Review:
Chicanery and revenge are afoot in the dark, dystopian world crafted by Harry Sparks in Maid To Kill (2022), a very good, sci-fi release from the acclaimed director and the production company bearing his name, Sparks Entertainment. Indeed, in this unfortunate future--set in 2058--an over-populated America has given up on democracy and given into tyranny. Sex is now a crime punishable by death for males and subjugation as maids for females...and only a select (and arbitrary) few get a reprieve. Needless to say, the potential for abuse and corruption is high, and unscrupulous officials with an axe to grind (like the lovely, yet harsh, Aiden Ashley) are more than willing to take advantage of their positions and the situation. It is in this foreboding context that this dark and dirty tale unfolds.
Featuring high-end production values and an effective use of CGI, Sparks' vision of a bleak tomorrow coalesces together well here. From dramatic cityscapes to robotic drones patrolling the streets and skies to high-tech control rooms and so on, the image of an advanced--yet inherently cold and austere--society is evoked. Of course, this gels perfectly with the storyline, which itself is interesting, reasonably complex, and one largely founded upon themes of retribution, cruelty, desperation, and misconduct.
The acting throughout--which is strong--serves to buttress these various elements well. With the likes of Aiden Ashley, Ana Foxxx, Lily Larimar, Kira Noir, Anna Claire Clouds, and Isiah Maxwell lending their highly-regarded dramatic skills to the mix, how could it not? The fucking is also generally steamy, with the living room threesome of Foxxx, Larimar, and Maxwell (no pop-shot) and the raunchy, all-girl threeway of Aiden, Lily, and Anna Claire being the highlights of the bunch.
In all, this multi-nominated, sci-fi depiction of a sexless, authoritarian world will certainly appeal to fans of the genre. Fans of its various participants and features will also want to take a look. It has been done well...and is well worth a watch.
