The First Word: With a title like Grrl Power!, you'd probably expect more of a female perspective on porn, but since it's coming from Hustler, you should know better.  Think of it as Barely Legal but without the timid façade: these girls use their youth and bodies to get what they want.

What's It About?: Each of the 5 scenes begins with a few seconds of the teen girl jumping around, flashing the camera, and doing kung fu-style kicks to the Grrl Power "Hey, Hey, Hey" theme music.   From there, she reads a "Dear Grrl Power" letter from girl who has some sort of problem.  Responding in the form of a true advice columnist, she tells the writer how she can exercise her Grrl Power to make men do what she wants.  She then demonstrates exactly how to go about this empowerment in the sex part of the scene.  Here's the "plot" for each girl:

Envy Mi - "Sweaty in Seattle" complains that she hates gym class because she gets all sweaty after exercising for an hour.  Envy tells her that most gym teachers are perverts, so some Grrl Power will do the trick.  Cut to a locker room and gym teacher Dillon Day, where Envy limps in and asks him if he'll take a look at her ankle.  As he checks her out, she tells him that her daddy used to kiss where it hurt to make it feel better.  So Dillon begins to kiss and suck her foot.  Envy then starts using her foot to massage her crotch.  Once he agrees to let her out of gym for the year, she undresses and uses a spray bottle to wet her thin Asian body down. For those with a foot fetish, you'll be happy to know that there's some footjob action to start things off.  After a nice blowjob, this 18-year old does the locker room workout with Coach Day for a rather long time (about 12 minutes) before he coats her face and mouth.

Taylor Sands - Taylor advises "Broke in Boston" to use Grrl Power on the fathers she babysits for in order to get some extra cash.  Our dad is played by Kyle Stone, who seems to be in that role a lot lately.  She convinces Mr. Stone to pay for a new dress that she has on layaway with her braless tits.  She then rewards him with those irresistibly squeezable, natural breasts as well as her small furry box, which he gets to taste before he gives it a pounding.  The scene is an aural treat -- you can hear the wet sound of their fucking, their honest moaning, and Taylor's whispered urgings.  Like in the first scene, there's an extended section of screwing, but it has a better ending as Taylor climbs off Kyle's glistening cock and proceeds to suck and jack him off.

Eva Moore - Old enough for porn, but not enough to drink, that's curly brunette Eva Moore's dilemma, one that she shares with "Locked out in Los Angeles."  To get by those annoying bouncers, all a grrl has to do is blow the bouncer, right?  Trevor plays our anal-retentive bouncer, who takes our bubby dancing queen into a back room and has her lock the door.  But in addition to the customary blowjob, he gets a tit-fuck, eats her box, screws her in several of the most creative positions I've seen in porn, fucks her feet (!), bangs her ass, and gives her a reluctant facial.

Kitty Marie - "Stupid in San Diego" wagered her trust fund against her school's football team.  Kitty tells her to invite over the quarterback and keep him occupied until after the big game.  So the scene begins with bikini-clad Kitty in the pool with our "quarterback," Pat Myne.   She's a very pale skinned blonde with a voice and giggle that makes her sound all of 13 years old (but don't worry, because according to the pop-up graphic, she turned 18 on 5/25/2000).  After some frolicking in the pool, she uses her shaved and pierced pussy to keep him occupied. He still wants to get to the game, so she has to lay out the full treatment:  blowjob and a fuck at the edge of the pool deck.  Unfortunately, the money shot is obscured due to some harsh shadows (reflector, anyone?).

Aurora Snow - Aurora, one of the most popular newcomers in recent years, suggests to "Dumb in Durham" to get a geek to cheat for her on her exam to avoid having to go to summer school.  Heck, if a pretty brunette like Aurora asked me to slip her some answers in exchange for slipping in something else, I'd do it!  So does Chris Cannon, playing the stereotypical nerd.  After Aurora scores an A+ on her geometry test, he gets his reward.  I can see why many people are fans of Aurora -- she's got a very cute face, long brown hair, and wonderful natural breasts.  And unlike veteran porn starlets, her moaning and expressions seem to be real and unfaked.  Aurora might have gotten an A+ on her test, but so does this amazing ending to a fine video.  It's so incredibly erotic to see and hear the epitome of the girl-next-door having sex on camera.  It's a pity that the facial is so underwhelming or else this would have been a perfect scene.

What I liked:  You can see the sweat:  That's a sure sign that the performers are working hard (or that the set lighting is hot, I suppose).  At any rate, a couple of the scenes (namely Taylor/Kyle and Aurora/Chris) have extremely intense sex that leaves them (and us) exhausted.  From sweaty skin to either genuine or very well faked groans and moans to some very hard and fast fucking, it seems that they are genuinely turned on.  I can't tell you what a night and day difference these scenes are to 99% of all porn out there.  I mean, I'm way beyond the stage of getting excited by the mere depictions of genitals in intimate contact.  It's a case of how you do it, not that you're just doing it.  So videos like this that have the chemistry (and the hot chicks) are welcome and worshipped.

Pop-Up Videos, eat your (fill in the bubble) out!: Drawing from the concept of the pop-up factoid that a certain music television channel pioneered, Grrl Power! inserts on-screen advice, products, and data (such as the birthdates of the girls).  Some of it is funny, some completely useless, but it's kind of cute.  Granted, after a few replays it ceases to be cute and is more annoying, but then again, you'll replay the disc because of the sex, not the cute pop-ups.  I guess my point is that Kick Ass tried to do something different and fun to try to be something other than Yet Another Just Finally Barely Eighteen series.  And Grrl Power! is a lot different than the established series, including Hustler's Barely Legal. 

What I didn't like: Don't pet that kitty: While the crop of girls in this volume are quite delectable, Kitty Marie stood out like a sore thumb.  Not only does she sound and act like a 13-year old trapped in a 18-year old's body, but her sexual technique leaves a lot to be desired.  It looks like her complete knowledge of giving head is bobbing up and down like in a bad teen sex comedy.  Add zits and miscellaneous piercings and tattoos and I could do without.   I guess it doesn't help that Pat Myne is paired with her, dragging down the worth the whole scene with his bad acting and goofy body language.

DVD Extras: In addition to a standard-size photo gallery and a handful of preview trailers, the major extra on this disc is a relatively short blooper reel showing mostly flubbing of dialogue, although there are some tibits of behind the scenes direction.  Nothing outstanding but it's better than nothing.  Another plus is the chapter selection menu, which is organized by girl and then further organized by sub-scene (such as the intro, foreplay, sex, and cumshot).  As a result, the chapter breaks are convenient, well-spaced, and bring you right into the action.

A/V Quality: Excellent on both accounts with no major complaints.  Not outstanding but fully meets my expectations for this type of video -- Hustler knows how to master their discs.

The Last Word: I like this DVD more and more each time I watch it.  It's like they took the winning elements of the Barely Legal series and mixed it with some attitude.  There are some really excellent scenes that I would call some of the best ones of 2000 (Envy/Kyle and Aurora/Chris).  It's so rare that a single DVD contains more than one outstanding scene, so I recommend this one without hesitation.
