Synopsis:
In the freewheeling 70s, a journalist for the Moral View magazine is given an assignment to do a piece on pornography. He has to go on assignment to a film shoot. There he runs into Jenny Rain (Star E. Knight), porno star, who tries to make him question his views.

Video/Audio:
Jenny Rain — Porno Star is presented in the full frame aspect ratio, 1.33:1, which appears to be the original aspect ratio for the film. Although the film was shot in 2001, there are slight artifacts present in one of the scenes, which surprised me. This is the first disc by New Era that I have seen with artifacts from what I can remember. It's also surprising that they would be present on a film this new. Other than that, the film was crisp and clear with a beautiful picture.

The available audio track for the film is a 2.0 English Stereo track which is your average adult film stereo track. The dialog appears to be in mono only with the music in stereo. At no time does the music volume rise above that of the dialog. No other language tracks and no subtitle options are available.

Chapters/Time Code:
There are six chapters available from the main menu for Jenny Rain — Porno Star, which allows for simplistic navigation through the disc. There is a time code for this film, so time searching is available.

Special Features:
As with all the recent New Era Special Limited Edition 2-disc sets, disc two is a massive 60 minute Behind the Scenes feature for the film, which makes up for the lack of any other related extras. Available trailers are for: Satin and Sabotage, Re-Enter Johnny Wadd, and Young and Dangerous. Main Menus Translated into Five Languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese is exactly what it says, the main menus of disc one are translated only, the film and disc two are in English only.

Review:
Jenny Rain — Porno Star is the latest release from Bob Chinn's New Era studios. This outing is a drama set in the 70s when porn was starting to get into proliferation. Unfortunately the film is not that interesting. The story moves along slowly and is in some aspects a love story, which doesn't work in your conventional adult film. The setting is unbelievable, since anyone experienced with 70s porn knows that all the females were not neatly trimmed or bald. The story here just ends up becoming fast forward fodder to allow you to exercise your fingers while watching the film.

One of the few saving graces of the film is that the cast is attractive and interacts well with each other. The other saving face is that the sex is fun to watch. Done in recent Bob Chinn style, the cast always looks like they are having fun. The sex is slightly harder than in past New Era releases that I have seen, but probably not enough to please the fans of nasty sex, but might be hard enough to turn off part of the couples audience. The scenes include vaginal, anal and oral sex with anal fingering.

Unfortunately, good sex alone doesn't make a good plot based adult film. Some of the sets are very quickly assembled as well, like the offices of The Moral View. The sets of the porn studio are well done though. So add poorly designed sets into the mix of good sex and boring plot and the end result is Jenny Rain — Porno Star.

The Money Shot:
Overall, not the best film to have come from New Era's studios. The sex is fun to watch but the plot is frankly rather boring. The sex is slightly harder than Bob Chinn's usual for New Era, which is a nice change. If you like the cast and Bob Chinn's style you might consider picking it up if you can find it on sale, other than that I would pass on this one.
