Hard Edge Review

After the disappointment of "Justine" and "Adriana", Andrew Blake is back on form with "Hard Edge", a return to the hardcore erotica style of movies like "Wet" and "High Heels". There is still a good deal of the fetishistic imagery that he's known for, and which overwhelmed his last two movies in particular, but this time we get more of what we paid for - beautiful girls with little or no clothes on, playing with themselves or each other and occasionally getting fucked silly.

Those beautiful girls are the strongest lineup in a Blake movie since his Anita Blonde period. Shining out are blonde Kelle Marie and frequent-dyer Justine, but brunettes Nike, Adriana and Jessie sizzle. Faith Adams enjoys some good old-fashioned rumpy-pumpy with Julian, when for the first time in a number of pictures, there is some male involvement in the main feature. In fact Julian enjoys two scenes in the movie that involve parts of his anatomy getting very happy.

Fans of women who smoke will be delirious watching this movie - personally I was left cold, and there is one non-explicit joke bordering on the icky called "dirty martini" where maid Kelle Marie serves her mistress Justine a yellow-colored martini as payback. There is a lot of playing with over-ripe, sculpted bananas and glass dildoes, but mostly the order of the day involves fingers. Surprisingly for Blake there is a good deal of lubrication and consequently the scenes are less clinical than in the past. Bondage is at a minimum, but makeup in unusual places makes for an interesting kink.

There are twenty-five scenes in the main feature, and a further eight on the flip side of the disc where the extras reside including an excellent "making of" featurette filmed and directed by Celeste. This is fascinating in that all the women in the film are interviewed, and we get to see the Master at work. The eight vignettes on the flip side are largely solo scenes of the stars indulging in a little self-gratification. With the exception of the making of featurette, everything was shot on film (a great improvement after the disappointing digital video results of the last release). The release is anamorphic widescreen with Dolby 5.1 sound (as if that mattered).

All in all a very enjoyable package for those who like their porn with a little style.
