Initial Expectations: I haven’t been overly impressed with Homegrown’s product, but with Emma in this one I have to give it a try.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are well below average. The audio is often a little muddy and there are balance problems and background noises throughout the movie. The video isn’t much better. There’s a bit of grain and a soft look throughout the movie and plenty of shadows. There’s a bit of camera shake and the equipment starts to come into view a couple times. I know that people expect lesser quality technical aspects from amateur productions, but here it feels sloppy and more like the people at Homegrown didn’t care enough to put the effort in than it does that they didn’t have the ability to put out a product with decent quality technical aspects.

Disc Complaints: The authoring on the DVD leaves plenty to be desired. Surprisingly there’s a timestamp, but each scene has its own title which makes navigating through the DVD a little difficult.

Menus: The menus are very basic. The main menu just gives you your choices and a small clip of the movie, and just feels cheap and fairly shoddy. The chapter menu isn’t any better, and lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene.

The Feature

Housewives Unleashed 7 collects five amateur-style scenes revolving around middle aged women. Each scene has a quick lead-in to set things up and then gets on with the scene. Sometimes it’s a gonzo style scene and others it’s a vignette style scene.

Scene 1 - Veronika, Linda, and Frank

When the postman drops new neighbor Linda and Frank’s mail in her box instead, Veronika decides to stop over and introduce herself. After a quick talk about partying, Frank, a middle aged guy who’s starting to go bald, reveals that they’re swingers. It doesn’t seem so much amateurish as it does sloppy and uncaring. There are a lot of slightly obstructed shots that feel like they could be better captured if the cameraman moved a couple inches to the right. Although a pretty hot scene on its own, a little more care towards the technical side of things would have really helped it out.

Scene 2 - Samantha and Matt

Housewives Unleashed 7 is a pretty hot amateur style older woman release. The ladies are all nice looking and have a good passion for sex. Erica easily has the weakest scene in the movie due to her completely overreacting throughout the scene, while Emma takes the cake for the best scene. I like how the scenes all had a slightly different feeling to set them up as well as the variety to the sex scenes. The biggest problem with Housewives Unleashed 7 is the same problem I’ve seen with everything from Homegrown. The charm in amateur movies is the chemistry, which Housewives Unleashed 7 does have quite a bit of, and the technical aspects are easily overlooked by many because they feel like the people making the movies are doing the best they can with what they have. Here they seem like they’re trying for an amateur feel while having the ability to do things much better. This leaves the production feeling like the people making it don’t really care about their product, which held it back severely for me. Housewives Unleashed 7 is a nice collection of good looking mature women who are willing to put their years of experience to work on camera.

The Extra Stuff

In addition to web info, there’s extras, a blooper reel, and a bonus scene.

The blooper reel lasts fifteen minutes and is the same blooper reel that’s on all of Homegrown’s releases. It starts with a bit of extra footage and screwing around on the set of Eye Contact 19. It moves on with a Latino threesome, a few bloopers, and even a guy jerking himself off into his mouth. Sometimes you’re told where the sequences come from, but most times you’re not. You never really know what’s going to happen next here, and that’s not quite the complement it should be. There’s plenty of what goes wrong on a porn set, and although I’m sure that most of it is supposed to be amusing, I rarely had more than a chuckle here. I was also disappointed that none of the footage came from this feature.

Bonus Scene - Bianca Pureheart and a guy

The bonus scene comes from Cherries 39 and is Bianca’s fourth shoot ever after three weeks in the industry. I guess this is to make us rush out and pick up Cherries 39, but seeming as how this feels like a half-assed scene it only leaves me thinking a little less of Xplor again.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many of Xplor’s DVDs can be found online for between about $12 and $25 with stores everywhere in between. At the low end this one’s a decent buy. The technical aspects leave plenty to be desired, but the sex is pretty hot. There’s even a little effort put into the extras. This is a DVD that has a lot of potential but doesn’t get there due to a sloppy feeling.

Note to Xplor / Homegrown: A little more care towards the overall product would go a long way.
