I've commented on it before and I am not alone in being mystified by the
way Hustler sources this "exotic" European porn and then overdubs it all
with dumb American accents. But then I bet Larry Flynt is the kind of
guy who puts ketchup on caviar. Still, this looks good - beachcombers

yes, the settings are magnificent. However, these factors are undermined
as slapdash shooting and indifferent choice of location often fails to
make the most of the girls and the scenery. It's also disappointing that
this isn't even a feature, just another collection of vignettes which
make the lush backdrops as incidental as studio scenery.
It's almost like Pierre's saying, "here's the girl, here's the scenery,
now…let's get on with the fucking!" like that is all that matters. And
even if that is all that matters, in truth he doesn't really get that
right a lot of the time - the horrendous thought is that this is quite
bland, which is hardly a word I'd ever associate with Pierre Woodman.
As a man apparently obsessed with getting girls to perform anal sex, it's
perplexing that he bothers with the likes of Sophie and Yasmine, though
I am not really complaining - they are gorgeous and I'd rather see them
washing the dishes than watch hardcore sex with some of the so-called
talent I've been "treated" to elsewhere. So the final word is that Exxxotica,
as a box set, isn't the premium product it purports to be, isn't even
top class Woodman and is still better than the average. Just. I can imagine,
however, that it's a disappointment for Woodman aficionados and could
be for the more general porn fan too - at around $22 up to around $30
online it's good value for money, but the following needs consideration
too…
DVD Comments
The picture quality on the first disc was just about okay, even if it
suffers from that slightly dark, over-saturated look that's not uncommon
to Woodman's movies, especially since the switch to Hustler. However,
the second disc is particularly poor. It's clearly over-compressed, with
visible blocking and weak colour. Also, it's often blurred and seriously
lacking sharpness, and at times such a poor overall picture that it looks
like a copy from VHS. I'd suggest this is totally unacceptable, Hustler's
fault in production rather than source footage most likely, and especially
unacceptable when they're promoting this as a premium quality product.
From a purely technical visual standpoint, it is nothing of the sort.
The sound is okay, though the switch from dubbed dialogue to location
sound is particularly noticeable. With only the usual pictures, Woodman
interview (a standard clip), and trailers on offer as the extras, Hustler
just haven't done enough to fulfil the promise of a "deluxe box set".
It's just a cheap repackaging of the discs, nothing more - to brand it
as anything more is bordering on the dishonest.
