The Short Story

Initial Expectations: Bondage movies are always a bit hit or miss for me, so although I'm not sure what to expect here there's something about this one that leaves me not expecting much.

Initial Reaction: It's surprisingly good and actually manages to have a surprising amount of chemistry.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: As usual with bondage and fetish releases, especially when they're from the mid-nineties, the technical aspects leave a lot to be desired. The audio is very quiet as well as hollow with a bit of a hiss and a few minor background noises. It's bad enough that there were times when I couldn't even make out the dialogue. The video is presented in the full frame format and leaves just as much to be desired. There isn't much grain, but the lighting is always on the dark side and at times made it hard to see the action.

Disc Complaints: Before you can get to the main menu you're subjected to a forty five second psychedelic ad for LBO's website that was more than annoying. It goes from annoying to beyond irritating because you can't skip past it or even scan through it. Not being able to skip a commercial always pisses me off, and I'm deducting a half point from the overall score because of it.

Menus: The main menu is extremely basic and just gives you a still with the choice between the movie as a whole and a chapter menu. The chapter menu is also extremely basic, and just lets you choose a scene based on a still and a chapter number for each scene.

The Feature

Mistress Olivia is always looking for a few good slaves. Chloe is showing some nice potential, but she's considering mixing things up with Johnny and Jason. One can't just pick anybody to be a slave, so she has to put them through a few tests to see if they'll work for her.

Chloe starts things out delivering a bowl of food to Johnny, who's locked in a cage until his attitude improves to the mistress's liking and makes a lewd comment towards her. When he later brings a tray to Mistress Olivia as she sits on the couch she tells him how disappointed she is and knocks the tray away. She tells him how he needs to make things up to her as Chloe cuffs his hands behind him. Johnny leans forward to worship Mistress Olivia's boots, and she soon notices how he and Chloe are playing a little. She turns around for Johnny to worship her ass as Chloe strokes him before moving on to test him and see if he's worthy to be a sex slave. Mistress Olivia has him kiss his way around Chloe's stockings and thighs without letting him lick her pussy, and then ties him to a bench as Chloe strips for him and teases him with her pussy. Johnny's cock and balls are also tied up and teased with their hands, breath, and spit. After Chloe rubs against him a bit she puts a strap-on on Mistress Olivia and moves his arms down to a lower position as Mistress Olivia straddles his chest. Mistress Olivia starts to fuck his face and has Chloe get up to rub her pussy against Johnny's cock. Finally the girls kiss while still straddling Johnny and the scene fades out.

This is a surprisingly enjoyable scene. There's no actual penetration in the scene, but there's definitely a feeling of sexuality and chemistry mixed in with all of the teasing. The play between Chloe and Johnny works well through the scene, and the action moves at a nice pace while being nicely captured. The scene does have a bit of a rough start, but it picks up nicely as it moves along. This is a good scene to start the movie and raised my expectations for the movie before it was even half done.

Mistress Olivia introduces wannabe slave Jason to Chloe before having him strip down and worship her shoes. He happily licks and sucks her heels at her command before letting her examine his flaccid cock and then laying over her knees for a spanking. Mistress Olivia also has Chloe show him a few positions to copy before she slaps their asses with a crop and decides to move him to her private dungeon. She flogs Jason's ass and back as Chloe watches from a cage before breaking out some rope that she ties around him. Mistress Olivia sucks his nipples a little before breaking out clothespins and putting them around his chest and privates. She and Chloe lick his balls briefly before she has Chloe remove the clothespins with her mouth. Afterwards Mistress Olivia sends Jason away.

This is another nicely done bondage scene. There's a definite sense of fun and enjoyment to the scene, and although it isn't all fun and games, the sense of darkness isn't nearly as heave as in many other bondage scenes I've watched. Jason definitely gives off a vibe that he's not interested in just women and plays into the entire scene with Chloe mostly sticking to the background. This is another hot bondage scene with nice chemistry.

Chloe starts out the final scene worshiping Mistress Olivia's boots before being told to crawl her way over to a cross so she can be flogged. Mistress Olivia also works on her with a crop before caning her ass, and then moves in with the clothespins after turning Chloe around. She puts the clothespins around her pussy and nipples, and after running a cord through the clothespins rips them off when Chloe tells her to. Finally the scene fades out.

This is easily the darkest scene in the movie, and the closest to a “typical” bondage scene. Chloe takes everything Olivia puts out very well, including the caning. The clothespins really seem to get a reaction out of her, but at the same time it looks like she got quite the rush out of them. I like the darker feel and how it gives the movie a little more variety, but at the same time the scene feels much shorter than the others and the abrupt ending made it feel like there was still the potential for much more. This is still an above average scene, but in addition to being the darkest scene in the movie it's also the weakest.

The Mistress Rules is a surprisingly enjoyable bondage release. Mistress Olivia mixes things up nicely as she tests prospective slaves Johnny and Jason, and Chloe does a very nice job assisting her as well as getting a little one-on-one time with her. There's a surprising amount of chemistry that comes out in the action, and unlike so many bondage movies where the person seems like they're in pain and could end things at any moment, here the cast looks like they're enjoying themselves enough that each scene could have kept going for a bit longer. Yes, there are still the typical limitations of this type of movie with a short running time and weak technical aspects, but that's sadly all but a given with fetish and bondage movies so it isn't that much of a weakness here. The only other weakness I can see for many people is what made the movie work for me, namely the chemistry. The dark feeling that normally flows through this type of movie rarely shows up here, so those looking for rougher bondage action where the cast isn't sure how much they can take might want to pass this one by. At the same time, couples who are interested in a little B&D play might find this a great release to check out. The Mistress Rules is a softer fetish and bondage release, but the chemistry and cast make it work very well.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many of LBO's DVDs can be found online for between about $10 and $20 with stores offering them all through the range. At the low end this isn't a bad price. Yes, the movie's short, there's no extras, and the technical aspects leave a lot to be desired, but unfortunately that's normal for this kind of movie. The movie itself is quite enjoyable and manages to show a bit of chemistry along with the fetish and bondage action. For this type of movie and this price you could do a lot worse than this.

Note to LBO: I know that this is one of your older releases and it's great to see you continuing to release older titles. That said, I hope you're putting a bit of care into your overall releases with things like extras and some effort towards the menus and technical aspects by now.
