The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are nicely done. The audio is clear and nicely balanced. I don’t think I heard a single background noise in the feature, but there were a couple spots which seemed a bit dead. The video is also nicely done. It only has a hint of grain and uses lighting very well. Unfortunately, the movie was shot in high definition widescreen, but rather than releasing the movie in anamorphic widescreen it was released in the bastard relative format of non-anamorphic widescreen.

Music: Lance Ericksson provides the music here rather than Saint, who’s created most of the music for the movies I’ve seen from Nicholas Steele. The balance varies slightly, but for the most part it’s very well balanced with the rest of the audio. It has a sexy feel and makes the scenes friendly while enhancing them slightly.

Disc Complaints: This is one of the most basically authored DVDs I’ve seen from Adam & Eve. There’s no time stamp, which I always like to see, and even the chapters are cut back a little. I can handle not having a time stamp if there’s a ton of chapter breaks, but there’s only two breaks for each scene, and that includes the non-sex portions. If you choose a feature, you better like it because you can’t just cut to the end of it with the fast forward button like normal. Make sure you know where the menu button on your remote is with this DVD.

Menus: The menus are pretty decent. The main menu has a little animation to help give the DVD a good first impression. The chapter menu is pretty generic and lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and a scene number.

The Feature

Let’s see, Cheyne and Avy are detectives on the trail of stolen car parts. Joey and Steven are street racers. Manuel works for Joey, while Sharon works for Steven. Somehow it’s all going to come together, and you know it’s going to include sex.

Scene 1 - Sharon Wild and Steve Holmes

After Steve gets her the part she needs, Sharon gets it on with him in the junkyard. Sharon puts her great oral skills to work on Steve right away before hopping up on a car so he can repay her with his tongue and fingers. This is a pretty good scene that ended up lacking a little. Everybody really seems to be into their partner, and it’s a pretty looking scene. I was a little disappointed that the scene only lasted two positions and that the girls never really got it on with each other. For what it is, this is about as good as you can hope for.

Scene 3 - Melanie Jagger and Steven St. Croix

When Melanie stops by to wish Steven a happy birthday, even though it’s a few months away, he isn’t about to turn her away from a birthday boink. He gets down on his knees to eat her before letting her work his crooked cock as far back into her mouth as he can get it. While snooping around the scrap yard and snapping a few photos, Cheyne and Avy talk about urges and controlling them. Scene 5 - Sharon Wild and Cheyne Colins

After being offered protection, Sharon decides to see just how strong Cheyne is. Cheyne starts out the exchange of oral favors before letting Sharon return the favor. They move on to go at it missionary style before Sharon turns around and lets Cheyne spear her ass for the first time on camera. Finally, Cheyne stuccos Sharon’s ass with his nutty goodness.

This is a pretty good scene. Cheyne and Sharon seem to be into each other pretty well, and Sharon takes the anal extremely well for her first time. As usual I was disappointed by the lack of positions, but other than that this was a nicely done scene.

Scene 6 - Avy Scott and Steven St. Croix

This is another decent scene. Avy and Steven have decent chemistry and put some nice energy into things. The only problem with the scene is that it’s a huge case of deja vu. It’s the exact same thing as Avy’s scene with Cheyne, only they’ve changed the location and the guy. I love watching Avy Scott in action, but this one ended up a bit of a disappointment for that reason.

Hot Rods is a pretty stereotypical couples movie. The sex is okay, but does have some nice chemistry. Unfortunately, there’s only two position in any scene (even if it’s a group scene with two couples going at it) and a total of three positions in the entire movie. The camera work is very nice for the sex and captures it beautifully, but with how limited the positions are it often got a little boring. The non-sex portions are just as problematic. The ideas of street racing and theft rings leaves plenty to work with, but it’s basically all thrown away. Although there’s potential to build the movie around either subject by itself, and an even better movie together, I think the entire non-sex portion of the movie could be written out on a matchbook with space left over. It’s so transparent that the plot portions became completely laughable and actually brought down the entire movie. Heck, I think the movie could have actually been improved by throwing away the plot and going with more of a vignette style for the movie as what’s here seems like it might have been put together with the help of a food processor. Hot Rods has all the material going for it to make a really great adult movie, but sadly throws most of it away.

The Extra Stuff

Trailers are included for The Vault, Sweet Sounds, and Behind the Mask. The cast listing shows you a clip of each star in the movie along with their name. The slide show contains about thirty nice looking snapshots and full screen photos. You can either advance through them manually or they’ll advance automatically roughly every ten seconds. There’s also weblinks, two bonus scenes, and a behind the scenes featurette.

The behind the scenes featurette lasts almost twenty six minutes. You get a few short interviews with each of the stars, as well as seeing them getting ready and screwing around when they’re not shooting the scene. You even get to see some of the scenes being shot. It’s okay, but most of the actual audio has been taken out and replaced with music, which really held back the featurette for me. Most people I know who like the behind the scenes featurettes like them because they get to see the stars as people, and when you can’t hear them it’s hard to do that.

Bonus Scene 1 - Julie Meadows and Dale DaBone

Dale and Julie get it on in a scene from Devoured in the first bonus scene. Julie starts things out masturbating for Dale in the middle of the pool table as he shoots a ball towards her. I really like Julie and she gives her typical extremely vocal performance. The scene has some problems with momentum as the scene is broken apart by other scenes with the balls being knocked around. Currently, most of Adam & Eve’s Premium Collection DVDs can be found online for between $13 and $22, with many stores offering them for around $18. Rent this one first. Nicholas Steele has a different feel and odds are it’s either going to work for you big time and have plenty of replay value or it’s going to put you to sleep. I thought the sex was good, although pretty limited. The technical aspects are nicely done, as are the extras.

Note to Adam & Eve: A little polish could have gone a long way with the DVD authoring here. Also, if you can’t give something the attention it needs to be done right, such as a plot, please find another way to do it.
