Initial Expectations: Knob Ryder never impressed me with their DVDs, but I’ve heard they’ve been trying to improve things. A cast like this makes me willing to give them another chance.

Audio /Video Quality: The audio leaves more than a little to be desired. It’s frequently scratchy, the balance changes often, and there’s some noticeable background noises. Surprisingly, the video isn’t too bad. It’s fairly clear with some minor grain, and has some nice and even lighting.

Music: The music is just as cheesy as most people think porno music is. It’s also on the loud side, and interferes with many of the scenes.

Disc Problems / Complaints: There’s no time stamp at any point in the DVD. This always makes a DVD feel extremely cheap to me, as from what I understand almost all authoring equipment allows it to be done with a minimal amount of effort. There’s also no way out of the photo gallery without jumping randomly to a chapter, as it restarts automatically and there’s no title menu listed on the DVD. These problems are sloppy enough that I’m deducting a half point from the overall score of the DVD. Since I was torn on the overall rating, going with the lower rating to deduct it from, I guess you might say I deducted three quarters of a point.

Menus: The menus are so cheesy and laughably simple and bad that they somehow work. The chapter menu lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene.

The Feature: Let’s see. There’s a motel that’s about to get inspected, which means lots of girls in maid’s outfits and plenty of beds around. Yep. It sounds like enough of a plot to make a porno around.

Maid Lezley Zen starts things out on her knees behind the front desk sucking Kyle Stone’s cock. She energetically sucks and strokes Kyle while giving him plenty of great eye contact. Kyle finally pops on Lezley’s face as she does her best baby bird impression. It’s a very good oral scene with great energy.

It’s a mix of softcore distance shots with close-up hardcore shots. I don’t think I ever saw both Stevie’s face and Brian’s cock in the same frame while they fucked. Stevie still makes it a hot scene, but it could have been much better.

Maids Dru Berrymore and Rocket take a little break from making the beds to mess one up instead. Finally, Kyle Stone shows cute blonde Calli Cox their security system, complete with a monitor for the cameras located in each room. Calli gets a little turned on seeing what the patrons do in their rooms, and turns the inspection a bit more personal. The camera work also seemed to like close-ups a bit more in this scene, which didn’t do much for me.

Motel 69 is a surprisingly hot movie, although it does have its share of problems. The camera work and editing leave a bit to be desired, as its rare in some scenes to see both the penetration and the actress’ reaction as she’s getting fucked. It also feels a bit claustrophobic at times, with the camera cutting off the head of the lady in the scene or the penetration while instead showing a wide view of the ceiling and wall above her. It’s really too bad since there’s some dang hot sex here! Thankfully the lighting problems that used to plague Knob Ryder’s features seem to have disappeared. Sadly there isn’t much of Lezley Zen here, but Stevie, Dru Berrymore, and Kelly Fire all turn in some darn hot performances. Motel 69 is a good porno, despite a few problems.

Extras: The photo gallery lasts about two and a half minutes with about ten seconds per photo. The photos vary from pretty darn good to slightly below average. The outtakes and behind the scenes footage are all rolled into one six and a half minute featurette. Much of the footage has the time and date stamp on it from the video camera, which gives it a bit of a cheaper feel. There’s some nice bits with many of the cast members, which makes it worth checking out.

Overall: Currently, Motel 69 can be found online for between $18 and $25 with most stores offering it at the bottom end. This is a bit high for what you get here, although I would say it’s definitely worth a rent when you’re in the mood for a brainless porno feature. The sex is hot despite some of the camera work and editing, the technical aspects aren’t too bad, and there is some decent extra footage. Sadly, the DVD is authored very poorly, which holds the whole DVD back.

Note to Knob-Ryder: You’ve made some great progress from where you were a year or so ago, but there’s still some obvious things that need changing on your DVDs. This felt slopped together and I’d say is even below the standards put up for government workers. Spend some time on decent menus, including a title menu on the DVD that people can jump to with the menu button! It’s the first thing people see and gives them the first impression of your product. People like skipping around in DVDs, so include a time stamp! Finally, include a few more chapter stops. At the very least, people like one for the setup, one for the sex, and one for the pop, and a few more breaks during the sex is more than fine. You’re showing some good potential here, so now start polishing things up a bit.
