of the movie and instead came off as a sloppily done scene. That said, I can’t deny that there’s some hot sex here. The sex in every scene impressed me, with the girls all being nicely energetic and almost all of them being nicely vocal. They’re good enough that I couldn’t help but wish that the movie had been edited. I like the continual idea, but I think having a minimum of cuts with a one camera movie where the crew was edited out of the audio would make a much better movie and would have left me much more satisfied with the sex. In the end, Moving Violations has a great female cast which I hope to see much more of in the future, but the style of the movie held back the sex from being as hot as it might have been if it were edited.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many Smash DVDs can be found online for between $14 and $24 with most stores offering them in the $20 range. I’d aim for the low end here unless you’re a fan of movies with the unedited style, in which case this one might be worth the big bucks to you. The sex is hot, but the unedited style didn’t work too well for me. The technical aspects show some decent care, but due to the movie running nearly three and a half hours there’s no real effort put into the extras. This is a pretty well done DVD.

Note to Smash Pictures: It’s good to see you trying something different, and I can’t help but think that doing a movie like this should be able to help you tighten up some of your other movies as well.
