Improper Conduct Review

The gist: A tip-top example of Wicked's best work across the board: concept, writing, sex, all of it. Bonus -- this is Devinn Lane's first feature movie with b/g action.

The plot: Steven St. Croix is an imperious conductor and composer for a chamber orchestra. He plays manipulative power/sex games with Lane, the new cellist. His commitment to his art has left him impotent, so he must orchestrate the passion of his subordinates for inspiration. Yes, by the end Devinn has become the cure for impotence. Works for me.

The play-by-play: St. Croix has some make-up sex with Asia Carrera in what turns out to be a dream sequence. The scene is lit with a golden glow... maybe too much, but Asia's skin does look nice and creamy. She leaves her black thigh-highs on throughout.

Next, probably the high point of the movie. St. Croix offers Lane a ride in his limo, then picks up a hooker, Bridgette Kerkove. It's a well-written scene, well acted by all three, that is kind of my Holy Grail of feature sex: It's sex that develops the characters and establishes plot, rather than just being shoehorned in. St. Croix commands Kerkove to service Lane, and Lane to let her, setting up the dynamic of the relationship for the rest of the movie.

After Lane can stand no more and angrily hops out of the limo, St. Croix offers Kerkove a bottle of champagne -- but not a glass. The bottle goes in her pussy and then in her ass, and her eye contact with St. Croix is pretty hot. It's rare that a solo scene holds my interest, but Kerkove manages to disable my FF button.

The next day, Lane agrees to meet St. Croix at his place for an apology, but that's not exactly the way it works out. She looks beautiful in a black suit, but St. Croix wants to see her play in her bra and panties. What do you know, she still looks ravishing. There's no sex, just tease, but it's highly charged, and wonderful to watch.

St. Croix is unhappy with violinist Scott Styles, so he tells Lane to inspire him. She somewhat reluctantly goes and climbs on top of Styles, and a dose of her passion works wonders. The cowgirl ride is very nice, and it takes him to a pop on her tongue. Good news: Devinn's no dodger.

Next, St. Croix wants to see Lane with Aria back at his place. That gold light is back, which provides a lovely warmth for a strap-on scene. Lane leaves a nice black dress on, even when she's taking it from behind, bent over the grand piano. Sweet.

An on-stage orgy (in St. Croix's imagination) follows. There's a lot of action to keep track of, but it's handled well. The combinations include: Styles/Aria, Carrera/Jessica Drake, Evan Stone/Lane, Stone/Drake/Carrera, and Styles/Lane again. The highlight for me is a position I'll call hanging doggie, with Lane and Stone both clinging to a stepladder. Lane makes appropriate monkey sounds on the commentary track when this shows up. Both pops land on Lane's breasts as she looks into the camera (which I'll assume represents St. Croix's dreaming POV). The other ladies lick it up and they all share a bit as the scene ends. Woo-hoo.

Finally, Lane shows that she can teach the maestro a few things -- about music, and about getting it up and off. The last sex scene isn't really the climax, sexually speaking, but it's a fine conclusion, with Lane looking especially great in white lingerie in doggie.

Pros: Tons of Devinn Lane. She has two b/g scenes, two g/g scenes (one of them brief), and plenty of action in the orgy scene. Plus that hot tease scene. If you're a fan, you can't beat that.

A great soundtrack. I always wanted to see a sex scene set to the Bach a-minor violin concerto.

The movie does a good job of exploiting the erotic atmosphere of the classical music world. Musicians have to connect and work together in an intimate way, and that chemistry isn't all professional.

There's a real danger that the actors will look ridiculous trying to play their instruments. But I found it charming. I genuinely admired the effort put in by all of them. Devinn's legs were much too far apart in her posture with the cello, but we can chalk that up to occupational hazard and definitely cut her a break on that. Some of the musical dialogue sounds a little clunky, but it's nothing to be alarmed by.

Cons: It's a strange thing to complain about, but let's face it, there are sexual harassment issues in this workplace. The plot puts a hint of coercion into three of Devinn's sex scenes. I think it's right at the level where it's still hot, and not past it, but if you're highly sensitive to that issue, be aware.

DVD extras: The full Wicked treatment. There's a commentary with writer/director Brad Armstrong and Lane, which isn't as fun as it has been in their other movies but is still entertaining and informative. The 30-minute "All Access" behind-the-scenes segment contains plenty of good material as it follows the whole production.

There's an interview with Devinn looking sweet in a white bathrobe, an interview with Devinn and Aria, some various photo galleries and actor profiles, and a "Girls of Improper Conduct" reel, which is video of the photo shoots set to the Brandenburg Concerto #3. All of this is helpful in giving you a feeling that you're getting to know Devinn. I always appreciate that a lot.

Easter egg: Click to the left of "Girls of Improper Conduct" and you get a short clip of Aria squirting all over the stage during the orgy scene. I guess squirting is out of bounds for being included in a couples flick.

Summing up: This is one of my favorite movies. The musical setting gives it a big boost with me, but I think the overall quality would win me over anyway. It's now my go-to DVD for introducing people to porn.
