PREFACE:
I think it's fair to say that Joey Silvera is somewhat of an enigma in the porn world. He has never been afraid to allow his personality and preferences to shine through in both his performing and his directing efforts, and that is one of his most endearing qualities. Joey has a fascinating dichotomy working within him (much like a performer he enjoys working with, Brandon Iron) that shows him to be both one of the most friendly and conscientious performer/directors out there, and yet his sexual preferences (especially in recent years) tend toward rougher and more dominant sex. INTRODUCTION:
Service Animals #10 is the latest in a string of very consistent Joey Silvera efforts. The Service Animals series has certainly established a reputation for rougher edged sex, which is part of the reason I have found enjoyment in it. The other reason is that Joey consistently finds very attractive women, and is very good at making them look the best they can look. However, I have been duly warned about Service Animals #10 as this movie is a bit more controversial than other Joey efforts of late. Apparently, this one contains some rather rough material that, for many people, crossed the line from rough play-acting into misogyny. I also understand, though, that Ashley Blue (the performer in the roughest scene of the disc) really enjoyed herself and is quite proud of the scene she did. Now although I'm a dominant sex aficionado, I'll be the first to say that the performer's enjoyment of the scene doesn't necessarily translate into my enjoyment of it. Even if I don't like it though, armed with this knowledge, I'm anxious to see it, even if only for the purpose of studying a fascinating side of human sexuality and behavior. Regardless of my opinion of this disc, I encourage you to seek other opinions of this controversial title before making any purchase decisions. I have no idea what could have elicited this response, but I am well aware the crying in this circumstance could have meant a number of different things, only one of which includes Ashley's dissatisfaction with what she was undergoing. What made this part especially confusing to me was that at no OTHER time did I ever see anything other than exhilaration or excitement in Ashley's face. I don't think she hated this at all--and what's more, her enthusiasm at all other points really added to the scene's heat. I really hate seeing any kind of real choking in a sex scene. Mock choking and throat holding is dandy (and a turn on), real choking is dangerous (and stressful to watch). What I observed in this scene was more than just throat holding, but much less than I observed in Mason's Dirty Trixxx). There was very little of it, but any amount of real choking disturbs me--even though Ashley seemed receptive to it all. Well, the short gist of this scene is that for me, it really did the trick for the most part. Again, I don't like watching too much face slapping. And again, I really don't like real choking, which I think I saw some of here. Beyond that though, I LOVED the fucking insane verbal tirade of dirty talk that Chloe engages in during this scene. It certainly borders on verbal degradation in terms of bitch and slut calling, etc. But despite my socially responsible side, that kind of thing really turns me on, and it only starts to turn me off when I feel that the woman (or man) it's directed to is actually feeling degraded. I didn't feel that sense here, and therefore, I really loved it. Beyond that, both girls were pretty darn hot, and if we are to believe what we hear at the end (which, based on what I know of Joey Silvera, I am inclined to do) this whole scene was a fulfillment of one of Julie's fantasies. While there was a very odd interlude where Julie was visibly shaken and in an emotional state about the scene's action, I felt that she was in a safe environment, and I felt also that she knew she was in a safe environment and was expressing something much more complex than hurt feelings or dissatisfaction. I'm not sure this was a case of Joey and the other performers taking her past her limitations as much it was a combination of inexplicable emotions that arose from her fantasy's enactment. You can call me naive or blind if you wish, but if not for the choking, I would love this scene--both for the fact that it was hot sex that turned me on, and for the fact that it was a fascinating study of human emotion and interaction. Again I say, Joey is an enigma.

SCENE 7:
APRIL MAY
The Action
April declares she's going to pee on camera, and looks all too happy to do it. Joey is clearly anxious to see her do this, but before she does he asks her some choice questions. "Are you a bitch?" To which she enthusiastically replies, "Oh yeah... I'm a snotty little bitch!" Just the kind of pre-pee talk I like to hear (and I say that with shameful honesty). With that, Joey zooms in for an extremely close look at her pussy (which is sitting on some sort of rubber ball) and April does the deed. I don't know why, but I just find this extremely alluring, and under the right circumstances, downright sexy. The Barely Legal series has gotten me pretty damn aroused in the past with this kind of stuff. This time, though, it was merely on the alluring side. Afterward, April says she wants someone to come lick it up now. Joey laughs and says he doesn't think anyone will. Thankfully, we fade to black, as I wouldn't want to see that part anyway...

DVD QUALITY:
As usual with Evil Angel, the video quality is very good, and Joey is great with the camera. I really enjoy his love for the female body, and the talent he has for showing it off. I also enjoy his sex camera work, which tends to concentrate not on close-up shots of genitals, but on the important shots of the performers performing. The sound is very unfortunate on this disc however. It was very difficult to hear many of the performers, and almost impossible to hear Joey when he was behind the camera. With Joey movies especially, I always want to hear every word, as the way this enigmatic man thinks and works is revealed in every word uttered. It was a real challenge to hear the dialogue at times though, and I wished that it were better captured.

EXTRAS:
The special features of the disc include the requisite photo gallery for people that like that kind of thing. They also include a cast list by scene, which at least as a reviewer can be extraordinarily helpful at times. Most importantly though, this is the first Joey Silvera disc to include extra sex footage on the DVD. The extra footage contains some great tease footage with the beautiful Ann Marie, as well as some more footage of her scene with Lee Stone. More footage from Ashley Blue's scene with Brandon, Sledge and Joey is shown. April shows us some more of her deep throat and gagging endurance trial, which really does nothing for me, since at times they bring her to the verge of puking. Finally Chloe, Julie and Sledge engage in some more cock sucking, dirty talking, and pussy licking action, which to me is pretty enjoyable. They show a little more of the break that they took for Julie, and it gives us a bit more of an insight as to what Julie was feeling. Ultimately, the extra footage is a welcome addition to Joey's discs.

OVERALL:
At the end of the day, what I find myself left with is the ever-puzzling Joey Silvera. I stand by my position on real choking. I think it's dangerous, and for that reason I will not personally purchase this disc. On the other hand, it's a real shame that I can't because otherwise, I really liked this movie. I wish there were less of Brandon Iron's signature moves (like the nose plugging while throat fucking, and the face and tit slapping) but there was relatively little of that and what remained rocked my world. The crying segments that have upset other reviewers were not upsetting to me. They were fascinating, and I don't think I'm a cold hearted son-of-a-bitch for saying that. There's more to this world than black and white good and bad, and if Joey was true to form he fulfilled some of the girls' fantasies on this disc. That can sometimes be very intense in both good and bad ways, and I think what I was seeing here both from Ashley and from Julie were reactions to that intensity. It did not detract from my enjoyment of the disc, and if anything it allowed me a glimpse into some complex human emotions that you just don't see everyday. I'm not positive about the social responsibility of such inclusions, or that that kind of thing belongs in a video that is trying to get you off, but as an intellectual I think it's amazing and positive that Joey explores these more complex sexual topics. In a way, it's a groundbreaking technique and if conscientiously handled (as Joey does) can be enjoyable on many levels. For those who simply want to know whether there's hot sex here, my answer is an unequivocal yes. If you enjoy (or don't mind) mild choking, face and tit slapping, spitting and some damn filthy bitch talk coupled with some pretty rough sex, I would at least give this one a whirl with a rental. I love Joey Silvera's quirkiness, and there's a method to his madness--even if I have yet to figure it out.
