The Short Story

Initial Expectations: Roy Karch brings certain things to mind... naps, snoring, deep sleep, nodding off, things I normally don’t associate with Wicked. I can’t help but go into this one with very low expectations even with some great talent in the cast.

Initial Reaction: It’s surprisingly hot, romantic, and enjoyable.

Who Should Watch It : Couples and anybody wanting some light fun with their sex

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody wanting things overly soft or overly hard

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are nicely done. The audio is very clear and well balanced. The video is almost as good. It has just a hint of grain, and there’s a couple places where the lighting varies slightly. Other than that, it’s nicely done with some well done camera work that moves smoothly.

Music: The music is nicely done. It has a pretty typical couples porn feel, but is very nicely balanced with the rest of the audio. It rests in the background extremely well, and never interferes with the sex.

Menus: The main menu is okay, and adds a bit of the movie to some of the boxcover. The chapter menu is very generic and disappointing, and just lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and a scene number.

The Feature

Nicole and Voodoo are to be madly in love, and soon to be engaged. If that isn’t enough, their love appears to be contagious. As they look forward to a special night where Voodoo is planning to propose to Nicole with her fully expecting it, everybody they meet seems to find love or lust soon after they talk with either of them.

Scene 1 - Lezley Zen and Alex Knight

This is a pretty typical lesbian scene, which makes it very disappointing after how strong the opening scene was. This is easily the worst scene in the movie.

Scene 3 - Sharon Wild and Jim Beem

Scene 4 - Nikki Hunter and Reno

This is yet another scene that worked very well for me.

Scene 5 - Nicole Sheridan and Voodoo

It’s easy to see why this was chosen as one of the best couples scenes of the year by the XRCO.

Just One Look might very well be the best movie Roy Karch has ever done. It’s definitely the best thing I’ve seen him do, and kept a smile on my face throughout almost all of the movie. Unlike virtually everything else I’ve seen from Karch, the sex here is passionate and energetic, and just plain fun to watch. Normally this is the complete opposite of what I expect from Karch, who normally has a boring plot without a spark and sex that’s boring at best. Here there’s trash talking, energetic fucking, and people who seem like they want nothing more than to satisfy their partner with whatever it takes. The only scene that didn’t really work for me was the lesbian scene between Lori and Shannon. The story is definitely simple, but it has a romantic spark that should appeal to many couples. It definitely worked for me, and at times reminded me of the spark that Cary Grant had in The Bishop’s Wife as things happened to the people around him. That’s a feeling that is more than welcome in a couples movie, and something that helped the plot rise far beyond where it might have went. Just One Look is a very nice couples movie with a simple yet well done plot and passionate sex. Never in my wildest dreams would I have expected to enjoy Just One Look as much as I did.

The Extra Stuff

Trailers are included for The Collector, One Man’s Obsession, Secrets of the Velvet Ring, Road Trixxx, Shameless, and Wicked Sex Party 7. The main photo gallery lasts a little over three and a half minutes with about seven seconds per very nice looking snapshot or full screen photo. Star galleries are also included for everybody but (sadly) Sharon Wild, and last between about two and two and a half minutes. There’s also a bonus scene, a behind the scenes featurette, and the usual Wicked extras.

The behind the scenes featurette lasts ten minutes. Roy Karch starts out talking about his idea for the movie before Lezley gives a few words, poses for her stills, and shoots some of her scene. Nicole is next, who chats about her time in the industry, and with the help of Voodoo, talks about their relationship. Lori Pleasure is next, who poses for a few stills before Shannon Adams talks about most of her movies being for Roy. Sharon chats a little about herself in both English and German before posing for her stills. Nikki Hunter is next, with a little fun and her pretty girls. Finally, Voodoo gets a little clarification about who’s doing Sharon behind the scenes. It’s an okay behind the scenes featurette that’s pretty good for its length. There’s nothing too special, but there are a few smiles.

Bonus Scene - Devinn Lane, Nicole Sheridan, and Voodoo

Currently, many of Wicked’s DVDs can be found online for between about $15 and $25, with most stores offering them around the $20 mark. This one’s definitely worth the money. The sex is hot and passionate and the plot is simple, romantic, and nicely done. The technical aspects are well done and there’s even a bit of effort put into the extras. This is a very nice couples DVD.
