Audio/Video: The visual quality is excellent, clear, sharp and bright. As usual, Quasarman's expert camera work and his willingness to go the extra mile pays off. In the behind the scenes you can see that it's not easy holding heavy camera equipment in awkward positions for any length of time, and Quaze is shown climbing ladders and running around the sets, which are uncluttered and aesthetically pleasing.

How could I NOT review Karma, the very movie responsible for another AVN nomination bestowed upon my favorite pornographer? The very movie that has fueled his shameless, exploitive campaigning at every whistlestop within a five mile radius of Chatsworth, CA?
Okay, if it was crap I wouldn't be reviewing it. At least, not until the awards were over with.
After watching Karma, I can honestly say that if Quasarman doesn't bring home that statue this time ... then well, maybe someone made a better movie, I don't know, I haven't seen any of the other nominees. However, that doesn't change the fact that this is one fine porn movie.
I can't tell you how much this flick has restored my faith. I've been alarmed and disillusioned lately about the path pornography seems to be on. Degradation, cliches and circus acts, not to mention the total obsession with anal sex, seems to rule. Sure, there's tons of titles that get couples classification but often they're just more of the same, with a few lines of dialogue thrown in.
As for the sex, this does away with those porn cliches, and gets back to plain hot fucking. Some may call that plain vanilla, but these days I'm starting to acquire a taste for vanilla. GOOD vanilla is as scarce as hen's teeth, and I liked the fact that all but one scene is kept to two people only. I'm not kidding! As expected, this raises the temperature and as a result, the sex is better.
The Movie:
It begins with Alexa as Eve, dressed in a fig leaf and holding a huge snake. In between scenes, she comments on the problems that plague relationships in this modern era, and some that go back to the beginning of time.
Well written and thoughtful, it chronicles the evolution of married couples, in particular Joel and his wife Karen, who are going through some rough patches and bickering a lot. She has been having an affair with another man, played by, who else, Mark Davis. Karen apparently has low self-esteem and a pattern of jumping from one man to another to validate her attractiveness. She was even married when she hooked up with Joel, although she deceived him about that as well. This behavior has nothing to do with Joel, yet he blames himself for her character flaws, and starts seeing a therapist, played by Dee. I'm not sure how much help she was, since she fails to see the obvious and has 'issues' of her own, but it's a good excuse for a way above average lesbian scene with Jade Marcela.
Joel's also getting advice from his misogynist buddy, played by Rafe, who's constantly telling Joel what a sucker he is. He seems proud of the fact that he's married to a doormat, and spends thousands of dollars paying skanky women to have sex with him, then puts it on his charge card. Rafe is not only sleazy, he's stupid.
Mark Wood and Violet Blue are another couple who think a three-way with Sunshine might invigorate their sexlife. Obviously this isn't Violet's idea, but she's another doormat who goes along with it because she's "desperate to make her man happy." Afterwards, she's shown crying and in distress. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but as we know, those images will eat at you and ultimately cause the relationship to unravel.
Surrounded by people of questionable sincerity, fortitude and morals, Joel nonetheless stands firm in his convictions.
If you're like me and don't find A2M, gaping assholes, double or triple penetrations, degrading women, vomiting, gagging or choking arousing, this is for you. If you're a couple who would enjoy watching porn occasionally but have been put off by the content, low production values, or boring uninspired sex, you're not alone. There are many people who still appreciate porn like this. They may not be as vocal or on the message boards, but I hear from them. Quasarman has proven that there's no reason good sex and a story must be mutually exclusive, and is living proof that the terms pornographer and morals can co-exist. It may have been painful, but as he knows, that can often produce the best results. With the beautiful videography, continuity, touches of humor, great sex and overall care that goes into his work, it's easy to see why this is a well deserved nominee. Thank you Quasarman.
