HUSTLER'S Taboo #2 is a stylized fetish series with light domination and kink.  It has its own unique look- the lighting is particularly odd, seemingly casting a pale, moonlight luster onto the girl's smooth flesh, which creates a haunting beauty that stirs the soul.  Displaying meticulous attention to detail, from extravagant backgrounds, to careful direction, to tasteful music, this film's production value is second to none.  Each scene features an artsy introduction, a full sex-audio track, with a pulsating and moody score, and ends in cumshots onto various objects which the girls then lick.

The girls were connected and responded well to each other's needs.  I liked how the camera would focus in on pleasure-faces at all the right times- I think this is very important in maintaining a level of heat throughout a scene.  Fire can stay constant or it can heighten, as a rule it should never dwindle and its these kind of "gaps" that makes so much porn out there so very wrong.  Sex should be like climbing up a hill, don't take detours back down.  This scene fairs pretty well.

Commentary:  The background music: An orchestra. God, I love stringed-instruments.  This score was particularly moody, and helps support the menacing situation of the scene, the knife Rob pulls out, the ropes, the blood, the blank, emptiness of the room that feels like a skewed dream.  Its all packaged very well.  Rob and Rachel have a good honest connection in this scene and they certainly make quite the couple with their gothic auras.  I loved how the urinals provided some good set interaction and had that extra raunchiness factor, no circus acts needed.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Maybe the real problem with these artsy pornos is that they try to do too much with it, and this ends up muddling the road, when a road should be clear and direct.  Artsy stuff will steer you off it.  Sure you will see different stuff along the way as a result of being steered off the road, but the original purpose gets lost.  I think its a bit like trying to play two music records at once- each may be brilliant independently, but played simultaneously its too difficult to harmonize the two together. If you try concentrating on one, you are too tempted to listen to the other and you become distracted.  Take this film for example, they seemed to do everything right and yet there was just something off about it.  I couldn't immerse myself in the sex and found myself sometimes admiring the beauty of the backgrounds instead, or the lighting, or the music, even the composition of the shots.  This is the most visually stunning Adult DVD I've ever seen: the girls are made up almost too beautifully and the lighting is a bit too flattering to them.  Maybe you think I'm crazy for saying that, but no, it seemed to make the movie feel like I was watching an eternal glamour shot in motion.  Beautiful, yes, but not sexy, not lustful.  Funny, I feel the sex could've been really hot (4.5 stars) if they just isolated it more from the art.  I don't think it helped either that the filmwork was so controlled, steady and planned.  Constraining the shots like this seemed to constrain the sex in a literal box and I think a more fluid and raw approach like that in gonzo could've done this movie a lot of good.  Its like comparing a square to a circle.  You want the circle, trust me. 

I have a feeling there will be some who will love this film wholeheartedly.  But myself, I had a hard time reviewing the movie, because I simply didn't know what to make of it most of the time.  This movie is definitely worth checking out though.  Its different and a refreshing change of pace from all the cookie-cutter porn out there.  Rent it first and see if you want it in you private archive.  I think its good to have variety in there anyway.
