Overall
The biggest single criticism that I'd aim at this, like Superfuckers even when released by Private, concerns the inane narrations that are dubbed on to introduce each scene - sadly these are even worse, perhaps an absurd attempt to "Americanise" the production. Banal, crass, idiotic - whatever, these seem symptomatic of the contempt in which too many porn producers hold the girls and fans alike. Do the women who we so love to watch, and who Hustler so loves to make money from, deserve to be called "sluts", "whores" and "bitches" ad nauseam? Do the viewers deserve to be treated as dribbling fools who lap this shit up? Don't answer that!

It's a shame, because Hustler XXX 12 is better than I expected. The female cast is absolutely delightful from start to finish and there are some heady moments of erotic inspiration amid the long periods of mindless ramming - which is fun to do, but less inspiring to watch. Other detracting factors include some occasionally ham-fisted editing, which appears to include footage caught accidentally as cameras are moved but then might jump awkwardly from one position to the next, coupled with a flat, observational camera style. The viewer isn't always launched into the midst of the action in quite the way that we've become used to, nor does Woodman exploit the kind of angles (like Buttman, say, or more lately Jules Jordan) that optimise the physical appeal of that splendid cast.

DVD Comments
In my view, the picture quality on this disc is really not what it should be. Colours are often too dark and the picture generally tends towards dullness, and sharpness is often lacking. Perhaps it wasn't such a good idea to take up so much disc space with all those trailers for other Hustler lines. There are quite a lot of them. That said, the menus and chapter set-ups are good, and access to sub-chapters from animated menus is once again a praiseworthy feature of a Hustler disc - get to those good bits, fast! There's also a slide show and an interview with Pierre. There are no language or subtitle options.
