Initial Reaction: It's an amazing mix of sex and style that's well worth checking out. You can even skip renting this one and just go buy it without any fears.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are great. The audio is clear and well balanced, and I didn't notice a single background noise. The video is presented in anamorphic widescreen, and looks great. There's some very nice care put into the lighting, which varies a little throughout the movie depending on the location of the scene. There's just a touch of grain to the presentation, and it's nicely smooth without any inappropriate camera motion. This is a great looking and sounding movie.

Music: The music is excellent, and shows a lot of care. It's very well balanced with the rest of the audio, and varies nicely in style bringing in music that seems like it came right from the thirties as well as a bit of modern style.

Menus: The main menu adds a few flashes to the excellent boxcover for a decent first impression. The chapter menu nicely continues the style of the main menu, but then drops the ball by letting you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and a scene number rather than giving you something useful like the names of the performers in each scene.

The Feature

Brad Armstrong turns his eye to the dark side of the late twenties and thirties. Hitmen (and hitwomen), bank robbers, counterfeiters, bootleggers, and more set up the vignettes here without any plot ever rearing its head to get in the way.

Scene 1 – Jasmine Byrne, jessica drake, and Brad Armstrong

After another successful mob hit, Brad gets it on with girls jessica and Jasmine with all of them dressed to the max. The girls start off kissing with Brad between them before jessica hoists up her skirt so Brad can get a hand at her goodies. The scene is a little on the dark side, but that fits the scene and its location as well. This is a very hot scene that starts Mobster's Ball off on a very high note.

Scene 2 – Carmen Hart, Jenaveve Jolie, and Tommy Gunn

Well dressed mobsters Carmen and Jenaveve, both of whom are dressed in pinstriped suits and fedoras, give banker Tommy a little reward for his cooperation as he's tied to a chair and gagged. This is is a great scene. It has great chemistry all around as well as a great sense of style. With the attention paid to the location and costumes the scene oozes Brad Armstrong's style at its best, and that style plays into the sense of fun the girls put out. The scene moves along nicely with a great balance between the girls as well as a nice pace. This is an extremely enjoyable scene with plenty of heat.

Scene 3 – Angel Cassidy and Eric Masterson

Blonde Angel starts out the third scene in a little white lingerie and pearls enjoying a smoke as hired muscle Eric keeps watch wearing a bowler hat, wifebeater, and pants with suspenders. She plays with some of the money they're printing and soaks her lingerie to give plenty of hints of what's below before Eric moves in with a bulge in his pants for her to check out before she frees it and goes to work on it with her hands and mouth. This is another great scene. Angel looks fantastic, and really starts the scene out right with her tease. She has great chemistry with Eric, and Armstrong's style continues to be spot on. This is yet another winner of a scene.

Scene 4 – Ginger Lea, Jada Fire, Brian Pumper, and Herschel Savage

As mobster Herschel gets it on with redhead Ginger at a table, Cotton Club musicians Jada and Brian get it on onstage while other patrons watch both shows. The girls hardly get it on at all with each other, which is why I think this scene didn't work as well as the others for me, and I couldn't help but feel like Ginger wasn't at all into Jada. The swapping in the middle worked well for me, however, and once again Armstrong was right on with his artistic eye. This is a good scene, but falls back from the level Mobster's Ball was cruising at before it and ends up easily as the weakest scene in the movie.

Scene 5 – Tory Lane and Brad Armstrong

Moonshiners Brad and Tory get it on outside after sampling some of the new hooch while the still keeps working away. They kiss passionately and start groping around each other before Brad moves down to taste Tory's tits and rip open her pants to play with her holes while pouring a little of the product around. Scene 6 – Cherokee, Mia Smiles, Marco Banderas, and Randy Spears

While Cherokee and Marco shoot pool, Mia plays cards with Randy. Soon after the two couples are pairing up and helping each other strip down with Cherokee getting up on the pool table to suck Marco while Mia gives Randy a bit of a lapdance and then slides down to work him over orally. This is yet another great scene. The action is similar to the earlier scene with Ginger, Jada, Brian, and Herschel, but for some reason this scene worked much better for me. Maybe it's because Cherokee and Mia don't do a lot of scenes and rarely disappoint me or maybe it's because I just liked the style of the scene a little better and the chemistry seemed slightly stronger. Although the girls don't get into each other much, you never get a feeling like they wouldn't jump over to much away on each other's box if they had the chance. This is another very hot scene.

Scene 7 – Brooke Haven, Chris Cannon, and Randy Spears

Prison guards Chris and Randy help a well dressed loan shark Brooke into her cell, and Randy can't help but sneak a few peeks as she strips down in her cell. The action moves along at a nice pace and once again I was completely drawn into the scene. This is yet another winner of a scene.

Brad Armstrong his the bullseye with Mobster's Ball. His artistic eye is perfectly calibrated throughout the movie, and he shows some very nice creativity in the setups. The locations are very nicely mixed up, and he does a great job varying the lighting for the different scenes. Throw in the great care that's given to the costumes, and a great looking cast, and you have a visual feast. Although a lot of visual feasts that just leave you hungry for more after you find them empty inside, Mobster's Ball is every bit as satisfying sexually as it is artistically. There's great chemistry throughout the entire movie, and although Ginger, Jada, Brian, and Herschel's scene fell a little short, even it was an above average scene that was easy to recover from. Their scene was the only hiccup that kept Mobster's Ball from getting a perfect score sexually, but that shouldn't hold back anybody from checking out Mobster's Ball. Brad Armstrong blends sex and style incredibly well with Mobster's Ball, and makes this a movie that really needs to be checked out.

The Extra Stuff

Trailers are included for Mobster's Ball, Curse Eternal, Gossip, The Visitors, Just Like That, Camp Cuddly Pines Powertool Massacre, and Hook-Ups 10. In addition to a production photo gallery lasting about seven and a half minutes, star galleries are included for the entire female cast lasting between two and two and a half minutes each. In each case, you get about seven seconds per good looking snapshot or full screen photo. Star stats are included for jessica drake, Carmen Hart, Cherokee, and Jasmine Byrne, each of which includes photos, a little personal information, a Wicked filmography, and a link to the star's scene. There's also a bonus scene, bloopers, a behind the scenes featurette, and the usual Wicked extras.

The blooper reel lasts just under a minute and is presented in non-anamorphic widescreen. You get a little of Brad fooling around as the girls urge him on as well as a little fun on a couple other sets. It's a simple blooper reel, but there are a few little chuckles that make it worth spending the minute to check it out.

The behind the scenes featurette lasts about twenty minutes and features the fantastic Mark Stone behind the camera. Carmen has a few words with Mark about working in a bank in the past before they move down to shoot the scene. You get a bit of Brad working with the cast before jessica plays cheerleader and Ginger chats with Mark while in the makeup chair. Jada has a few words about trying to sing for the camera before they shoot her scene. The next day Angel talks about giving away a boy – girl scene before Brad and Eric talk about why the money's getting washed in the scene (which was quite interesting). After Brad talks about his upcoming scene with Jasmine and jessica, Jasmine suits up and jessica talks about how lucky she is to be in the movie. Brad works with Cherokee, Mia, and the boys for their scene, and Mark even captures a little fun around the set before it moves on with Brooke getting ready for her scene and shooting it with the guys. There's also a little time chatting with Tory about being a stripper at heart before she gets it on with Brad for her scene. This is a pretty darn good behind the scenes featurette. There's a nice mix of the shooting of the movie and the cast behind the scenes with some nice eye candy and personality sprinkled through all of it. My only complaint here is that it looks like it was shot in the widescreen format and then crushed to fit the full frame format. That makes what should be a great behind the scenes featurette just a little hard to watch.

Bonus Scene – jessica drake and Brad Armstrong

Brad and jessica's scene comes from the excellent Manhunters, and is sadly presented here in non-anamorphic widescreen rather than the anamorphic format of the original. Brad kisses jessica passionately on a bed before moving down to tongue and finger her pussy. jessica sucks his cock in return before laying back and letting Brad fuck her missionary style. Currently, many of Wicked's DVDs can be found online for between about $15 and $25 with a few stores offering them at the low end. At the low end this one's a steal. The movie blends sex and style incredibly well and barely ever slowed down. The technical aspects show some nice care and there's some good effort put into the extras. This is a great DVD.

Note to Wicked Pictures: It would be great to see you continue the anamorphic transfer through your behind the scenes featurettes and bonus scenes if they were originally shot in the widescreen format.
