The Short Story

Initial Expectations: Digital Playground normally puts out a very nice product and I can't help but go into their movies with a fair amount of hope.

Initial Reaction: It's a bit darker than I would have expected, but also pretty well done.

Who Should Watch It : Anybody looking for a slightly darker feature that isn't too deep

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody wanting nastier sex or heavy romance

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are nicely done. The audio is clear and well balanced for the most part, but there are a few pieces of fairly important dialogue that are so quiet they can barely be heard and caused me to back the movie up multiple times to try to get them. The video is presented in anamorphic widescreen and looks very good. It has a very slightly washed and natural look that worked well for me. The lighting was more natural rather than being as bright as the typical adult film and fit very well with the darker tone of the movie.

Music: The movie is well done. It moves in and out of the movie with a ominous feeling, and is always well balanced with the rest of the audio.

Menus: The main menu blends some cool animation and clips with plenty of style to make a really great first impression. The chapter menu lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and a chapter number, and also lets you know the name of the girl in their first chapter from each scene.

The Feature

Although Jesse's never met her man, she knows her cyber-romance is true. Her friends aren't so sure and are a little worried about her since she's only been with one guy before. Soon after Jesse's online man Scott starts making demands of her before he arrives so that they can be together...

They keep the action moving very well, but the cream pie finish left me with slightly mixed feelings. On one hand I love that a company of Digital Playground's caliber is mixing in cream pies with the pop shots. On the other hand, the way it was handled left me doubting the cream pie's authenticity. If does look like cum that's flowing out of Madelyn at the end, but there's also two editing cuts to show Jesse between Danny pulling out and the end of the cream pie admiration. If one went from seeing Danny pull out to the cum flowing out I'd be in awe here, but due to how it's edited together my reaction was tempered quite a bit.

I was a bit afraid with the opening that this was going to be another scene where Jesse seemed more than a little uncomfortable and I wouldn't be able to get into it because of it. That was far from the case here, as Jesse easily met Ben's intensity and turned out the high energy demanding fuck that's made her a joy to watch in almost all of her scenes. This is a very good scene and easily my favorite in the movie.

Although Jesse claims to be ashamed of what she's become, she's more than eager to show Scott what she's learned and kisses him passionately when he pulls her onto his lap. This is a pretty hot final scene. The opening seemed a touch off to me with how much Jesse threw herself into the scene and at Scott after claiming to not like what she's become, but if one can look past that there's plenty to like in the sex. The chemistry is just as good as one would expect from the past performances between Jesse and Scott, and the scene moves at a good pace once again. This is a pretty good scene to close the movie.

Jesse Jane Online is a dark and fairly well done feature. The story is fairly light in substance, while coming off as a modern adult take on The Taming of the Shrew. It's much darker than many other versions of the tale I've read or watched with a very an ominous feeling that continues to creep in as Scott makes sure Jesse is worthy of him. Although the cover made me expect a bit of suspense here, the darker tones were a bit of a surprise that I'm not sure I was quite in the mood for. Sexually the movie also left me with slightly mixed feelings. There's some darn hot scenes here, with Jesse's scene with Ben easily being my favorite. I also love how Digital Playground tried to work in a cream pie with Madelyn, even if the editing did hold it back a bit by making one wonder how authentic it really was. At the same time, Jesse's scene with Mick was uncomfortable enough that it threw me out of the movie for their scene as well as most of the next. Jesse Jane Online is definitely a different adult feature, and there's enough darkness around it that I can't help but suggest that many people rent it before putting out the big bucks for it.

The Extra Stuff

The photo gallery can be viewed either manually or as a slide show lasting just over two minutes with about six seconds per very nice looking snapshot or full screen photo. Trailers are included for Pirates 2, Island Fever 4, Nurses, Cheerleaders, Jack’s Asian Adventure 2, Jack’s P.O.V. 8, Pirates, and Stoya: Sexy Hot. There's also weblinks, a behind the scenes featurette, and cumshot recaps.

The behind the scenes featurette lasts about ten and a half minutes. Brah Bones starts out showing off the first (of many) awards for Pirates 2 before Robby works with Jesse on how she's to be a little lame as she takes on Mick. There's plenty of eye candy mixed in as she takes on Mick as well as a few outtakes before Shawna has a few post-scenes word about her character and the movie. There's a little more fun with Jesse as she educates Jamal as well as a few words and a bit of eye candy with Madelyn. Jesse returns for more fun with Scott including both eye candy and laughs. This is a nice little featurette. You get plenty of eye candy, some nice personality, and even a little fun. This is a nice addition to the overall DVD.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many of Digital Playground’s releases can be found online for between about $18 and $28 with a few stores offering them for under $20. Rent this one first. The movie's pretty well done but it has a darkness that might cut a lot of the replay value for people despite having some very nice sex. The technical aspects are very nicely done and there's a touch of effort put into the extras. This is a nicely done DVD.

Note to Digital Playground: Although this one might not have worked as well for me as some of your other releases, it's great to see you trying to branch out a bit with your movies.
