Good Things Review

Well, I was really impressed with Pretty Girl, so I checked out one of David Stanley's older titles, and, well... what I got was not what I expected.

The Movie: I should be giving this movie a lower grade than a four. The sex isn't all that great, and is actually kind of blah, but... there is just something about this movie.

The plot goes as this: Ava Vincent is the main character (although Sunrise is on the cover). She starts off the movie as a complete bitch. What isn't on the back of the box is this... the movie is David Stanley's response to 9/11. When 9/11 attacks happen she realises that she has alienated everyone around her, and she wants to make things right. Things end up spining out of control.

The plot of this movie is simple, but for some reason it sticks with you after you watch it. Mainly it's because of the acting. Sharon Kane and Ava Vincent both have none sex roles, and yet... they are the most important part of the movie. Their characters are so suprisingly well developed, and the scenes between the two ring so true, that I didn't care that the plot was simple, and I didn't care that the sex was bland. I was just drawn in.

The sex in the movie could be taken out, and you would have a VERY strong short film. Actually, the sex feels like an after thought. None of it really has much to do with the emotional pull of the story, with the exception of one sex scene, and is really there just to justify the Vivid label on the cover. Honestly, the only reason to watch this movie sex wise is to see two Sunrise scenes before she got breast implants. Other than that... nothing.

I can't stress how much this movie is not about the sex, but about how one woman sees something so horrible in the world that she is forced to look inside herself, and she sees that she is adding to the pain. It's her quest to make things right, and the invevitable and painful conclusion that makes the movie so damn memorable.

Tech Stuff: The video is pretty clear, nothing special, but the audio is a little scratchy. Not bad, but not Vivid's best.

Extras: The usual bonus material. Behind the Scenes stuff, extra scenes, photo galleries, trailers, and the like.

OverAll: As a porno this movie fails miserably, but as a movie it succeds in creating characters placed in a horrific situation who do grow, even if their growth is cut short by even more tragedy. This is one of the more depressing adult films I have ever seen, and yet... somehow one of the more memorable. I would say check it out just to see how good David Stanley can be, and how depressing it is that his newer stuff has become so soulless. I hope he finds what made him so great again, because I would love to see another movie like Good Things or Pretty Girl.
