Lesbian Psychodramas 3: Saving Brea
Studio: Girlfriends Films
Stars: Brea Bennett, Heather Starlett, Tanya Tate, Brooke Lee Adams and Anita Dark
Running time: 2 hours 35 minutes (feature)
Golden age movies are usually feature films where there's a spine of a story from which the various sex scenes hang. The problem with golden age movies is that they're closer to golden showers than jewelry. The plots are inane, the humor makes most National Lampoon movies look smart, and for every "Insatiable" that was well done, you got 100 other things that were just slapped together for the minimum cost and effort possible.
Girlfriends Films likes to make modern-day features with actual story lines, and they marry the best of the golden-age production values with modern sensibilities.
Lesbian Psychodramas are stories about lesbians (surprise) playing head games with other women to bring them over to the Sappho side. And of course there's a lot of soul searching (tongues seem to most useful here) in the process. In this title there's also some mother-daughter incest, and jealousy, and all that.
But if you're like me and you don't really care about story, you can skip past it and get right to the good stuff. As usual with GFF productions, there are four main sex scenes, each 30 minutes or more.
Scene 1: Brea Bennett and Heather Starlett: two blondes, small to medium breasted.
Scene 2: Heather Starlett and Tanya Tate: two blondes again, but younger/older (Tanya plays Brea's mother in this). Tanya is enhanced busty.
Scene 3: Brea Bennett and Brooke Lee Adams: a blonde and a brunette, both small-to-medium boobed.
Scene 4: Anita Dark and Tanya Tate: two more mature blondes, both enhanced busty (put better than average work done).
Overall it's a surprisingly nice mix of performers, even though everyone's white and only one of five is not blonde.
Special Features: there is no Behinds the Scenes in this one. Just a pretty good photo gallery, and ads for other GFF titles and series.
Production values: GFF titles are well made. The video is sharp, the color is good, the camera work is professional. They don't try to be artistic or call attention to themselves--it's all about the images onscreen. Sound is clean and clear and no annoying music bed.
The DVD layout is simple and easy to use. The main movie is divided into the four main scenes, all directly acessible by the menu. Each scene has chapter stops (but no menu) approximately every three minutes, so you can easily skip around or set up A-B repeat loops if your DVD player allows. That's a nice feature to have, since it makes it easy to navigate to something you particularly like.
Final verdict: Girlfriends Films does a great job of creating a movie that can be viewed as a feature-film with plot, or as a compilation of hot sex scenes, depending on your interests. Their lesbian sex scenes are consistently among the best anywhere. The performers are attractive, the orgasms look real, and they try to make the scenes interesting and a little unusual without being ridiculous. It's obvious that David Mamet doesn't write the stories, but they're still two cuts above standard porn fare in that it assumes its audience is adult and intelligent. As always, it looks like it was made by people who want repeat sales. They've certainly got my business.
