The Movie |
Kelly the Coed Volume 20 would end up being the final volume within the long running coed series. We will never get to see Kelly graduate from State University as she is only a junior in the final volume. Jim Powers has decided to take this series out with what he was best at throughout this series, incompetent adult movie making. For this entry, Powers is shooting at an actual frat house again on a campus. While he has all sorts of issues with this, it still works better than when he tries to do set work. However, he again shot around Christmas so there are decorations visible all over despite it never being mentioned. He should have waited until later to shoot or have at least worked in a Christmas theme to the movie.
As with the other entries toward the end of this series, Powers has abandoned the very thought of any sort of plot and gone to an essentially all sex movie with slight vignette set-ups. Not that this is necessarily bad, Powers attempts at a plot were horrific and brought down most of the entries where he did try. However, the pieces of the vignettes are still poorly thought out. In one of the scenes he as a third year senior who is a residential adviser living in a frat house who is at his tenth year at the university. A scenario so bad, even for an adult movie, since residential advisers are in dorms, not frat houses, a third year senior would never qualify to be a residential adviser, and a third year senior would be in his sixth year of school, not tenth. Also the fraternity president (Johnny Thrust) doesn't live in the frat house but instead has a house?
The issues don't just lay in the poor attempt at story telling. Powers, as per his usual from what I have seen, fails on a technical level as well. There are camera flashes going off during the shooting of the movie, Frat boys screaming over powering the audio, over lit scenes. Especially the scene with Nikki Blaze and Alec Knight where skin literally shines because the lighting is so intense. The last sex scene in the film is so haphazard it is an absolute mess. Powers giving direction to the cast has even been left in the final movie.
All in all, the sex scenes aren't horrible but the rest of the movie is such a mess there is no real reason to check out this title. There are much better barely legal coed titles on the market to choose from.
The Edition |
Heatwave has done their normal job with this release. Nothing is amazing but it isn't horrible either. Kelly the Coed Volume 20 is presented in the full screen aspect ratio of 1.33:1. The transfer is decent with good color reproduction and a clear picture. There are digital artifacts present throughout the presentation.
Kelly the Coed Volume 20 is presented with an English Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo track, which isn't the greatest. The narration is at a much higher volume than the dialog in the movie making for a very uneven listening experience.
Heatwave has included a 10 minute behind the scenes piece that contains outtakes, interviews, and behind the scenes footage. There is also a photo gallery included on the release.
Final Thoughts |
Kelly the Coed Volume 20 is the last entry in Jim Powers' long running coed series. Each entry in the series kept getting progressively worse and worse managing to somehow make the one before it look more technically adept than it really was. This entry is no different. There is no real reason to view this title. Heatwave has done a mediocre job with the release as well.
