The Short Story

Initial Expectations: Homegrown has rarely done much to impress me, so although I'm a fan of the MILF genre I just can't get too excited about this one.

Initial Reaction: It's amazing how clear the line is between amateur porn and amateurish porn in some movies.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects don't quite make it to the average mark. The audio is decently balanced, but there are quite a few background noises in each of the scenes. The video is presented in the full frame format for the first three scenes and non-anamorphic widescreen for the final scene, and is far from impressive in all four scenes. There's a lot of camera motion as well as lighting imbalances and overly soft presentations. The second and third scenes also have a large green bar down the left side and some black and white lines across the top of the screen. Although Homegrown advertises themselves as being in the amateur movie business, I can easily say that their movies come off feeling amateurish and uncaring instead of as an amateur movie (of which I've watched many). As usual with Homegrown, this is a sloppy looking and sounding release.

Music: None

Disc Complaints: The authoring is a bit funky, which doesn't seem to be anything too unusual with Homegrown. Rather than having the entire movie on a title that makes it easy for viewers to skip to where ever they choose in the movie (which is extremely nice if you get tired of a scene and just want to jump ahead randomly or if you're viewing the movie later and want to go to a specific point in the movie) each scene has its own title, similar to how some studios run their TV shows on DVD. This style of authoring has thankfully gone the way of the dodo with most studios, but Homegrown and Naughty America seem to be sticking with it. Both studios are distributed by Pure Play and have seemed reluctant to put any real effort into their extras (yes, Homegrown DVDs do have extras, but they also appear to be the same on all of their DVDs while Naughty America has only recently started including extras). Seeing that lack of care in the same areas for two studios being distributed by the same company I can't help but think that the problem and lack of care lies with Pure Play Media more than anything. With that little care coming from their releases maybe the customer should just be glad that they get a time stamp throughout the movie.

Menus: There's only one menu, and it blends a simple pink background with text choices for extras and clips from each scene to let you jump to specific chapters.

The Feature

The Housewives Unleashed series keeps things fairly simple. When the hubby's away, the wifey will play. Each scene starts with a minor tease or setup before moving into a sloppily captured scene.

Scene 1 Racquel Santino and Dick Chibbles

Cute brunette Racquel starts out in a little white shirt and frayed jean skirt on a ladder getting apples from her tree before coming down to chat with Dick and his camera. She quickly starts giving him a little show, and when Dick lets her know they better stop where they're going she just won't hear of it and drops down to start sucking his cock. Racquel gives him a few smiles and some great eyes as she works him over, and even mixes in a bit of titty fucking before letting him fuck her bald beaver from behind as she braces herself against the ladder. This is an okay scene. Like almost everything else I've seen from Homegrown it never feels like an amateur feel, but has a definite amateurish feel to it. Racquel is darn cute and has a nice body, and also turns out some nice energy and vocals. There's some decent chemistry between her and Dick, but also things that were so generic porno cheesy (such as her handling the phone call) that I couldn't help but laugh at the scene. This isn't a bad scene, but it never quite gets to the average mark due to the uncaring amateurish style either.

Scene 2 NaomiXXX and Gizmo

Dirty blonde NaomiXXX, who has a very British look to her as well as the accent to match, wonders where her man is before answering the door where black Gizmo has arrived to fix her dishwasher. It doesn't take long before she's gobbling his knob and giving it plenty of tongue action and stroking. The scene cuts to him fucking her missionary style on the table and sucking her tits a little before she bends over the table to let him take her from behind. They move back to missionary and chat with the cameraman a little as they play with themselves before the scene cuts to him fucking her and what appears like it's to be the aftermath of a pop in or around her pussy.

This is a sad scene. NaomiXXX isn't that good looking, but she does seem to have some okay chemistry with the guy. Sadly it looks like he can't do too much since you get to see him trying to get hard while chatting with the cameraman, and him not being able to pop on camera doesn't help anything. This might have been okay as a bonus scene, but as part of a main movie it just doesn't cut it.

Scene 3 Roxanna and Johnny

Raven tressed Roxanna starts her scene out in a leopard print spaghetti strap top and a jean skirt talking about loving cum but not getting enough of it with a husband who doesn't give her nearly enough sex. This scene hovers around the high end of the average mark. Roxanna is darn hot (despite her obvious bolt-ons) and plays to the camera as well as her partner very well. The camera captures the action pretty well, but the action is also very limited. Although the scene doesn't quite last a half hour, it takes over twenty minutes to get to the fucking and over half of the scene is the blowjob. It went on so long that I actually expected it to be a half hour blowjob scene and that didn't do anything for me. This had the potential to be a great scene, but due to the editing and pace it ended up being pretty average instead.

Scene 4 Lindy Russell and Guy DiSilva

Older looking brunette Lindy is told that they have some black dick for her before they instead give her Portuguese Guy. She goes right to work sucking his cock while wearing a little pink lingerie before laying back and letting him play with her big natural tits. This is an average at best scene. The entire thing looks like it's shot in the back of a warehouse somewhere with a budget less than what it takes to buy a box of generic Twinkies. The camera work feels amateurish once again and just plain seemed like whoever was holding it didn't have a clue what they were doing. The chemistry is okay, and there was absolutely nothing about the scene that gave me a feeling that I should care about it. This scene didn't have a chance of breaking past the average mark.

Housewives Unleashed 27 is a very forgettable release. I know that Homegrown's movies are supposed to be amateur movies, but where amateur movies feel like the person doesn't quite have the skills to do all the camera work just right, Homegrown's stuff always feels like they just don't give a shit about it. That changes a little here as one of the people behind the camera actually did seem to not know what the heck they were doing, but the other three scenes all felt like nobody cared much. That's too bad, as both Roxanna and Racquel Santino showed a lot of potential in their scenes, and if they wind up in front of the camera of somebody who's competent I know I'd like to give them another chance. Beyond the who gives a shit vibe that runs through much of the movie behind the camera, there's also a vibe that's reminiscent of the porn of the early nineties and late eighties where it seemed to be begging to be made fun of. It even came up in Racquel's scene with her husband calling. Housewives Unleashed 27 had a couple good girls in it, but had so much working against it that it didn't have a chance of making it past the average mark.

The Extra Stuff

The extras are next to worthless. Trailers are included for several other Homegrown releases, and often feature fairly well known porn stars. Sadly, the title of each scene is put right across the middle of the screen through every trailer and after every movie you get a commercial for how to order them and Homegrown's other websites. The trailers are also all included on one chapter rather than each trailer having their own chapter so the viewer can easily skip trailers that doesn't interest them. The bonus scene is Claudine's scene from Homegrown Video 648 which has been hacked down to under five minutes and can also be found on most every other recent Homegrown release. There's also weblinks and a blooper reel.

The blooper reel lasts about twelve and a half minutes and is the same blooper reel that you can find on almost any other Homegrown release. Unlike most blooper reels which actually contain bloopers from the movie on the DVD, this is a completely generic blooper reel that spans the entire range of Homegrown's releases. It spans so many movies that it's even organized into areas such as bodily functions. There's a few chuckles here, but it's not nearly as good as it might have been if it featured clips from this movie.

Currently, many Homegrown DVDs can be found online for between about $13 and $25 with a few stores offering them near the low end. Aim low or rent this one first. The scenes are amateurish, but almost never feel like actual amateur movies. The sex hovers around the average level, and even when it has the potential to break out it's held back by the amateurish care behind the camera that makes it seem like nobody really cares what they're doing as long as they get paid. There are some extras, but they're the same extras you find on almost every other recent Homegrown DVD. This one should be easy to pass by.

Note to Homegrown: If you're going to put extras on your DVDs, take the time to do it right. Crap doesn't get better when it's recycled over and over again.
