The Short Story

Initial Expectations: Homegrown's line has done very little to impress me. I just can't get my hopes up here for any reason.

Initial Reaction: The amateur feeling isn't always that strong, but it's easily the best release I've watched from Homegrown.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: As usual with Homegrown Video, the technical aspects can't make it to the average mark. The audio is pretty good through most of the scenes, but there are some very noticeable background noises with the third scene being downright horrible with the background hissing. The video is presented in the full frame format and also leaves plenty to be desired. Some of the scenes are pretty clear, but camera motion is far from uncommon and there's a lot of pixelation in the first scene.

Music: None

Disc Complaints: The authoring is a bit funky, which doesn't seem to be anything too unusual with Homegrown. Rather than having the entire movie on a title that makes it easy for viewers to skip to where ever they choose in the movie (which is extremely nice if you get tired of a scene and just want to jump ahead randomly or if you're viewing the movie later and want to go to a specific point in the movie) each scene has its own title, similar to how some studios run their TV shows on DVD. This style of authoring has thankfully gone the way of the dodo with most studios, but Homegrown and Naughty America seem to be sticking with it. Both studios are distributed by Pure Play and like Hundies (also distributed by Pure Play) there's only recently been an effort put into their extras (although Homegrown DVDs also to use the same extras on all of their DVDs). Seeing that lack of care in the same areas for several studios being distributed by the same company I can't help but think that the problem and lack of care lies with Pure Play Media more than anything. With that little care coming from their releases maybe the customer should just be glad that they get a time stamp throughout the movie.

Menus: There's only one menu, and it blends a simple background with text choices for extras and clips from each scene to let you jump to specific chapters. If you choose a scene, you're oddly taken shortly past the start of each scene rather than beginning at the start of the scene.

The Feature

It's well known that women reach their sexual prime a few years after men, and a lot of sex often doesn't go away at a certain age. Here, Homegrown brings together four ladies over forty who still love the cock.

Scene 1 – Sue and Tim

Sue, a large brunette with short hair and bad teeth, and her man Tim, who looks a bit greasy as he sits back in a wifebeater, chat with the cameraman about how they met while showing as little enthusiasm as possible. They unhappily start breaking out each other's goodies to play with, and she strokes his cock while he sucks and plays with her big fat titties. Scene 2 – Bianca and John

This is the most surprising Homegrown scene I've watched in a very long time because it actually looks like it's an amateur scene. The camera looks like it's left on a tripod throughout the scene, and it has a completely cheesy feel along with people who look way more average than you want to see in two people fucking. There's even some good chemistry to help it out. The tripod feeling did hold the scene back a bit due to the couple looking like they just left it there the entire scene without trying to give it any real attention, but this is the most realistic and homemade feeling scene I've ever seen from Homegrown.

Scene 3 – Annabelle Flowers and Dr. J

Brunette Annabelle starts out the penultimate scene in a red and white dress enjoying a smoke and wondering where the dinner party is before Dr. J lights up her fag. She answers some unheard questions about sex and kisses around his stomach while blowing a little smoke before having him strip down so she can suck his cock. Annabelle lets him suck her tits and lick her pussy before sucking his cock a little more. She keeps working Dr. J over orally, and finally takes a nice load over her face.

This is a pretty good scene. It's far from having an amateur feeling, but Annabelle plays into the scene very nicely with plenty of vocals to guide it. She also isn't bad looking and puts some nice enthusiasm into the scene looking like she's having a very good time with her role playing. Although an all oral scene, I was a little torn between liking how the oral went both ways and wanting Annabelle to take things the next step with some good fucking. This is a hot and fun scene that was a nice change from what I normally expect from Homegrown.

Scene 4 – Janay

Dirty blonde Janay starts out the final scene pulling aside a shower curtain as she enjoys her bath. This is a pretty good scene. At nearly a half hour long it gets a bit long for what it is, but Janay is easy on the eyes and looks like she's enjoying herself throughout the movie. She plays a little heavily to the camera and never seems too much like an amateur, but the overall sense of enjoyment helps the scene work past that setback that's all too familiar in Homegrown's releases. This is a nice final scene.

Horny Over 40 43 is a surprisingly decent release. Most of what I've seen from Homegrown has never really had an amateur feeling to it, and instead has just come off as crap put out by people who didn't really care about their product. This release, however, actually feels like it's an amateur movie and has a nice range of looks to the people (which yes, can be scary at times) along with a very nice range of sex acts. Sue and Tim's opening scene was easily the weakest due to their looks and his wood problems, and the cameraman didn't help anything with his opening chat with them either. Janay and Annabelle's scenes are a little weak on the amateur feeling, but also have a great sense of fun that helps the scenes to work very well and come across as the two best in the movie. Homegrown has been coasting on their reputation for a long time now, but with Horny Over 40 43 it looks like they might be thinking about trying to work their way back into the respectable amateur market. This is a pretty good release that gives me a moment of hope for Homegrown and their movies.

The Extra Stuff

The extras here appear to be the same extras that are on all other Homegrown DVDs. Roughly eighteen minutes of trailers are included for several other homegrown releases, and often feature fairly well known porn stars. Sadly, the title of each scene is put right across the middle of the screen through every trailer and after every movie you get a commercial for how to order them and Homegrown's other websites. The trailers are also all included on one chapter rather than each trailer having their own chapter so the viewer can easily skip trailers that doesn't interest them. There's also weblinks, a blooper reel, and a so-called bonus scene.

A so-called bonus scene is included from Homegrown 648 and features brunette Claudine who looks very familiar. I always like to see bonus scenes as it gives me a good feeling for how the rest of the movie or series might be. Sadly, this one did nothing for me. Rather than being a full scene, instead it looks to be a fifteen or twenty minute scene (guessing from the lengths of the scenes on this release) that's been hacked down to under five minutes. This isn't a bonus scene, this is a trailer focused on one scene and it brought down the extras for me since it seemed like there would have easily been room on the DVD for the full scene.

The blooper reel lasts about twelve and a half minutes. Unlike most blooper reels which actually contain bloopers from the movie on the DVD, this is a completely generic blooper reel that spans the entire range of Homegrown's releases. It spans so many movies that it's even organized into areas such as bodily functions. There's a few chuckles here, but it's not nearly as good as it might have been if it featured clips from this movie.

Currently, many Homegrown DVDs can be found online for between about $13 and $25 with a few stores offering them near the low end. If you want more of an amateur feel with older women, this one's worth the lower end. There's some hot sex here and nice variety with technical aspects that hover around the average mark. The extras are weak as ever due to Homegrown reusing all of them from release to release, and are easily the biggest thing holding this release back. This is a surprisingly hot movie on a DVD that unsurprisingly looks like it needs more effort.

Note to Homegrown: This little effort towards your extras is almost like a slap in the face to your consumers.
