The Movie

Mistress is a short adult movie that director Paul Deeb made for the now defunct Pillow Book Gallery, a company for which Deeb was also president. This review covers the standard version of Mistress only as the standard and extended version are two very different short movies and shouldn't be covered together in one review. Mistress brings back the cast of Pillow Book Gallery's Girl along with the same shooting location.

Mistress combines a sex scene with Brad and Jennifer along with snapshots of events leading up to the sex scene to the viewer. The snapshots show the tumultuous relationship between Brad and Jennifer and her domination of him prior to the sex scene. The entire scene takes place in their studio loft.

The short plays with the BDSM genre and reverses the stereotypical roles of the relationship. Jennifer is the abusive and explosive partner in Mistress and Brad is the one on the receiving end. Much of the tone of the short movie is presented through the casts' expression, music, and sound effects. Mistress is presented in the film noir style which adds to the dark nature of the movie.

Brad and Jennifer play well off of each other so the sex scene is dark at times but erotic. The two have good chemistry and Deeb does a great job of capturing them in the sex scene. Mistress is definitely a short movie that should be seen.

The Edition

The edition of the standard version of Mistress screened was a digital screener provided to this reviewer by the director Paul Deeb as such there is likely to be differences between the digital screener and any market released versions of the standard version of Mistress. Mistress was released in the nine-minute standard version and the 29-minute extended version. The two version are two very different short movies and this review was on the nine-minute standard version only.

Mistress was shot digitally and is presented in the anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1. There were no noticeable issues with the video quality in the screener at all. The colors are vibrant and beautiful and the image contains no defects.

Mistress is presented with an English Stereo audio track. There weren't any issues with the audio presentation whatsoever either. The music in the short movie is nicely balanced and sounds great and the dialog in the short is clear and easy to understand at all times.

Final Thoughts

The standard version of Paul Deeb's Mistress is very different than the extended version, not in just the run time, but also the whole feel and story told in the short movie. Mistress shows the life and relationship of two people, from just a snapshot of their life. Mistress can be dark and the short movie is highly recommended. Hopefully, the Pillow Book Gallery short movies will get released again in the near future for viewers to watch.
