The Movie

In this entry of Jim Powers long running collegiate series, Kelly's father has received her transcripts and he is less than thrilled with her academic achievements. He shuts her off and Kelly (Allysin Chaynes) returns to the Pi Pi sorority to cope with the fact she needs to get a job. One of her Pi Pi sisters finds an ad in the paper for escorts and the sisters quickly agree that this sounds like great option for all of them to make money. They meet with Mr. Pimp (Otto Bauer) who doesn't have to do much further convincing to sign up the Pi Pi sorority girls as prostitutes.

Jim Powers seems to have abandoned the concept of shooting any footage on a college campus and using fraternity houses to shoot in. Outside of a little footage that appears to have been recycled from a past Kelly the Coed entry of Kelly pole dancing in a fraternity house at the beginning, nothing here says collegiate at all. The bulk of the movie is shot in your average California nondescript room, be it your room with a bed or room with a couch.

Powers seems to have wanted to go away from the all sex approach that the last entries in the series have been taking by actually putting in an attempt at plotted material before any sex actually happens. However, none of that footage is very good and after Powers starts up the sex scenes, the movie just runs from one scene to the next without any real plotting. Nor is there any end to the story. After the last sex scene the film just ends.

Powers has kept the narration aspect that he has used in past entries in the series, where Kelly talks about what is happening at the beginning of each scene as a transitional device but, as in past entries, this dialog amounts to little of interest. The sex scenes are all on the long side, taking up almost all the rest of the run time of the movie. Each one has your stereotypical porno music pumped over it louder than the natural audio recorded for the scene. The sex scenes are good and would have been better as stand alone scenes instead of the attempt at a story put around them.

Powers makes some ill-fated attempts at humor in the film, for instance the beginning of one of the sex scenes an overly chatty Pi Pi girl's (Heather Gables) taking gets “fast forwarded over” so the scene can start. It is an old gag that has been done far better before. Sadly, that's the feel from any of Powers attempts at humor within the movie, that it had been done before by someone else who pulled it off far better than Powers does.

The Edition

Kelly the Coed 19: Sorority Escort is presented in the full screen aspect ratio of 1.33:1. The transfer for this release is good with a nice crisp and clear picture with good colors and no issues that I could discern.

Kelly the Coed 19: Sorority Escort is presented with an English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo track. The audio track isn't the greatest. The narration is at a lower volume than the music is and and the dialog is at a lower volume than the narration is causing for very uneven audio which makes the dialog hard to hear. Other than that there are no issues with the audio.

Heatwave has included a few extras on this release. There is what is called a behind the scenes piece that runs for 68 minutes. The piece is a random hodgepodge of cast interviews with masturbation sequences, behind the scenes footage, sexual footage, and random footage. Some of this feature is without audio. The piece would have been better off broken up into the different categories and have been several smaller featurettes. There is a photo gallery on the disc. There is also a claim of Fallen Angels as enhanced DVD-ROM content but all they have included is the trailer if you put the disc in your computer.

Final Thoughts

In Kelly the Coed 19: Sorority Escort, Jim Powers has managed to remove the collegiate theme from the series opting for a more generic story attempt. Technically speaking, this is one of the better entries in the series however the plot is never developed and the movie would have been better off without it at all. Heatwave hasn't done the best job with this release with audio issues and the only real extra being a mess.
